In the case of most people I know in Ireland it's a persecution complex. They feeel persecuted not because they were/are but because their ancestors were. Not an excuse in the slightest and they need to get over it. Interesting point though and possibly very true. Paul.

Have you heard of the Drake equation? Drake came up with this equation in 1961 to determine the likelihood of us ever finding intelligent life from another planet. N = R x fp x ne x fl x fi x fc x L where N is the chance R is rate of formation of suitable stars to support planets in a habital zone (radiation, energy, light, etc) fp is fraction of those stars actually with planets ne is the number of suitable 'earth' planets fl is the fraction of tho

I actually have to agree with the previous statement, and I'm actually Irish. I am very surprised and disappointed in the obvious racism I see in people In know in Ireland. I find that the problem is particularly acute among Irish people who have never travelled, lived or worked abroad. I think part of the problem is that Ireland has no history of minority cultures. Until recently there was no emigration. Because of this there is no experience

Interesting interviews with Paul O Neill in the last day or two. For someone who was on the National Security Council to say they never saw any evidence of WMD is a serious statement. Personally I agree with Brad. Bush did indeed manipulate the American people to achieve the desired support for war in Iraq, but Saddam did need to be removed. The issue now is for Americans a) are the American people happy with being manipulated? b) does

Brad, you really should research a bit about Britian before making such a silly and completely untrue statement. As for the topic of this thread ... I have absolutely no problem with a democratic country having TV stations which pull ads or shows that generate hatred and incite racism. In England there are laws against incitement to violance or hatred and so I would expect the TV stations to do their job and pull such articles (wher

I gather we're not worried about causality and time bubble collaspe? As a physicist I believe in time cones. You can go back in time but you can then never return to the original future and the new future won't repeat the same. Therefore buying stock in the winning companies, is not gaurenteed to win as chance will be different. That idea may not come, that chance meeting may not occur, that person may or may not die, some government official

Lizzardo, the film deviates strongly from the book with respect to Arwen. In the book there is no fading. She is an elf and will always live forever. That's part of the difficult decision for her. She will live for ever knowing the pain of Aragon's eventually death (from old age). In the books she eventually travels over the sea when Aragon dies (along with Gimli and Legolas). In the film she 'becomes' mortal through her own c

Poor you. Most (not all) forms of sleep disorder are usually linked to lifestyle. The biggest lifestyle issue is usually stress. Hope you're not too stressed out. A friend of mine last eyar had a major sleep problem and in the end found a great solution. 3 weeks backpacking holiday in India. 3 weeks of no TV, no work, no pressures, jet lag, immense heat. She loved it and when she returned slept like a baby every night. Paul.

LDiCesare, just click on start->run and type dxdiag. It will bring up an analysis program which details all the DirectX stuff. That is where the system info report will be. Paul. ~SDC~

I have to agree that Brad is correct in his statement that it is human nature to seek revenge. Terrorists attack the US, the US seeks revenge. Japan attacked the US the US seeked revenge. What he is avoiding is the fact (as seen by many islamics) that the US has been attacking them and their way of life for decades. Unsurprisingly they seek revenge. What constitutes an attack? A small group of terrorists on 9/11? The US government

How about some Stardock merchandise that people could buy? I'm sure there are plenty of players out there who would happily BUY a galciv T-Shirt or even an Empire based T-Shirt. I'm not aware of any empires having merchandise, but it's only a metter or time ;) Paul. ~SDC~

What moral are the races set to? This will have a much bigger factor than seperation. Toughest is to set them all to evil and to play good yourself. I find the hardest settings are a small or medium galaxy, all incredible, all evil. This gives very little room or time for the player to catch up with the major races. Survive long enough though and you can always win with alpha strikes (military or influence). Paul. ~SDC~

When you upgrade from galciv to drengin.net you'll revceive a new serial number. Using the Stardock central program you choose the registration page and enter your new drengin.net serial number. MAKE SURE TO CHANGE TO THe DRENGIN SUBSCRIPTION TAG and not the galciv one. You need to convert your old games to your new drengin.net id (same handle as you currently have). There is a page on the website descrbing how to do this under registration. Once you do this you keep playing and all new

Space sharks are generated tougher than your toughest ship. If you discover them at game start this means about +12 attack. If you discover them when you have battleships, this mean about +30 attack. and so on... Therefore you will never be able to easily defeat them. The best approach is to either lead them away with whatever ship they are focussed on, or to set a trap for them. Look at their attack and defense values. Early space sharks are usually not powerful enough to def

registering from one and confirming from another is not an issue. Stardock have a fairly open policy of allowing you to play the game on multiple computers (within reason). I have the game installed on my 3 computers depending if I'm at home, travelling or at work (I'm bad ;-)). You may need to resort to sending stardock an email to find out what is not working. New identities are not a problem. new email addresses are! Paul.

I login in from seperate computers daily (more than 2). No problems at all. Each time I just enter my email address and password on the top left hand corner. I would guess that something is indeed wrong with your email and password. Your first computer was not still logged in? Not sure if this would make a difference or not. As for submissions, I get submission = 1 all the time and this is successful. It sounds like your alias and id are being mixed up. There are a number of th

Thanks for the offer Alexus, but I'm happy in Gammasquad. Very few of the other Gammasquad members are actively playing, and I stopped submitting 2-3 months ago (just wanted the rank of admiral). You could always change the criteria to 100k points and veteran rank to join and 100 games to be made senator. Would open your empire a bit more. Good luck, Paul.

Thanks for the offer Mayito, but I'll be staying with Gammasquad. It's where I started (well to be honest I formed an empire or two to test the metaverse out before then), but it's where I've always been and it's full of the colleagues who alpha, beta and gamma tested this great game (though few of them actively play any more). It's family :) Paul.
