Please explain what we should expect for event markers.

What event markers should we be seeing? In the last build the only marker I saw was what looked like a cyclone (or
perhaps it is ment to look like a worm hole?) With the Alpha 4 build I have now seen three icons for these markers,
the cyclone, a double cyclone, and the older "blossoming flower" icon. Is there a significance to the different
icons? Is each icon supposed to indicate its own type of event?

Cheers,
Jack

In the end, we'd like to see well over 20 different Anomaly Icons. As of right now, the anomaly event has no connection with the anomaly animation displayed. However, this can be easilly changed if we want the graphic to hint at what the anomaly could be. Suggestions?

Having anomaly icons tied to anomaly types would allow us to take specific action before surveying them. For
instance, if there was a specific anomaly icon for the research anomaly it would allow us to take best
advantage of the anomaly.

But, this might detract from the randomness of the game. You will have to weigh which way you want to go on
this.

I think I'd prefer not to have a certain icon tied to a certain outcome or type of outcome. I'd prefer the randomness of the event.

Mmm, or have different icons relating to the risk it is to go for that anomaly. One could have a "risky" icon, for events that can be very good or very bad (more good than bad tho), a "minor" icon for things that affect your game only slightly. Or something like that.

No, some anomalys will do your ship damage, or worse, release a fleet of time-suspended drengin battlecruisers into the galaxy. So yes, there will be risks taken in probing an anomaly. With that being said, I really like the idea of anomaly images corrisponding with the risk of getting an negative anomaly event. We could have it something like this...
Image / Risk of a Negative Event
-Space junk / Low Risk 1/100
-Glowing Meteorite / Medium Risk 1/50
-Space Distortion / High Risk 1/10
-Glowing Pink Flower / Extremely High Risk 1/2
Then, of course, the event that you get would be more benifitial the higher the risk is. You go and search the "Space Junk",you'll have a 1/100 chance of something bad happening, but you'll probably only find 50 space bucks (or something equilly as insignificant). You probe the crazy pink glow, however, and you have a 50% chance of something bad happening, but if you the the positive event, then you find 3 Avitars, half of the galaxy loses its fog of war, and all other races lose 50% of their population! I'd take the gamble, thats for sure. :D

The risk basis sounds ok, but I think you shouldn't know the risk. It's part of the fun! I do think that different anomalies should have different icons symbolising the type of anomaly, with each type having a range of possible effects. For example

wormhole :- wormhole in space. May lead to another location once and tehn collaspe, may form a permanent link, may contain trapped resources, may contain trapped ship (friendly or hostile), may collaspe and destroy your ship.

wreck :- ancient wreck. May contain research benefit (general or specific), may contain resources, may be salvageable, may belong to another race, may be a trap, may provide map information.

comet :- may contain resources, may contain research benefit, may explode and destroy ship, may divert course and move toward a planet (convert to ship and move 1 square towards a planet each go. Destroy it with a cruiser or better or else hot planet).

Gas Nebula :- may contain ships (as wreck). can hide ships in it.

Black hole :- normally destructive. May act as worm hole. May have trapped ships on event horizon (as wreck).

Glowing Pink Flower :- very strange. Your crew is on narcotics!

Paul.
