I love the pauses from auctions. It gives me time to check resources, check profitability of buildings and rotate them, and check on opponents and review who the biggest threats are. Sometimes you need a little breathing space in a fast paced game.

My suggestion is to make multiplayer QM (and maybe FFA too) unlockable after you've completed the tutorial. I've gotten into many QM matches where new players don't know what to do yet and have no chance (example from today was founding robotic and building 2 nonadjacent steel mills away from their base and not taking an iron tile). For everyone's sanity I think it would be helpful.
Completely agree that scavenger needs a buff of some sort. Used to be my go to HQ. Now it's almost last especially in larger games. Just not enough tiles to make money and fuel costs kill you and put you into a lot more debt so a scavenger power play is less effective (I miss this!). How many times do you find water, carbon, and aluminum close to each other? I think your best suggestion is that scavengers should have half the fuel cost (or at least 1 extra claim somewhere). I'd be war
Twitch channels for Zultar, Cubit, and PBhead are great resources. Check out some of their most recent matches and pay special attention to their latest matches as the game is still in beta and changing constantly. Zultar is really good in that he does a great job in explaining what he's doing and why. http://www.twitch.tv/pbheadrecording/ http://www.twitch.tv/zulta
nevermind. don't want to derail the thread.
First issue sounds like you're taking quite a bit of auctions which gives you a lot of debt. Pick and choose selectively which ones you want to take. You can't have all of them. It also sounds like maybe you should let some of the auctions go for low tiles across the map. Second thing to consider is that scavengers typically don't use iron and steel. There are certain isolated circumstances where you might do it for a period of time but typically you don't claim an
I don't think more starting stocks will fix it for 8p FFAs because I've played 6 FFAs today, each with about 6 to 8 players. In most of them underdogs bought into big players and allowed 3rd parties to jump in and finish the kill on an otherwise strong player. In another I was racing vs someone else (so we both ended up with 5 stocks in each other, starting at 10 stocks of ourselves owned) and a third party with the ability to buy eith
Beta 9 will work like #1.
I'd like to point out that the game being referenced where I won with $800k in debt WAS on beta 9. My base share price by the end of the game was -$6 but as a tactic I bought as much of other people's stock as I could early to prop up my own share price. I almost completely ignored power and won without an offworld. I'm telling you....scientific is ove
Played a game tonight and confirmed via replay. I mutinied a patent lab and went for Teleportation. The entire time the patent for teleportation was 1 second ahead of the patent lab mutiny and yet it didn't award the patent to me (there was no counter mutiny either). Looks like the lab lags by an additional second to award the patent and the countdown number is in fact wrong. In this case researching the patent was a full second ahead (and not a fraction of a second or anything. Otherwise
I'm going to disagree that all the HQ's are balanced at the moment. Scientists have a clear advantage based on the double fuel cost change in beta 8 and 9. Why do you think that 9 times out of 10 the scientific spot is the first one founded and people take on all that debt? Because it pays off in all the fuel you save and the resources you get access to directly next to your base. It's especially true if the black market is strong since they resist black market so well. <br /
After playing with it a little more my only real concern is the debt diving it causes for new players. It's easier to pick them off cheaply now.Taking the 2 adjacent low aluminum near your base vs the high aluminum halfway across the map is a hard concept to get a new player to understand. I don't have as much of an issue with it anymore. It's just an adjustment.
Um... I haven't played a single game post patch, nor properly watched em - mostly lurking here and there while missing all the important parts. So this is more of a question than anything else. Is there any reason to build farms at lvl 2-3? Sounds like reactors will have the edge every time.
Still definitely viable and in some cases preferred. Because robots now have double fuel costs as well (and they use pow
The AI also is regularly two upgrades behind the player, keep that in mind. Its low debt comes at a price. The new shipping cost does fix the problem of cross-map mines. And incidentally, it makes teleportation suddenly worthwhile to pick up in Campaign.
I guess I should clarify that I have no experience with either of the scenarios you mentioned as I've never played campaign and never play w
Ok I just got off work so put me down for tuesday (tomorrow). I haven't played much beta 8+ yet so i'm going train like Rocky tonight and then lose tomorrow.
Maybe it's just me but I liked the resource balance in beta 7. Everything had a chance to balance itself out and nothing became too powerful. Fast forward to beta 8 where fuel costs are doubled and suddenly power and fuel go crazy especially with a difficult map. Playing a 1v1 today I had to build 3 geotherms as a robot just to keep pace with power. Dedicating an entire upgrades worth of tiles to power seems excessive. I've also noticed that debt diving is VERY frequent
i was looking for a match for awhile. i just left it to keep searching.
I had an issue where the last steel mill in my triangle wouldn't finish building and would disappear. I rebuilt my steel mill 5 different times and every time it would get to about 55% and then stop building and credit me the iron. Rinse repeat. I asked other people to watch it from their perspective and they could see my steel mill build and then stop building suddenly. Same thing happened when i tried to build a farm. After a little bit another player had a problem where th
Unfortunately not actually limited to playing the skirmish while you wait. I had the same problem launching a quickmatch without playing the skirmish today.
Tonight it's happened 100% of the time while I play a skirmish while waiting for a match. I've killed OTC 4 or 5 times after it finds me a 1v1 match and then freezes up.
What I've noticed is that it typically happens if it says you've found a match. It will start to get everything ready to go into the match and gray out the "cancel, play skirmish, and resume skirmish" buttons so they no longer work. Eventually it will go to the new loading logo and skip to the "load rendering" message where it freezes there. I believe I've had it both while I'm playing a skirmish as well as just sitting there in the menu screen waiting. Definitely know it'
-on every new day it might be an idea to reorder the players stock from high to low value. this way you know the highest player is mostly the biggest threat. I would only do this on a particular time of the day otherwise the orders keeps jumping around and people will misclick a lot. also it gives you some historic information to since if a lower player stand first the you know he is doing less well then the day before. A new add on as well would be gree
I would like to see a Sell everything button. I hadn't played for a little while and had to search the web for the obscure shortcut to do it. Love the way the game is shaping up. Keep up the great work!
I don't know that I'd call it obscure. It's under the hotkeys in the options menu as well as all over the web. I'd hate to have 1 button that i accidentally push and fin
Thought you guys should see this replay from last night with me, hydro, PB, and dermas. Dermas dives into almost $500k in debt and has a $0 value base price and yet his stock never goes down the entire game. He ends with almost $1m in debt and his stock price is still escalating. Zultar had a similar experience on his stream yesterday. Stock price entirely propped up by owning other people but very low base price thus making them immune to debt. Crazy
Same issue I had twice last night. I had to go into task manager and kill the game entirely to escape. It started into the quickmatch after pairing me up and got to the rendering message and never progressed. EDIT- Might have to look into this one a little more. Roughly 40% of my 1v1 matches result in failure to launch into the game and freezing up where i have to quit out of the game.
