by teh way in the new bonus pak you will be able not to have the stars clustered at all. they are spread all over the place. Boy that feels almost like a completely different game rich ~SDC~
amd the bonus pack i believe hooks into different parts of the game. so i' wouldn't count on it rich
4 or 5 at least for me. In the current game the a.i' are bright or better. the torians are the most powerful in the galaxy, but i;m catching up fast. got to watch out for those new ********* :-) the bonus pack makes this seem almost like a completely new game. There are so many awesomes things added that have changed the complexity of the game, I'm rethinking my strategy for the next game from what i'm learning now. i think i'm enjoying myself way to much/ rich<

if you lose control of the senate you lose the bonuses you had when you started, which can really hurt if you're the war party and you hitpoints get cut in half then youhave to wait 2 years to try and get a majority then. and it might be very hard to go to war against an opponent (if you try to attack first) ~SDC~

Hi Jeff, Hi Soulfire! The a.i get the same tech tree and the same ships. Also if you mod the game and design a super destroying ship, then the a.i.'s get the same ships that you will have access to. i first jump my tech to 100% and go for propulsion (gigantic galaxies) i keep it up till i can buy gravity accelorators, then i go for communication thru universal translator, and hopefully thru weapons and defense before the drengin come calling rich ~SDC~

hi one way to win the game is to have an alliance with all the major races left, You will win when the next turn happens and the a.i's can have an alliance against you, so watch out when you attack a race, your major trading partner might have to reluctantly declare war on you ~SDC~

hi Biffman those 26's are very rare and when they do show up they are a godsend. Try to locate as much capitals there as you can. that planet will usually become the most powerful planet you will have. Also freighters from there can have increased value especially if you establish with the biggest planets the other races have rich ~SDC~

hi fleabit and soulfire I've played the gamma which is the release version without the bonus pack and i've never had the game feel old. Everytime you play a game it seems to develop differnetly. One time you're in a corner, another right in the middle. And if you set the a.is' to random you never know what to expect.
