I had a crash once, and I get some flickering graphics on the 3d ship and planet models, but my laptop is most definitely NOT designed to play this game. It's a tablet PC with an intel extreme chip. My desktop runs like a champ

I've been playing mostly at normal. It's interesting because in the game I have on my desktop, the Torians are really giving me a run for my money. It's going to be a long, slow, bloody war, but my economy far outmatches theirs, my influence is catching up, and I just captured the jewel of their empire, as well as their homeworld. The other 3 races might pose a challenge to me unless I can convince them to ally with me, which is proving difficult as I grabbed a few evil bonuses when I coloniz
I must admit I thought everyone was already on the digital download bandwagon. Who cares about a box and a CD? Who wants to go to a store when there's a downloadable version available, particularly if the publisher is as awesome as Stardock and will let you buy the box content separately. I was playing the game midafternoon the day it came out, and yet I went to the forum and saw all kinds of people whining about how they couldn't get it at retail. If I were them I would have canc
I had a class 18 planet get the "double quality" random event yesterday. That was nice. I've never seen anything better than that. I like to trade with the minors...they'll give you tons of cash for crappy tech they won't use anyway. I sold planetary invasion to a minor today for 1300BCs. I empty their treasuries and then invade. Heck sometimes I even give em weapon techs for all the good it does them.
I was king of thinking a "bridge view" would be really cool...so I could be like in the captains chair of whatever ship I want, viewing the action from a window inside the ship. Problem is the ships rarely face one another...the weapons just fire at whatever angle they want to, which is fine...it just doesn't lend itself to that particular view
I did as suggesteRun it in windowed mode. Then try right clicking it on the taskbar, and see if it has a move option. Click on the move option and then use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move it around until you can see the title bar. Hit enter to place the window, then use the mouse to drag it to your second window. That worked, kind of. I
Oh, obviously I know the command line switch to run in windowed mode, it's just not working because my laptop monitor sucks.
Is there a way for me to run galciv2 in window mode on a monitor that maxes out at 1024x768? My laptop screen will only run at that res, but I have a second monitor that I run in a dual screen config that I'd like to play the game on. That monitor can run at 1280x1024, but I can't move the galciv2 window onto it because (I presume) I'm running the game at the same res as my desktop. is there a way to either make the game launch straight into my second monitor, or a way to move it wh
Every game I play the computer starts out with mass drivers every time. Occasionally they switch to beam weapons after my armor makes their weapons ineffective, but usually they stay locked in to mass drivers. I haven't played tons of games, but the computer has yet to go after missile techs on me. I just researched missiles the first time last night, and they rock once you get to harpoons. I beefed up a frigate with 9 missile attack and 4 duranium armor. I was knocking out the
Download the newest patch from the Download page or SDC. The new tech tree lists all the other required techs for a ship to be unlocked.
In order to get close you will generally need to trade extensively with them, and be of similar/same alignment. Also, it helps if you just give them tech/money.
I know all of these ideas have already been posted in some form or another on some thread or another, but here's my list: Launch All button for ships orbiting a colony Tabs for ship-types on colony launch screen (e.g. All, Cargo, Small, Medium, Large) so that I can launch based on hull size. Right click menus for stacked ships so that I can still have access to the "construct" "upgrade" "guard" "sentry" buttons that you lose access to when ships get launched.<br
There's actually a full blown company called Stargate here in washington. Not sure what they do, but their symbol is a ring with a ramp leading into it. Makes me wonder... If you are referring to Washington state, that company probably has something to do with Stargate production. They film in Vancouver.
It seems like it should be pretty simple, but I cannot get the game to run in windowed mode. It goes into fullscreen no matter what I do. I created a shortcut to the file like this: "c:\program files\stardock\totalgaming\galciv2\galciv2.exe" w I'm trying to play on my laptop, which has an external monitor. I want to drag the game window to my second monitor, which is bigger and has a better resolution.
Is there a way for me to upgrade my core ships? I'm not that good at designing ships, and I'd like to just be able to take a default constructor, colony ship, transport or freighter and stick on faster engines. Actually I'd like to do this with any core ship. Is there a way to start with one of them and modify it without trying to rebuild it from scratch?
How the heck do I get the options to "upgrade" or "construct" with ships that are stacked? All I get are the ship icons, and I have to move them to their own square before I can access those options. This just wastes movement and it seems like there should be a better way.
Just wanted to say thanks to Stardock for making that really cool "custom race" icon available as your race picture, even if you never see it in game. Maybe if there's multiplayer it would be more important.
Maybe I'm missing something, but how do I tell if I have enough food production to meet the needs of my population. I don't see a graph on there, and according to my math, the 55 mts of food I produce is only enough for 55 million colonists. Also, do I have to produce food on each world, or can I produce it centrally and have it shipped around? Does this require freighters as in MOO2?
I think when I finished my game I had 22 ships. I should have just started invading as soon as I had 3 or four...but I was behind on my research tree and had to spend 17 turns waiting for invasion to research. That's always the trickiest part of these games is getting your research order down. I know it varies from game to game, but when you first start playing you don't really know what benefit you'll get from what techs other than obvious ones.
Not a bad first game really. It was pretty dull, actually, but not bad. I set the conditions pretty easy. Me as terrans vs 1 drengin opponent on sub-normal difficulty. They're way easy to beat 1v1 like that in a tiny galaxy. I used my start-up capital to buy a couple factories to get the economy going, then I bought up colony ships and started populating the galaxy. I had 4 colonies to their 2, and then by the time they had 4 I had 5 that were mostly developed. They weren't even building
It has arrived! At least for me. I just did a check for updated applications and it's downloading galciv2.exe right now. Looks like they've heard our pleas and have released the game early. Damn them, though, because I'm just leaving for lunch with co-workers.
Thats good that we can at least do social and military. Monkey Pants, you're correct as long as projects A and B are of equal size and cost. This was something that bugged me about MOO2. I could only build a ship or a building. So what happened? The easiest to construct buildings were always done first. I'm so glad that galciv has "payment plan" options. In MOO if I didn't have enough cash to build something I had no choice but to wait, divert output to trade goods t
Race: Terran Galaxy size: tiny Opponents: All Habitable planets: default Clusters: default difficulty: sub-normal I want to see every single race crammed into a tiny galaxy if the game will allow it. I may never play on a gigantic galaxy, just because I never find it fun in TBS games spending hours building and expanding before I even encounter another race. In those games you end up making mistakes early on that you don't realize until 50 turns late
I think they aren't releasing it so that they have time to finish their own games and get ahead early on the metaverse. Seriously, though...just push the button....please? Pretty please? I'll wait until tomorrow for the bonuspak if that's what you're finishing up.
What's the scoop with simultaneous building in GalCiv2? I hate the way most TBS games only let one entire planet build only one thing at a time. Can I at least do simultaneous military and social production? What if I build multiple starbases, can I crank out multiple ships at once or combine their output to build one thing faster? I know realism isn't a key thing in these games, what with space aliens, space ships and laser guns, but it's so jarringly unrealistic that an entire co
