You'll be good with any of them, but I'd get either the 17 or 15 since you'll have at least 3GB of RAM....

Its amazing how efficient they are, or at least how efficient they appear to us ;) . Since they've added Demigod to their plate, I would imagine that they won't start working full time on not-MOM until after its done, especially considering that Demigod is (at least in press coverage) one of the biggest/most important game they're working on. I had already seen previews of Demigod before the announcement that Gas Powered Games and Stardock were going to work together on it a
I like the idea of an observation post/satellite. You could use them, in the case of the observation post, like sentries on your boarder with other races or you could have them patrol your boundries.
I think they fixed the bug that allow stacked starbases on a resource to both take advantage of that resource...
I've had no problems at all with 1.05. I haven't had any stability issues since the betas. There's times I think things are "unfair", but I think that's more the difficulty level than the game itself. I like, but then again, I've liked every update so far. I just need more time to play, my damn job seems to keep interfering with my game time ;) . Keep up the good work, and I can't wait to see the X-pack.
I was kinda iffy on the idea. I could understand if they weren't in a sector you "owned", but that last idea is pretty neat. And you're right, it is easy to understand. I vote for the "Starbase Support Network" ;)
I've got a laptop with a K6+ 450 w/ 160mb RAM and I haven't had any significant problems. I don't play on anything bigger than the large galaxy though. Occasionally there's a slow down but nothing that takes enough away from the game to make me want to quit playing.
Usually it means your spending is too low. I've found that if I have spending at about 10%, my smaller population planets won't build anything. Try increasing your spending slider for military.
I'd be willing to work on 'em too. I think the mods are a great addition to the game and the more the merrier.
When the map is set to display military units, it would be nice to keep the starbases of the other races highlighted even though they are fogged. If the bases are destroyed the resource redisplays on the map, but I'd kinda like to have a better idea of what starbases to either destroy or to hover at until they're destroyed. I like the mine laying idea, and the opposite could be a mine sweeper to "see" the mines and disarm them.
The other race also has to have the alliance tech. Its a tough thing to do.
I have a 450mhz K6+ with 160mb RAM and 4mb video card (its a laptop) and I can run up to the large map with no problem. Sometimes it gets a bit slow, but nothing outrageous. It usually happens when there's a ton of ships that need to move. I haven't even bothered trying the gigantic map, but I haven't considered that to be taking away from my enjoyment of the game.
We had a thread about this a while back, and if I remember correctly Brad made a statement stating something like being evil is easy with instant bonuses, but being good is a challenge with long term benefits. I mean who really wants to choose -25% production because you have to live on the ice caps....
I usually don't buy any other ships. Since there's so much "junk" waiting to be looked at, I usually just wait till I get a scout ship or sensor drone from the spacejunk. As for the population thing, using the evil/good scheme might not be a bad idea. For the evil races, have production furnaces where you can remove your extra population to for short term production boosts (I know there are some random population thining events, but for an evil race having it as a actual "social" prod
I was wondering about this back in the beta, but everytime I was here, I'd always forget to ask it. So this morning I was playing (before going to work, so that shows my priorities ;) ), and I've decided to try an evil, warfarring game. The evil part came quite quickly, and I had to save and go to work. But it got me thinking again about this, there are enough moral events in the game, so is it theoretically possible to switch from evil to good? I know we talked about the "speed" at which i
Well, sadly its kinda pointless now. I uninstalled the previous version of SDC and installed the new one from today which kinda messed up win98. Hopefully, I'll get the new one running soon and I won't have to worry about it....
I have .98 installed, just did it this morning.... Hmmm, guess I'll uninstall and reinstall.
As in newsgroups (Usenet and so forth). When you click on discussions in Stardock Central it says you need "news reading software". Years ago I used Netscape's built in program, but its gotten so unstable on my computer of late that I uninstalled it.
Since we need a news reader to participate in the discussion using Stardock Central, I need to get one (I know I don't have to read it that way). But, its been years since I've used a newsgroup reading program and of course since I last used one, the number of choices has exploded. I was hoping to get some advice on a good one. I'd prefer freeware, but that's not an absolute requirement. Thanks
I've got a 450mhz K6+ w/ 160 RAM (old laptop so I have a monitor plugged in) and I had no problem playing up to the medium galaxy size w/ the last beta. I didn't get to be in the gamma, but Brad said they did some more optimization with the sizes so this type of setup may work fine on some of the larger ones....
Congrats!!! From what you showed in your gameplay example, the 26th can't come soon enough :D
From the other side of it, here's a gushing review for MOO3 http://pc.ign.com/articles/386/386281p1.html
I think you do need to have some statement (like Jack suggested) clarifying that slower machines can play the game on smaller galaxies. I have a 450 w/ 160 RAM and the biggest I can run without feeling bogged down is the large galaxy. With 4Z, it takes forever to get through the first menu, so I have tried to if this still applies....
Figured I'd let you guys know, I saw my first GalCiv ad in a magazine. For some reason I get Computer Games (I never subscribed to them :notsure: ), and on the inside of the back cover in nice shiney glory is an ad. Nice and tasteful and gets the point across; Customizability, Replayability and Variability! Good to see the word getting out!
I think customizability would be great. The new Stars! (that appears to be going nowhere), has it. They've gone nuts with the customization though... http://www.crisium.com/sn/screens/screens_galaxies-f.htm
