No where in scriptures do I see that NOW the Christians are the chosen ones. Please either give me scriptural reference or retract this statement.
Gentiles were included with Israel as righteous converts. Numbers 15:29 address this. Gentiles were grafted in.
Before I even continue with this discussion I would like to have an answer to my request from post 139.
I apologize in advance that your short challenging question requires such long replies.
Israel became a “chosen” , a “special people” (Deut. 7) through a single person, Abram, selected by the Lord God. Abram was to be magnified his name being changed to Abraham, “the father of many nations”. Gen. 17:5. From Abraham came Isaac, whose son Jacob’s name was changed to Israel. Jacob was the father of the 12 sons who became the fathers of the 12 tribes of Israel. The children of Israel (later called Jews) where chosen by the Lord God to be the keepers, teachers and interpretators of His Law. This Law included a priesthood selected from the tribe of Levi; the selection of Judah as the tribe from which the promised Messias, the Son of David, would come to fulfill the Law.
The Jews were especially favored by being the chosen people from whom all the great prophets came, through whom the Lord God told the world of the great things that were to take place in Israel until “God Himself would come and save them.” Isa. 35:4; 40:10. The Jews were the only specially selected people in the world with whom the Lord God made a Covenant, a contract so to speak, in the days before the coming of the Messias as the Talmud says,
“All the prophets prophesied only to the days of the Messiah” (Sandh. 99a).
This Covenant was a bilateral contract, in the sense that the reward the Lord God promised would go to the “elect” IF they were faithful to His commands and prophecies. The Lord God told Moses to tell the Jews that---
“
If you will hear My voice and keep My covenant, you shall be My peculiar possession above all people.....and you shall be to Me a priestly kingdom and a holy nation.” Exodus 19:5-6.
Aside from the fact that the Jews are no longer a “priestly kingdom” (being without priests, sacrifices or temple ever since 70AD), there stands the command of Moses which they fail to obey that bars present-day Jews from calling themselves the Lord God’s “chosen people.” Moses command was that they listen to the “prophet” the Lord God would send, whom “thou shalt hear” Deut. 88: 4-5.
The prophet was to be not like Joshua whom Moses invested with the leadership of Israel; not like other prophets who functioned in Israel before the beginning of the Christian era, but like Moses. He was to be a mediator between man and the Lord God, but more excellent than Moses. Moses was a servant of the Lord, whereas He was to be the Lord Himself. David told of Him, as did Isaias and a host of others among the Lord God’s elect. IN the Psalms,
"
I (the Lord) have made a covenant with My chosen, I have sworn to David My servant: Thy seed will I establish FOR EVER, and build up thy throne TO ALL GENERATIONS” 89:3.
For while this throne of David was to be occupied by Solomon an earthly king, then, in the fullness of time, was to begin the reign of the “begotten” son of David, a spiritual king whose reign would continue “FOR EVER”.
Where can that throne of David be that was to last “for ever” save in the spiritual throne occupied by the Messias, the Son of David? The King of the Jews came, the priesthood, the sacrifices and temple of the Jews ceased to exist; there is no house of David in existence today in which a future Son of David can be born, being no longer needed, as the Abrahamic-Mosaic contract was fulfilled 20 centuries ago.
The claim of the Jews today, that they are the chosen people who, to quote Rabbi Lee J. Levinger, Director of Research Bureau, B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundation, have “an obligation to teach the entire world of the one God and the coming of the Messiah” is necessarily “a constant incitement to criticism.” (Anti-Semitism Yesterday and Tomorrow.” NY, 1936). Such a claim inferentially classifies Christians as dullards, for they harkening to the Prophet Moses told future generations “to hear” believe as St.Paul says that Christians are
“
all the children of God through faith in Jesus Christ (the Prophet of prophets). For all you who are baptized have put on Christ... You are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then are you the offspring of Abraham, heirs to the promise.” Galatians 3.
This is the basis that through Christ and in Christ we Christians are Abraham’s descendants. In this sense, we are all Semites spiritually. That’s the principle upon which St.Peter based his declaration, “
You (followers of the Messias) are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a purchased people.” 1St.Peter 2:9. So, here the ‘children of the promise” those who accept Jesus Christ as the Prophet Moses said should be heard, are the chosen people.
This is not in the least interpreted to mean that the Lord God has abandoned the present day Jews. The very existence of the Jews, despite persecutions to which they have been subject, proves that Almighty God “has not cast off His people” as St.Paul tells us Rom. 11. He patiently awaits their coming into His embrace.
Gentiles were included with Israel as righteous converts. Numbers 15:29 address this. Gentiles were grafted in.
As the greatest Jewish convert of them all, Saint Paul of Tarsus, teaches, “
there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Gal. 3:18.
Scripture speaks of the dramatic end of the Old Covenant and the beginning of the New and Eternal Covenant in the Blood of Christ. St.Paul teaches, Christ is the “seed” of Abraham and thus whoever is incorporated into Him, that is into His Mystical Body, inherits the promise the Lord God made to Abraham and becomes a member of Almighty God’s covenant people. The Scriptural teaching of this can be found by reading Galatians 3:16-17.
It makes it clear that the fulfillment of the promise the Lord God made to Abraham is seen in Christ, who is Abraham’s seed, not in the Law of Moses, for if salvation were by operation of the Mosaic Law, then it would not have come from the Lord God’s promise to Abraham. The purpose of the Law was to teach (to be a “pedagogue”) and to punish transgressions until Christ should come. The Law could not of itself give life, but it did prepare the way for the fulfillment of the promise of Abraham and the giving of grace and faith with the coming of Christ.
Since Christ, we are no longer under the Mosaic Law, the pedagogue. For now faith has come and the baptized who have faith in Christ are the children of the Lord God and the heirs of the Abrahamic covenant perfected in Christ. And while the Jewish people remain most dear to the Lord God for the sake of the patriarchal fathers, nevertheless because of unbelief they were broken off from the olive tree which is Christ. But,
‘if they abide not still in unbelief , shall be grafted in; for God is able to graft them in again.” Rom. 11:20-23, 28.
