I was playing a tiny, tough, abundant as good and got the notice that Lasitus III was going evil. I built colony ships & evacuated the system. Later it turned evil and the Draginol had Overlords in the field. I had a ranger, a few dreadnoughts and 4 full combat transports. I knew I was toast against the Overloads so I attacked the Draginol planet. But before I did this my ailing economy needed the infusion I usually get from a new minor. The new minor usually gets the tech you have bu

Theoden Thanks for the update in this thread and on your site. Does anyone know how much money triggers the cheat alert? I just finished a tiny, tough, abundant and one of my planets started to go evil. I evacuated the planet. The Draginol took it over. They came in like a usual minor having my techs my not my trade goods. I traded with the Draginol who gave me 100,000 for 100 months for six trade goods!!! It never turned yellow and I just stopped at 100,000 (or a million?) for

Cotal, good luck with ANZAC. We will miss you (and your scores) at FOTR. You are a very good player and help make the Gal Civ community work. Congrats on being a senator at ANZAC too. Also thanks for the tips on the terror stars as an end game ploy. I built a couple last night for the first time. They have great graphics and are quite effective. Not sure how I can remain "good" after using them but what the heck? LOL. OK, we FOTR folks need to post some games. Congrats to everyone who h

Obi Thanks for the tip. I was sending in the battle transports as they arrived. The Arceans had this extremely high defense factor, which I presume was all the planetary defense techs. I finally destroyed their navy and moved in the culture bomb starbases for a flip. Rick
I think GalCiv is still fun, even without combat, and I don't have to worry about abusing the fleet-defence bug as long as I play this way
I agree. I build warships for deterence and to protect me from sharks and pirates. Avoiding high starship maintenance boots economy. Plus, it is fun to culture flip opponents. Sometimes near the end, invading helps speed the game. Sometime, I am not number one and don't have a good navy. Then sometimes they get a big economy, 100 billi

In addition to the above you can a boost the score by setting all of the AI to pure evil and then becoming pure good. If you play on normal, you can still pretty much follow the GCCG by the above poster, EBZeroMatrix. The link is http://ebzeromatrix.tripod.com/ Just make sure you have fun. :) Rick [Message Edited]

Congrats on FOTR being first in the empire. I have completed my "tiny" experiment on playing a game on beginner, normal, challenging, tough, & painful. I played pure good against all pure evil AI. I tried to change very little other than what was necessary like building up a military deterence when I could no longer bankrupt the AI. On each, I got all the trade goods/wonders (on the last even got slaves & life force playing good by trading with Drengins). Similar to the experie

As per vincible . . . and the maintenance costs stack also. On your larger, more productive planets, it may be worth the maintenance to build all 3. The econ boost of the fusion & anti-matter may pay for the upkeep on high output planets. On lower class, low production planets, the small bump in manufacturing capacity may not be worth the maintenace. If you can't spend at 100% capacity then the manufacturing plant makes little sense and the fusion & anti-matter may not help much either

Regarding mods. I downloaded the mod to decrease the volume of the Drengin music. I created a new folder and put the "stock file" in there. Then I put the new downloaded file in the regular "stock folder" and it works fine. I sure wish there was a mod to increase planet events. Going good on a tiny map makes it hard to go pure and get trade centers until later in the game. Then finally the non planet event morale decisions can push one over 90. I like to be rich and get those ones that

Ray, you are amazing. That is so many levels above where I can ever dream of playing. LOL. Make sure you are taking notes so you can write "Ray's Gal Civ Strategy Guide for winning at crippling and maso levels". I, for one, would love to read it. I wanted to share another way with everyone on how to bump your metaverse score if you are playing good on 1.05. Just set all the major AIs to pure evil and play good. Several of us have done this and the preliminary increase in mpts is roughly

dac I only know the specifics of your second paragraph. If the social queue is set to "nothing" then the money is wasted or as some say "used for maintenance". LOL. Maybe some of the information you seek in the first paragraph shows on the planet display and when you click on details. Good luck. Rick

I agree with the above about playing good v. pure evil AI. I played 3 tiny evil and got around 10k. I just finihsed 1 tiny good and did nothing different but play good vs. all pure evil AI and got > 12k. This is roughly a 20% improvement in mpts, all else being roughly equal. Simply amazing. LOL. Whoops, I just found Black Shade's post on EBZ's thread http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=87200#87434 & I think it answers my question. Rick ------------------------ #21 by Citizen Black_Shade - 8/17/2003 6:39:03 PM ok.... great guide, very helpful. Now im not sure if this is different in 1.09, but in 1.05, allignment adds a whole crapload of points. I cant get the bonus for evil for some reason, but if i set all the computer's to pure evil, and i ta

Thanks Black Shade, I may try that. What happens if you are evil and the you make all the AI pure good? Do you still benefit? Anyone know what sort of point bump you get? I get 10k on tiny, beginner, pure evil so I am guessing the alignment change is why you got 11k and that is about a 10% bump. Maybe we can test that. LOL. It is interesting, learning new ways to pancake block the computer, and get a decent metaverse score, but mostly to have fun. I look forward to goi

I installed directX 9.0b and a new nVidia driver both from the Microsoft website using Internet Explorer under Tools and Windows Update. I am not sure it helpd my CTD but I found one thing that did help. If I hit the return key while the tech tree or planet screen are open I get more CTD then if I close all screens before ending the turn. If I close screens and then use the mouse pointer to click on turn instead of hitting return or if I use the space bar to end the turn, I seem to get less CTD

To get the best game scores, turn off all victory conditions and win a military victory. Whether you blast all the aliens to bits or culture flip all the major aliens' planets still counts as a military victory - just make sure to turn off that culture and tech victory and don't make alliances. To get higher scores, research all the tech. In my experience this adds 20% or so to your score. In addition to this there seems to bonuses for population, society, and economy. I have found that

Alex I read a comment from somewhere that it is easier to play good on big maps/many planets because of the trade advantages. But, it is easier to play evil on small maps/few planets because those fewer planets make the "per planet" bonues (bump PQ, production, morale, etc.)more attractive. Having played big & small, I think this is true but I am still checking it out. LOL. Rick

I feel funny giving you advice since you got a 20k painful gigantic and I can't seem to hit 20k. LOL. You might tell us what you are doing differently from that game that you played so well. You might consider a little more diplomacy to start with but I agree with the speed pick on gigantic. Are you playing evil instead of good like you played before? That can change AI opponents' attitude toward you. Sometime you just have one of those games when everyone capitulates to the s

And to add to what Ray said . . . The cultural modules exert a 100% effect in the sector and 20 or 25% effect in adjacent sectors (I can't recall which LOL). For example, one completely decked out culture mod starbase will give +343% influence in the sector with the starbase and about +70% to +85% influence bump in adjacent sectors. You can build lots of starbases. Rick [Message Edited]

H50, did you try resubmitting that anomalous? I just got an anomalous without any mods and then when I reloaded, refinished, and resubmitted the correct score of 12000 showed up (like there had never been a problem). Just a reminder to everyone to resubmit the anomalous if there is a glitch. Ray, you are amazing. Have you ever organized your strategy tips into a Word Document or something that could be posted on a web page? Thanks for all of your help and enthusiasm. Rick

I just got one those anomalous scores without any mods. I reloaded the game, refinished it, and resubmitted it, the metaverse anomalous vanished and correct score of 12000 was listed. Thanks to whoever said an anomalous can be some sort of electronic glitch (even without mods). I was pretty annoyed at first, especially since I played without any mods, but it worked out when I resubmitted. So make sure everyone resubmits the game a few times before giving up. Good luck all. :) Rick

I don't know what "best" is but I usually take the Federalists because I like the +20 econ bonus. Some culture-bomb players like populists and some militarists prefer the war party. Each has its own flavor. Once you pick your party where do you put the extra 10 points? Diplomacy is always nice to have. On large, huge, gigantic maps speed bonuses are nice for both colony rush and military advantages. On tiny and small, speed may not be as big an issue but the +5 PQ bonus is nice because

Thanks for replies. I updated to directX 9.0b and a nVidia driver that Microsoft recommended on the Update Windows Tools part of MS Internet Explorer. It only CTD with the Ddhelp message twice today so maybe it is better? LOL Actually with the save every 2 turns it is not so bad to reboot but among all the games I have played on this machine (last 3 years), Gal Civ has the most CTD and lock-ups. But, I am not complaining because Gal Civ is a lot of fun. :) Rick

Thank you EBZ. I had a chance to play 2 games today, one on small and one on tiny with scores of 10570 and 10580 respectively. It was fun. OK, you wanted some comments so I took notes while I read the strategy guide and while I played. You might want to run the web pages through a spellcheck because you spelled Theory "Theroy". I didn't see anything else. Under Rule#1 you say, " . . I use a side rule of never selling anything else, because they don't need it". Do you
