Galaxy size ? (again...)

Well, it has been asked recently, but I remind having seen in a thread that galaxy sizes went from 3x3 to a whopping 27x27 sectors. Now in the online User manual the maximum listed is 12x12 ...
What are the real sizes ?

12x12 is quite dated info, this was max in one of the sooner betas. In the latest beta I have acces to it is 23x23, however, I do not know figures for gamma ;)

23x23 ... That means 529 sectors, with say 1.5 system/sector and 3 planets/system ... 2380 planets !!!!! HUUUUUUGEEE !! LOL

Thank goodness for the little screen that tells you what's going on when you reload!

It takes me a week or more to finish a game of GalCiv in a gigantic galaxy.

You can never have too many planets, that's my motto.

Well, I suppose it is.... if not it should be.

Takes me about 2 weeks. That's when I'm glad that the AI will surrender. The games could last twice as long if I had to beat every last planet.

1-2 week long games playing how many hours a day? :P

4 or 5 at least for me. In the current game the a.i' are bright or better. the torians are the most powerful in the galaxy, but i;m catching up fast.

got to watch out for those new ********* :-)

the bonus pack makes this seem almost like a completely new game. There are so many awesomes things added that have changed the complexity of the game, I'm rethinking my strategy for the next game from what i'm learning now.

i think i'm enjoying myself way to much/

On this topic, it would be cool to be able to adjust the "closeness" of the differenrt civ - that is, have a "spread of civs" parameter putting civs more or less close/far from each other (with some random variance) . This will allow to play on a huge map that has plenty of colonization potential while still having early contact with at least some races.
If it's entirely random you can end up seeing noone for too long on a big map. But I love big maps because there's more exploration, colony building, "strategic reserve space" in case of wars, etc... :)

by teh way in the new bonus pak you will be able not to have the stars clustered at all. they are spread all over the place. Boy that feels almost like a completely different game

On a the two larger map sizes, it would be cool to have all the homeworlds start in the center 60% or so of space, leaving the middle 20-30% or so free of homeworlds. This would leave a little "buffer" in the center of the map for expansion and ensure that your homeworlds were not right on the "front line" to begin with, and also reserve a lot of expansion space all around the edges of the map. Using such a pattern, nobody would start in a corner and you would always have contact with other races in a reasonable period of time on even the largest maps, while still ensuring the initial homeworlds had enough space between them so that nobody started right on top of another race.
