Will You...Help Me?

Exodus 18:17-18

17Moses' father--in-law said, "This is no way to go about it. 18You'll burn out, and the people right along with you. This is way too much for you--you can't do this alone.

For their book What Every Mom Needs.the authors surveyed some 1000moms about their needs. To the question "What do you need most, Mom?" they responded:

+ A nanny

+ A housekeeper

+ A secretary

+ Another set of arms

+ To get organized

+ Help

We can easily blurt out confessions like these, but when it comes down to everyday life, most of us have a tough time actually asking for help. Griping seems to come more easily.

Perhaps we feel that asking for help is a sign of weakness. Or maybe we feel guilty about asking for help. Moms are supposed to be able to fix whatever is broken or hurt, and do it better than anyone else.

The toughest--but most important--question we may ever have to ask is, "Will you help me?" If Moses couldn't handle all the needs of the Israelites alone, why do we think we can handle all the needs of those around us without help? So, Mom, swallow hard and ask the question, "Will you help me?"

I don't ask... I just tell her to go do X or to go pick up Y. but since she's only 5 she's really very limited in what she can do.

I'd love to have help; I'd love to ask. Where? Single mom's don't get to ask and sure can't afford to ask with money... Stuff just doesn't get done.

I feel like this could have been written just for me. DH works 12 hr days sometimes, the kids are in school and then have homework and chores....I'm here all day, so I feel like I SHOULD be able to accomplish whatever needs to be done without asking for help. It's my job, you know?  And it's not like I have any extended family around...they're all 150 miles away--and I don't really have close friends, either.  SO....either I do it or it doesn't get done. Either way, life goes on, though, you know?
