Help ! I am losing badly... After 3 games, this is getting long...

Ok, I am usually a very experienced strategy gamers, but this game takes the cake..

Which is good in a way, but if I cannot even get started in it after 3x games, I am close to quitting this forever...

I had settled 7 planets, with starbases clsoe by, a good sized fleet, exploring the galaxy, many specials having been claimed and discovered...

then, what do I see ?

ALl my makor planets, over 15 to 30 in habitability start going down, down, down in morale..

I had been building morale improvements, industry and fleet improvements, and had a good research stream going..

And I was playing at the lowest difficulty level....

I know it's a balance thing, and I am usually not bad at this... Hell I was playing MOO I & II at the hardest levels..

Here, my empire crashes with morale in the 20's or lower, even with a massive improvement crash program for all my planets ...NAd I had 4 startbases, with 3x resources as well, including a morale booster I think...

What should I do better ?

Can someone help me out, before I throw this game out the window ?

Thx
Jean

Most important question ...

What was your bank account like?

It sounds like you were spending too much money and your cash was negative. This will cause morale to plummet and easily lead to death.

Check to see how much taxes you are charging your peoples usually your taxes don't should be above 50%, you have to go to the domestic policy screen and click in economics and check what % of taxes you are charging, also if your planets are overpopulated it can also cause your morale to decrease, so build some colony ships and put them in orbit and take some of the extra population out of your planets and let me know what happens.

Also, make sure that when you launch a colony ship you don't put much over 100 million people on it in the early game (more only if you know you are sending this ship to a very high PQ planet, like a 26). The default when you launch a ship is to send half the sending planet's population, which can lead to sending 600 million people to a planet that can't handle it, and morale goes in the dumper.

If your money indicator in the lower left hand corner goes red, you running a negative bank balance, and that can kill morale. Go to the economy screen and rebalance your tax and spend ratio-- as pointed out above, big negative balances are morale killers.

I will check but I had taxes in the 40% range, and my money flow was not negative, i.e. I had a positive balance.

Still in the dark I guess, but I will check..

If I have to, can I send the save game to someone, and they can tell what the the hell is wrong ?

thx

You will need to send the .SAV file plus all the files in the directory of the same name.

Always keep your budget in the positive and try to allway s keep a positive income. Researching trade early and finding trading partners is key to a happy population. Trade allows you to cut taxes and still be able to keep a positive account. It also allows you to spend more money without raising taxes also. If a planet starts getting unhappy pump money into propoganda on a planet until you are able to build a morale boosting improvement or better a habitat improvement. Over time the amount of money increases both from trade and from taxes. So you will able to cut taxes further. Good luck with your next game.
