Actually I should have a former number 1 as well ;) But being number one before the game was released is a bit unfair. Former number 2, 3 and 25 were all fairly earned though over the summer! Paul. ;) ;) ;) ;) PS> Just in case someone doesn't see the humour I don't think rewarding old medals is right unless Stardock run some algorithm on everyones previous saves (renormalise the scores to the same version) and award medals on that basis!

Sorry JillUser, but the information on junkscience is very biased in this regard. There has been much research on DDT over the years (especially in the mid 90's). The good news is that body fat concentrations of DDT have in the US have decreased from 15mg/kg (in 1955) to Just to quote some research for you to read Male alligators in Lake Apopk

Totally agreed, and that's where the compromising will hopefully come in. The US needs to allow direct elections, but not necessarily to allow free structure. For example, the US could design the structure of the government asigning x places to each community and then let those communities have direct elections to fill those places. Hence the Iraqi worry about the US taking it's resources can be blocked, and the US worry about civil war can be

Brad you cover a lot in your post so I'll just cherry pick the major disagreements I have. I do agree with much of your opening talk though. "Bush Lied" - I consider myself sane and definitely believe he lied. Even if you try the 'he was mistaken' approach, he set up his OWN intelligence division to cherry pick the intelligence and bypass the usual channels. If he was really mistaken then he is incompetant. You don't tell people to find the in

Probably due to the metaverse. It's fairly important that all games submitted to the metaverse are under similar difficulty. Yes you chan edit the files and the AI's will make use of the new ships or buildings, but in reality it's so easy to unbalance the game by doing this. Perhaps if the metaverse only accepted unmodified game data or preapproved mods. Paul. ~SDC~

Have to agree on the point scoring. Playing at levels about genius should not score more points, just give the player the respect for scoring those points at such a hard level. As for a frogboy level, it would make it too much luck based. At the moment the difference between a good and a bad starting position in maso games is huge (but has no effect on score). Paul. ~SDC~

While I agree with much of the article, the author choose to ignore the serious stability concerns a free election may cause. In particular are the concerns about the minority populations. Without a legal framework of equality and protection of minority rights in place (which can only be effectively done with a constitution), there would be nothing stopping a majority government punishing the minorities in any way they saw fit. This is a major concern,

I believe that the beta will be available to all subscribers of Stardock's Drengin.net subscription service. Based on previous experience, They may also allow pre-orders to test the beta. Paul.

Standard problem. I've lived in many countries and I fild differences to this between cultures. For me, if a girl is Irish, American, or French then telling them works well as dating close is something they're comfortable with. English or German seem to be the opposite though. Most of my English friends shudder at the very thought of dating a friend. It's just not done. May just be my friends though <img src="../images/smiles/joke.gif" border=0 ALIGN="

No Brad, you don't play with facts. You play with your conclusions. Very important different. Assuming your facts are correct, CO2 emissions and drug use among teenager have both have decreased under Bush. These are facts and good things. Whether Bush is associated with them or not, does not change their impact or relevance. If you had claimed that Bush's polices caused these then someone may disagree, but even then the fac

Lunaticus, I agree with much of what you said. Not all though. It could be interesting to compare the American approach (as described by you) versus the British approach. In the UK the government choose to support the US and send troops to Iraq. As a nation we discussed and debated the decision but once made, the country was 100% behind the troops. The government however is a different issue. It has the right to make decisions and if we

Bit harsh on America. It's not that bad. To bring the thread back to topic... I believe Iraq did pose a threat to the US but indirectly. UK advisors informed the government that any Iraqi WDM were unlkikely to ever be used except in self defense (which the gov then omitted in it's public dossier, ops). I'm sure the US must have had the same info. Therefore they were NOT a threat. They were also beginning to comply w

Sounds excellent. Keep up the great work! Why do I get the impression that Cari is chuffed with fixing the invisible ship bug? Anyone else here ever fixed an annoying problem and then wanted to tell the world just to make sue they're appreciated? Well done Cari! We appreciate it big time!! Pau

Politicans ALWAYS manipulate public opinion. That's their job! There's a fine line between spin and lies though. A fine line that often moves around. People expect spin, they get upset when they are told lies. Just look at Nixon or Clinton for examples. Paul.

Lunaticus, please do post your opinions. Just because you believe they won't change peoples minds is not a good reason to withhold them. This forum is all about people posting their oppinions. Whether others agree or not doesn't matter, the topic in always enhanced by more views. as for statistics, they are extremely useful. They are facts, but not necessarily the whole truth. The more facts you have the bigger the picture you see. If

While I would also love a game that could be easily extended beyond the US, that would require lots more research and work, so I don't expect it. The more randomisation / scenarios the better for me though. I would love to try winning old contests based on the public opinions at the time. Imaging taking a current political figure and seeing if they could have won an election in 1950! Randomisation though is the key. I don't want to start the game every

Scores are lumped into monthly blocks backwards from your last submission. This means that if you submit a 1 point score a month after your last score, then your total score will increase by 1 point. If you submit a 1 point score within 1 month of any previous scores then your score for that month (which gets added to scores from previous months) will be the sum score from all games submitted within a month divided by the square root of the number of games. For example, Imagi
