Scoring changes in 1.092

We expect to go up with GalCiv 1.092 either today or tomorrow on Drengin.net (it's still the beta of the expansion pack).

Amongst other things, scoring is being tweaked.

A player playing at beginner would have a base of 4.1 points in the current beta.  In the new one it'll be 3.6 points. It's basically the same.

Where changes show up is at the higher levels.

Someone playing at painful would go from a base of 13.7 points to a base of 20 points. That's a significant change.

Someone playing at masochistic would go from 25 points to 49 points (nearly double).

The difference between beginner and masochistic will have been changed from it being a 6X advantage to nearly 14X advantage.

The goal isn't to punish beginner games (hence why they are worth about the same) but to reward players playing at the higher levels much more significantly.

Will this scoring change be retroactively changed for previous submitted games or will it be only for new submits with 1.092? If not then it would give a bonus to people who keep their old save games and then could resubmit games for more points. But either way, I'm for the change since I'm playing more on smaller maps now, and I didn't see a very big point difference between different difficulty levels that should reflect the differences in playing difficultly.

That's a good question. We just went through a Metaverse recalc. Are you planning on doing it again, or will it be like the differences between 1.03 and 1.05, where players will have to resubmit old games to get the better scores?

Or...is this just going to be put on hold until the XPack officially comes out?

Great.

Do you have any idea how long it will be before the expansion is released to everyone?
