I get the impression the plan is for the bonus packs to all be free, although I think you'd need to 'renew' your subscription next year if they release any after that? The bonus pack so soon after release is to reward those people who have bought the game with some extra stuff immediately. Once the game had gone gold (been sent off to the CD duplicating gods), they couldn't add anything else to the game, so they worked on stuff for the bonus pack. That's what I've read, anyway. :)
Mythor
Sorry, Slitherin, I've stopped looking. :notsure: Have you got an EB near you? I'd suggest pestering them about it. :) ~SDC~
Oh, you poor babies, taking a couple of hours to download! It has taken me *literally* days just to get the base game! :P Now I'm going to stop complaining and go play it! :) ~SDC~
Excellent! Right after Galciv +bonuspak -multimedia finally downloads for me... ;) Oh well, 85mb on top of 366mb won't kill me to download again. Thanks for doing it this way as well, Brad. :) ~SDC~
I'm still "Mythor" here? So that, at least, hasn't been dragged out of my ordering info? :) The Metaverse thing might just be because it's mostly just the beta testers and such that are on there? I've not even looked at that yet. ~SDC~
Maybe an alarm feature like the much ridiculed one in MoO3? :) ~SDC~
Possible solution: Could a percentage of the 'unused' resources be put aside each turn into a pool for that project that could then be used later on? That might add some extra AI programming, since they'd have to know how to use that to their advantage too. Could open up some more technology options though, since you could research "Improved Stockpiling" that gives you a greater percentage or something? :) ~SDC~
Bed? Again? Do you do anything but sleep? ;p Good luck with the move. :) ~SDC~
Email sent. Thanks. :) ~SDC~
Sorry Brad, hadn't been checking my email because of that dang Weapons.md_ file. It finished! (again!) I don't have an email about the CD yet, unless you meant the email address to write to? Will go drop that one an email now. :) It's a hassle, I know I'm complaining a bit, but it's very frustrating being so close to the game and yet not being able to play. ;) ~SDC~
The bandwidth being used would dramatically decrease if so many people weren't having to download and re-download so many parts!! :P ~SDC~
Yep, I'm an aussie. I actually got it finished last night, then it had problems with another file after it tried to install it, then with the rc1 install it all got wiped and now I'm back to Weapons.mdl again. (:( Isn't there some way for me to increase the number of retries? :notsure: ~SDC~
I have RC1 as well and it's still not working properly for me either. It's stuck at downloading Weapons.md_ yet again. I assume it's one of the larger files and the lame 2 retry restriction means I don't have much chance of getting the whole file before running out of retries. :notsure: ~SDC~
Can I still get a CD even though I ordered a Drengin.net subscription? I hope so, since the SDC is not well enough designed to let me actually get GalCiv via downloading methinks... :notsure: ~SDC~
The resume functionality of SDC leaves a lot to be desired. It seems to have been designed with cable users in mind, since it won't even save where you're up to within a file to resume later, it will only (sometimes) save the files you've completed. :notsure: I'm just going to keep at it for the moment and hope for the best. Failing that, I'll order the cd. LOL ~SDC~
After installing the latest SDC I've had to start my download all over again. :notsure: This is going to take forever... ~SDC~
Does this new one have an option to specify how many times to retry downloading a file before giving up? I've had a hell of a time trying to get some of the larger files with only 2 retries. :( ~SDC~
Wow, I suddenly feel a whole lot better! ;p I recently celebrated my 25th birthday. :CONGRAT: ~SDC~
You're kidding? LOL I'll have to go look for stories about it, thanks. :) ~SDC~
I think I saw mention of a technology upgrade that allows you to have more than the standard number of trade routes? I may be wrong on that. If there's not already something you can research to increase the number, you've got my vote for the creation of that. I'd love to be able to 'win' via having a tremendously powerful trading empire. :) ~SDC~
I'm an Aussie, so it's only ten to seven (pm) over here. Not that I'm normal. ;) ~SDC~
As Frogboy says up higher, it's on irc.stardock.com The stardock central channel you get into through SDC is #SDCentral The GalCiv channel is #galciv :) ~SDC~
Have a nice snooze. I suspect you'll be even more tired by the end of 'tomorrow'. ;) ~SDC~
"Being a 56ker from Australia is going to make downloading 600meg a pain in the behind if so." The game itself is only 84.5mb and once you have that bit, you can play it. You just won't have all the spiffy multimedia stuff. So you can get the 84.5mb +.6mb for the bonuspack and play GalCiv while the multimedia downloads... It's what I'll be doing. :) ~SDC~
MoO3 had a demo. I have it on a disc somewhere. Never played it since it wouldn't work properly. :) ~SDC~
