I know this is nit picking a bit, but surely the terraforming effect should be reduced the better the planet? A class 10 planet should be able to be terraformed to a class 16 (earth like) planet. A class 22 (eden like) planet should not be able to be improved as mouch. Maybe only allow terraforming of sub class 16 planets, and have terraformimg bring them to class 16? Then add another planet improvement tech (perhaps mineral replenishment, weather control, ocean habit

Cari, would it be possible to instead of de-orbiting a ship, when you double click it on the solar system window, to make it appear over the star icon and force you to then move it. If for some reason you don't move it, it reverts to orbit at the end of the turn. I would prefer this (though it does involve an extra step) as it works for all ships, does not give extra movement, and gives maximum control. Paul.
I've had the wormhole anomoly freeze as well. Only once, but I was able to alt tab out and close galciv. What operating system is running on your old PC? Paul.
98 and 2000 here. Paul.
Jack, I hate to say it, but your PC seems to suck :) . Playing MOO2 is still one of my favourite pasttimes. Having a PC that can't play this wonderful game is a crime! Surely your hardware drivers will emulate older hardware? Paul.
Jack, I have tried your saved game and can play it again and agin without pink screens of death. I have however had some crashes. These are usually for a variety of reasons and never the same one. For example, I had it crash when I changed the autoturn settings. I changed the settings (turned it off), returned to the game and it crashed on returning? I didn't actually do anything! I have however successfully played another few hundred turns a few times now, so the problem does not seem to
I would add another option. (e) grant protection status. You don't own the planet but any other race sees the planet as yours (or allied to you) and colonising it or attacking it is an act of war against you. This raises another point, Claiming the right to planets. Can planets in your 'sphere of influence' be claimed for your empire? Will this be a diplomatic option (any planets in a sector owned by a race belong to that race)? Paul.
Tax rate do currently affect moral. Increase tax and moral drops. The problem is that the higher moral social projects are not yet balanced and so later in the game you can set tax at 100% with no penalties. I would hope that tax rates also affect the election system and approval ratings seperately from moral. Then you may need to keep tax rates lower to keep approval high. Paul.
Jack, I player the entire research tree out 4 times last night (reduced the research costs) and never once got the pink screen of death. If you send me your saved game I can try that? AS for frustration, I'd go with the fifth down on the left. Paul.
Jack, I also test with 32 bit colour and have reached advanced stages of the research. As you already know there seem to be some problems with the tech tree but I have never had this screen of death problem yet. I use a voodoo 3 graphics card. Will test this to exhaustion tonight. Paul.
The done key should not really be on the keyboard with the other standard keys. Far too easy to strike it by mistake. I would suggest a function key as these are never accidently pressed. Alternatively the 'end' key, for end turn would make lots of sense. Paul.
I assume people can also be demoted? Would this be a last ditch safeguard feature for those who abuse priviledge or would it occur automatically due to reduced involvement? Paul.
I had this problem all weekend. Sent Pat an email and here is his reply. Paul, I have been making some changes which may have caused this problem. Please try logging off. Close your browser (to clear any virtual cookies). Then reopen your browser and relogon. Hopefully after relogging on you should be able to post. Pat
I was playing about with choosing the races to play last night and noticed that the Drengin race behaves differently to the others. If it is already selected you cannot click on it easily to deselect or just to look at. Paul.
Not sure Fred. The current way you pay for the build POTENTIAL not the item you want to build. It only gets built the following turn using the potential you paid for. Fairly standard implementation. Perhaps some method of actually paying for the item, which then zeros the build potential and produces the item. This would allow for delayed items (you've paid for it but that ship will still take 3 turns to arrive). Alternatively fixing the build queue after you buy somet
How about adding research compleion to the project completion window? The research window only pops up when you click on it in the project completion window? If you also add an icon to the status window (bottom right), this should work. Paul.
cool. Any plans to give the player a choice of direction at a later build? paul.
A suicide mission of ram an enemy planet and attempt to damage it / destroy an improvement could be cool! Maybe a bit unrealistic though, small ship versus huge planet. Paul.
very nice! It's like ability scores in RPG's! Makes your civilisation into a sort of charater and hopefully every game will be fairly different. Paul.
Fred, your first bug, the paying for a colony ship and not receiving it, does not sound like a bug. It's identical to hoe Master of Orion 2 works. You pay for the build but have to leave the build queue on the ship desired so that NEXT turn it's built. If you change the queue then it builds something else, or nothing if you select nothing. Paul.
Happy birthday Cari, Glad to hear you had a weekend off. Didn't eat too many Easter eggs I hope! I've been busy testing all weekend. Will start posting problems this evening. Paul.
The risk basis sounds ok, but I think you shouldn't know the risk. It's part of the fun! I do think that different anomalies should have different icons symbolising the type of anomaly, with each type having a range of possible effects. For example wormhole :- wormhole in space. May lead to another location once and tehn collaspe, may form a permanent link, may contain trapped resources, may contain trapped ship (friendly or hostile), may collaspe and destroy your ship. wreck :
understanding what they are saying and understanding them well enough for diplomatic purposes can be very different. It's understanding what makes other aliens tick which is important for alliances, and other high level diplomancy. To do that you need to study them not just translate their words. advanced technologies which allow this should be added for each race seperately (after you meet them) . These would be required to apply the alliance / espionage / advanced diplomatic options t
I know, but a universal translator is such a strange technology. It does so much that in reality is so complicated. It's also so easy to research. Perhaps leave the universal translator, but define it as giving a very rough translation? Good enough for basic trade or diplomancy, but not good enough for advanced options where you need to UNDERSTAND as oppossed to KNOW what someone is saying. Then you can add cultural technologies for each major race. Once researched thes
I'd like to back Fredrick's thoughs here. I hope there will be no 'winning' style of play for metaverse success. Galaxy size should be ok. I usually like playing on smaller galaxies so that I can complete a game in one evening. Obviously this will score much lower than someone who plays on the largest galaxies. I assume the fact it takes less time means I can get more games in which would balance the situation. Style of play is what has me slightly apprehensive. How will you balan
