My daughters are in 6th and 8th grades, and I have to agree with the too much homework assertion. In our district, the rule is no more than half an hour of homework per subject per day...but that's for an average student, and even at that, with 8 periods, that leads to a possible 4 hrs of homework per day.....AFTER 7 hours spent at school. I can see having one worksheet, to see if they are comprehending the concept that was covered...but what is the point of doing three pages of math probl

32 " 'Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD. Older folks today are called "senior citizens." Originally the designation referred to those who had lived longer and therefore deserved more respect. Today the term seems less positive. It often refers to the rejected, the helpless dependents, the infirm, the useless in our society. There are even those over the age of sixty-five who refuse to take the benefits owed to

As Long As You Love Me by Dolly Topacio As long as you love me, I'll be by your side, I'll be your companion, Your friend and your guide. As long as you love me, As long as you care, I'll do anything for you, I'll go anywhere. I'll bring you the sunshine, To comfort all your tears, I'll gather up rainbows, To chase all your fears. <BR
This one....it's mine and DH's song, from before we ever even met face to face..... Because you love me JoDee Messina I don't know how I survived In this cold and empty world For all this time I only know that I'm alive Because you love me When I recall what I've been through There's some things That I wish I didn't do Now I do the things I do Because you love me And now that
So instead of calling the police to restrain the child, you are just doing it yourself. I don't think so. It's part of my job as a teacher...and it's less traumatic for the child, as I'm someone with whom she is familiar and more comfortable <
Leviticus 12 Purification After Childbirth 1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Say to the Israelites: 'A woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son will be ceremonially unclean for seven days, just as she is unclean during her monthly period. 3 On the eighth day the boy is to be circumcised. 4 Then the woman must wait thirty-three days to be purified from
Sorry, but as a former kindergarten teacher, I find this whole situation sad and ridiculous. One year, I had a child who acted the way this girl was shown to act...and on several occasions. Never once did I or the school administration consider calling the police to subdue her or handcuff her and take her away. We dealt with the situation in the way we were taught to deal with it in our college classes...I had an entire quarter dedicated to classroom d

A Thousand Fair Suitors by Jeff Kurfess A thousand fair suitors all stab at your heart Those poets of movement and jockeys of art The high-volume vendors who hustle romance Splashing their canvas with color and dance The blasters of trumpets, gold banners unfurled They offer lush gardens in glistening worlds Yes, bearers of torches and carvers of stone Who

Beautiful Wife by Robert McGennisken The road may not always be smooth, The weather not always fair. The mountains always huge, A storm, always in the air. Not eye to eye do we always see, And differ sometimes our opinions will. Our world not full of jewels and treasure, Of trouble and strife, more than our fill. But together tall we will stand and forge a
Leviticus 7 The Guilt Offering 1 " 'These are the regulations for the guilt offering, which is most holy: 2 The guilt offering is to be slaughtered in the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered, and its blood is to be sprinkled against the altar on all sides. 3 All its fat shall be offered: the fat tail and the fat that covers the inner parts, 4 both
Very good resolutions, Dharma. Perhaps if more JU bloggers would adopt the same policy, much of the BS we are so tired of would eventually disappear. I for one am "borrowing" your guidelines as of Jan. 1, and will again be blogging about my life whenever I feel like, as well as social issues, spiritual issues, etc. If people don't like it, no one is forcing them to read it!

I feel like this could have been written just for me. DH works 12 hr days sometimes, the kids are in school and then have homework and chores....I'm here all day, so I feel like I SHOULD be able to accomplish whatever needs to be done without asking for help. It's my job, you know? And it's not like I have any extended family around...they're all 150 miles away--and I don't really have close friends, either. SO....either I do it or it doesn't get done. Either way, life goes on, thoug

The Christmas Tree by UrBaybee Christmas can be light and joyous It can also be gray and sad Remembering those not with us Times once perfect and times once glad As a child the season was happy With toys, presents, and good cheer Loving wishes from friends and family Mom and Dad were always here As an adult I dreaded Christmas You see, I lost my Mom on this day Nothing can or will take her pla

Very well said...I think most of us could find ourselves in that description, or most of it.
Reply By: kingbeePosted: Tuesday, December 21, 2004 However, in many cases recently, that is not what is happening....any song referencing "Christmas" is banned, but songs about Hanukkah and Kwanzaa can be sung.....Nativity scenes are not allowed, but menorahs are. Do you see the point...85% of the population of our country is being told that their beliefs can't
Exodus 16 1 On the fifteenth day of the second month after they had left Egypt, the whole company of Israel moved on from Elim to the Wilderness of Sin which is between Elim and Sinai. 2 The whole company of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron there in the wilderness. 3 The Israelites said, "Why didn't GOD let us die in comfort in Egypt where we had lamb stew and all the bread we could eat?
