I'm sorry that you're upset with the update wimpy. But as a community this has been discussed a few times now. We wont be reverting back to the old image upload, im afraid.

kryo, that error is actually an issue with IIS when we update the forums. Support for the old style links wasn't lost, we just didnt catch all of them that were being used. Part of the problem is that none of them were documented. Philly, thanks for the suggestion for the post, but logging in and out will have no effect.
Unisin, thanks for replying. It's common misconception that 9.0.124 is a lesser version number than 9.0.28. You have to break the number up into parts. So we would have a 9 as the first ordinal, a 0 as the second ordinal and 28 as the last ordinal. Accordingly, if we compare 28 to 124, 124 is greater ;) The test scripts confirm that the javascript is not malfunctioning on the page, but rather your browser is having trouble loading the flash applet. At this time I don't have any additi
Hey guys, when we've acknowledged the problem and stated that we're looking into it and going to fix it, please hold off on the 'me too' replies. We know it's broken already ;) And while we appreciate that you're probably just trying to lend support to the fact that it's busted, it doesn't help us out at all. Mumblefratz, thanks for confirming that the edit function is working on other websites. Unfortunately the only relation those other websites have to the forums is the database th
screwball, thanks for adding to the post.I should have mentioned that those test links were just for neophil at the time. We've since removed the content those links point to. I've put that content back up for you to try testing with though. Please let me know how that turns out. https://forums.wincustomize.com/swfobject/index_dynamic.html https://forums.wincustomize.com/swfobject/index_old.html As we discovered with neophil, it was something on his system (in his case an
I understand that you're eager to get this fixed up. I'm working as fast and effectively as I can. :) But please hold off on 'bump' replies. Theyre pretty much like asking when something is going to get done, and we're trying to encourage users not to do that. ( Forum Issues Moderation Policy )
Here's the exact logic that the page should (and apparently is not) be using: The edit button will be visible if [your] reply has been made within the last 10 minutes. If you attempt to go to the edit url for a reply and the reply was made more than 10 minutes ago, you are redirected. If you open the reply page within the ten minute time period and spend time enough on the edit reply page, to run over the 10 minute limit, the edit of the reply is not allowed
SemazRalan, Is this a report of a bug/issue or is this just a venting? ;) If this is a report of a bug or issue then please elaborate on the problem with as many details as you can list. If you're reporting that the forums are slow because it's loading images; The images are loaded into a page by design. Your browser should be caching them after they have been downloaded the first time. If your browser isn't then please look into your cache settings.
wimpy, I think you make some good points. One thing that I try and do as a developer is make a post every time that I update the forums, which outlines what has been fixed, updated and added. We don't really have anything in place for the rest of the Stardock websites, but probably should. Greater transparency is one of the things that I feel we need to improve on, and on that point I agree with you. Computers and technology is just one of those areas that you either evolve with, or p

There is some reasoning behind it, yes. The final call on the exact amount of time came from the department head though. I'll do my best to explain the basis for the policy; Our forum system has evolved over time from a very, very basic setup. This setup had little moderation tracking and therefore very little accountability. We've been striving to bring it up to a modern standard in line with such forum systems as vBulliten and Invision Power Board. We're getting there, but still hav
No problem fellas. Glad we could get this resolved for you. [e digicons][/e]
We were in the middle of investigating possible routing and networking issues with Cogent and Level2 when this had seemed to magically clear itself up. Our theories right now is that it was a combination of routing problems coupled with the firewall we're using. We think the firewall decided on its own to be incrediblydifficult and make it a pain for people to resolve (and download) bits of the forums which reside on other servers. It's still a theory and it was such a problem that we
We had some problems with the server wincustomize was residing on and are scrambling to get a 'weekend fix' in place. I've noted the download speeds you've posted and will have a look at it as soon as I'm able.
Hack78, are you reporting that the function is still not working for you?
pictoratus, as I stated in the reply before yours, I will be looking into the matter come Monday when I return to the office. Just FYI, having the 'last reply' in a post no longer determines the Edit button appearing or not appearing. It is not strictly confined to the amount of time which has passed since the reply was made.
I snipped a reply by accident, but someone had said
Use google search and add site:https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com to it and you have a very good advanced search.
I'll restore that reply come Monday. Sorry about that. The advanced search has been disabled for some time. We are planning to restore it at some point but do not have a definate date in place as of yet.
There is a time limit on how long you have to edit replies. That limit is 10 minutes. After that period of time, if you attempt to edit a reply, you're redirected back to that reply. Before I put the update up this afternoon, I tested with every single access class of user that we have. All of them were able to edit successfully. When I get back to the office on Monday I'll use one or more of your accounts and see if there is some circumstance tied to your account(s) that is making th
Yeah I changed the method of how the page was 'scrolling' to the reply box after the quote button was clicked. It didnt sit well with me that the previous method was working for only 99.9% of users, so hopefully this will work across the board.
Version v1.6.3177.21890 of the forums was recently published. This was primarily a fix and maint. update. - Fixed a problem with the sidebar in some forums where the category list would throw an exception once in a blue moon. - Fixed an exception being thrown on occasional queries for the livesearch implementation. - Reworked the Active Users code in preparation for refit. Improved mutex handling and logic. - Fixed a problem with the karma cache and duplicate keys.forum
Thank YOU for your persistence in finding the cause. I'm sure this information will help users moving ahead :)
All, this post has shot into a tangent following a discussion of connections to all Stardock servers/services. The intent of this post was to showcase connection problems with the forums, specifically (as indicated by the Title). While I'm not going to (further) moderate out any of the replies made before this one, any subsequent replies **not involving connections to the forums** (ie. some forum address; for example https://forums.wincustomize.com or forums.galciv2.com) will be moderated.</p
Please do not comment on issues that are not related to this post. If you are not getting the 'Minimum Flash Version Not Installed' message then the correct Flash version is installed, but your browser is not correctly rendering the flash applet. It's a problem with your computer, Flash installation or browser(s). There isn't anything more I can do to help you troubleshoot this problem. We use SWFUpload from http://www.swfupload.org/ . Pe
