Won my first game!

Woot!

Not a bad first game really. It was pretty dull, actually, but not bad. I set the conditions pretty easy. Me as terrans vs 1 drengin opponent on sub-normal difficulty. They're way easy to beat 1v1 like that in a tiny galaxy. I used my start-up capital to buy a couple factories to get the economy going, then I bought up colony ships and started populating the galaxy. I had 4 colonies to their 2, and then by the time they had 4 I had 5 that were mostly developed. They weren't even building ships until I invaded their home sector...just a couple of light fighters. One on one they outclassed me big time, but I was using 3 fighter fleets that destroyed them. I think I killed a total of 4 ships and conquered 3 of the 4 worlds before they surrendered to me. Took around 150 turns....but I was dinking around. I could have invaded and won a lot sooner.

The game is great. Plays well even on my laptop with an Intel Extreme graphics chip. Not super fast framerates, and obviously I don't get the eye candy, but I'm leaving work now to go home and fire the game up on my home machine. Then I'll get to have some fun

Also won my first game, although even easier than yours. One on one against the Drengin (set to Foolish), Tiny Galaxy, other settings default. Roughly two years of game time, and they never even built a ship (compared to my ~5 colony ships, 4 attack ships, and 3 troop transports).

Playing against the Humans and Drengin for my second game, with the Humans set to one level above Foolish. They, at least, are expanding slightly. Small galaxy, and there's one minor Civ around, which is adding variety.

I finished the first mission from the campaign. which was easy too and a good start to learn the game.

now its nearly 1.30 AM my time so I better try and get some sleep before I will start a huge non-campaign game tomorow. so far I enjoyed GC2 very much and cant wait to continue playing.

I think when I finished my game I had 22 ships. I should have just started invading as soon as I had 3 or four...but I was behind on my research tree and had to spend 17 turns waiting for invasion to research.

That's always the trickiest part of these games is getting your research order down. I know it varies from game to game, but when you first start playing you don't really know what benefit you'll get from what techs other than obvious ones.

Won the first one with a cultural victory quite easily on beginner level. In fact it may be easier than the beta at beginner. I will definitely move ahead to normal

Hey does finishing faster improve your score?

Still in my first game. Medium map, default opponents (Altarians, Arceans, Yor, Drengin, Torians), on "normal" difficulty, me playing as humans.

The Arceans are kind of too strong right now, they own half the map after the Altarians (which I supported) and the Yor (whose home planet I managed to snatch not one turn too early) surrendered to them. I even got the Drengin to surrender to me, which gave me a nice foothold in Arcean territorry. Sadly, some things happened too quickly, like me having to get my part of the Yor before they fell to the Arceans, so my forces are spread really thin. Another aspect in this issue is that I tried supporting the Altarians too long. Right now I fear some of my not so bad ships have been repainted yellow, which makes me wish I had some shield technology.

All that's left now are the Arceans, the Torians and me, with the torians in a really bad situation after having fought wars against the Drengin, the Yor and the Altarians. The suckers still managed to get a class 17 planet (best I know of) from a minor), but their territory in limited to two corners of the map with me in-between.

I think I'll go for a diplomatic victory, since I can't really afford to lose trade with either race. It's been a lot of fun ("one more turn!!!"), with quite a nice balance of fighting and diplomacy. I just hope the Arceans aren't getting tired of their mass driver weapons and armor; as long as they stick to those my Moloch class ships (large hulls with 6 beam attack and 6 armor, some sensors, speed 5 and a nasty design) and the next generations will be quite a force which should be able to keep their frigates and fighters frightened.

Well i just finished my first game... it's 3 AM, i'm ready to crash... haha Most fun I had was in the Ship designer!!! OMG it was flashbacks to Stars! all over again, except this time you don't choose a picture for the visual representation, you build the freeking ship! God i love technology and progress... I had so much fun putting together my own ship classes haha. We should get a screenshot thread going (how do i take screens ingame? Is there a button? Or should i use fraps?)

Anyway, I was Terrans, tiny galaxy, beginner, with 4 others around... (dont know all the names that well yet), anyway, it took a while but i won in the end. Lot of fun. But, there was one big but. Where is the button that says "continue playing" even though I've won?! I miss that from Civ... hehe Cause i had two rivals left at the end, one big and one not so big. I defeated the big one... then had the small one in the corner, I reaaally wanted to see the larger ships so i went all out on research to get em but then the game ended with a cultural victory before i could see! And no buttont to keep playing anyway ?

Well then i loaded back to the save where it said 10 turns left if this keeps up, and i destroyed all my cultural centers and influence star bases to see if that would change it, but then after the ten turns, it CTDed... hmmm

Anyhow, i had a lot of fun, even though i didn't get to see the large ships yet in my tiny galaxy.

O one thing i was also wondering, how is the military score determined? Cause i totally beat up the big other military rival, like 70 of their ships gone and 8 of mine, but they got twice the score in military? And they only beat two other small factions.

So far, great game though!

See, my first game I managed to lose in under 45 minutes. But then again, I played Medium galaxy, all computers were Intelligent, and I got screwed on planet location. Still, lots of fun. I can't wait to start my "real" game.
