Today on 1.05, I tried building two manufacturing capitals in two different planets that would each finish in 3 turns. One planet got the it and the other got nothing so at least for manufacturing capitals this does not work in 1.05. Rick
And in the games where i had it the most, i didnt destroy any colonies (the only reason i can see to do this is if im changing my allignment, which isnt necessary on the larger maps)
Today I played a medium, tough, common, tight cluster. I was hemmed in East and West by the Yor and Alterian and by the map edge in the north. In the South I did not have the range to get to two yellow stars until I colonized a PQ 8 planet on the border. Then with the extra range from coloniz

Thanks. Trade goods are different than wonders and so my initial idea of lumping them together is only applicable at lower level games where one can totally dominate the computer and get all the trade goods plus wonders. At higher levels it appears to be better to look at trade good differently because you can . . . uh . . . "trade" for them. LOL. Then decide which ones to prioritize. It might be diplo, grav acc, t-s steel as early priorites and guide book, hyper comp, pain amp and mayb
For those of us interested in the new scoring, I have reloaded all 12 of my 1.091 games under 1.092. Black Shade I changed the color setting like you suggested and the last two games have only had one CTD each, which is nice. Also Ray the Wanderer mentioned that if one destroys his/her own colonies then that can cause a CTD in 1.05 but appears better in 1.09. After I play some more I can be more certain but in my last two games there certainly were no 6 CTD per day like there was before. When I upgraded the directX from 8 to 9 and got a newer driver for my video card, those di

Please share how you approach trade good & wonders (TG/W). After 40+ games, I still don't have this down and would like to hear what others do. OK. I will start with my oberservations and opinions. TG/W add points to your score if you discover them, adds nice bonuses to things like diplomacy, growth rate, influence, etc. and sometimes it is necessary to keep certain TG/W away from one's opponent. The first two the AIs go for are diplomatic translators and aphrodesiac. They will

str77 When you start your trade route your big freighter becomes a tiny little freighter that shuttles between the freighter's original planet and the trading partner. You want your trade boosting starbases in the sector where the tiny freigher spends the most time. I try to build freighters from my wealthiest planet and send it to wealthy planets of AIs that are least threatening especially minors. I hate to make my major opponents rich by trading with them but opinion varies

Ray, Congrats on the 30k game. I have never seen one of those. Wowza!!! Vincible & HF0 keeping winning on crippling and maso. You two should be ahead of me if the metaverse ranking is based on skill. That would also pull the FOTR score up right? ;) In the mean time, I will see if I can keep popping out those 14k Small, tough, games. They are really fun to me so I just play what I have the most fun on that week. LOL. Welcome to the new FOTR members and thanks for join

Gerakken Spymaster This is very interesting. Of the highest metaverse ranking about a third play maso/crippling; about a third play painful/tough/challenging; and the other third play normal or below. Throughout the discussions about low difficult level cranking and anomalous games, the question remains, "What makes for the best metaverse"? I joined meta after I read that the developers might use the metaverse to make the game better. After that, the competition seemed

Tonight it happened right after I destroyed an Arcean planet with a terror star. Poof . . . reboot the machine . . . load from the last save . . . try again. This time it worked without a CTD and I was able to finish the game. Doh!!! LOL. Rick

Thanks for the comments. I didn't get the Draginol today so had to budget my endgame. LOL. Ray, both times they had overlords within striking range of my fleets/planets/starbases but they did not do anything since I eliminated the Draginol colony on the same turn I fleeced them. I was a little nervous about this because I had only dreads & rangers. Since no one will comment about the cash, I will guess that ending the game at under a million bc is pretty safe. Rick

Hi all Finally broke 100,000. Congrats to FOTR for being #1. Happy to read about the scoring changes for the new release. Making the higher difficult levels score much higher metaverse points seems fair and invites new strategies. Also in the future anomalous scores may be visible before posting, which would be good. Ray, don't take too much time off. LOL. Rick [Message Edited]

Hairy I think getting one event in 15 planet colonizations is not unusual. On my tiny games, I often don't get an event with colonization. It is later in the game when running through tech tree and social tree that those random events pop up (the meteors, the plague, and those blasting cyborgs, etc.) that I get my events that propel me toward good. It is easier to go evil. Those darn interacting with pirates screens and others rarely get anyone one goodie point but might easily net 10 b

I got the evil Draginol event two games in a row. Those nasty villians must like me. LOL. Again they appeared with several overlords but only two dreads in orbit around the solitary star system. Again they had way more bc than any other minor - exactly 142,125. LOL. I traded them six trade goods (aphro, frictionless, harmony crystals, virtual reality mods, ultra spices, and regenerators) and could have gotten all 142,125 bc for 10 billions turns - it was still green LOL. I too

On my v1.05 my CTD can happen any time I hit the return key or space bar or mouse button. It is worse if I don't close windows between turns. For example hitting the turn button with a window open seems to be the most common and predictable way to get a CTD. Rick

I have posted earlier about my frequent CTD and wondered if it was related to using DirectX 8 or an older nVidia graphics card driver. Well, I updated each (directX 9 and the nVidia driver) and don't think anything has changed. I bought Gal Civ from amazon.com, installed the disk (don't recall what verson that was 1.0?). I played a few games to learn, found the forum, read the strategy guides, downloaded stardock and upgraded to 1.04. I don't recall many CTD with 1.04 but didn't play ma

vincible, do you think it depends on how much cash the minor has? And the player can give cash to the minor and get back more cash than s/he gave? At above normal levels? This is news to me. In this case, the Draginol came in with 100,000 plus cash which totaly surprised me because the new minors usually come in with 490 to 500 bc in the bank. Theoden, I always forget to thank you for your FOTR newsletter which is very nice and especially helpful at this time. I hope you are correct abo

MP Playing v1.05. I had never seen that much money before, wondered if it was a bug, and was worried about the dreaded anomalous score. Anyone else dealt with the Draginol? Plus, what sort of ending cash amount will trigger an anomalous? Glad to hear that 2.6 million won't for a v1.05. Usually I don't have much cash at the end but when the Draginol got generous, I got greedy. LOL. Rick

StBlasius Selling tech for money sounds like good strategy to me when you can get it. I have played painful before and you don't get very much cash for trading tech with majors. I doubt if you racked up tons of money throughout the entire game to feed your tech race and I bet you had to trade with the minors a bit for some cash. To me, this is just surviving on painful. If you got an anomalous for this, you might try resubmitting. Sometimes the internet connection fails and you have to

The P*ssed thread is very interesting and Frogboy's comments were helpful. The harder games need more metaverse points per game and the lower difficulty scores need less points per game. If you are dedicated enough then a decent gamer can still overtake a great gamer who rarely posts a game but we are talking right now about the actual metaverse points per game expressed as a degree of difficulty. It was interesting to try the GCCG and there are some good strategies that can be brought
