The reluctance of Stardock personnel to fix crank anomolies and the new score adjustment dinging the difficulty crankers prefer have helped deter the practice.
Just wanted to clarify. From what I have read there is really no "dinging the difficulty crankers prefer". So far little change has been reported in the scoring of 1.05 compared to 1.092 other than a 10 to 15% bump in crippling with 1.092 and a much higher bump of metaverse scores in masochistic 1.092. I haven't re

Alex You have a lot of games submitted and deserve a Drengin virtual hug for that so maybe that is part of the promotion. But, there are probably other factors we haven't considered. Keep submitting games Alex and you will make top 25 soon. :D Rick
All vice admirals have made over 100k points *and* have played at least 48 games (I am the lowest game count at 48). Some over 100k points but under 48 games are not vice. arobertson, you might scan for Rear Admirals and see what is common in the score . . . or we can wait and someone might tell us or figure it out. LOL. Rick
I don't know the answer except: 1. some mods only add to the fun, for example the mod that lowers the drengin music volume to the same volume as the others is great. I use it without any other changes. Some mods will not impact game score and will not impact metaverse submissions. 2. if you add mods that increase planet quality or give you wads of cash and try to submit that game to the metaverse, you run the risk of getting an anomalous score of zero. Thus, the game counts aga
A belated congrats on the one million mark. :) Rick
Welcome Gordoleth. Good luck WileyCoyote. Thanks for the reply vincible - sure would like to see you submit a game, especially on maso. Ray, I saved some games on tough so will do the recalcs in about 10 days when we get 1.1. From Theoden's earlier comments it sounds like little has changed from challenging level. Well this is the closet my logo, rank, medals, bars, face, and other paraphernalia will ever be to Ray's. I better memorize it. LOL. FOTR & GROSS are really
I have always wanted to be an admiral of vice. LOL. Thanks Stardock for the new wrinkle. Rick
Wiley is playing painful and it sounds like you have transports but not battle transports right? Vincible, does he then send transports to visit the Torians and something to handle the garrison ships? Will the Torians leave their planets undefended or does he risk a battleaxe (or only defenders?) Wiley only has corvettes now - does he need frigates or will the USS Hero work? This "create wars and launch a surprise alpha attack on the warring planets" is new to me but sounds interesting. Please g
When I started I got whooped too. Then I came to forum and found the link to the Orion Strategy Guide: http://www.orionsector.com/pages/galciv/downloads/The_Unofficial_GalCiv_Strategy_Guide_v1_0.pdf A second link you may find helpful is EBZeroMatrix's Gal Civ Cranking Guide (GCCG) at http://ebzeromatrix.tripod.com/. There have been reports GCCG can deliver an anomalous score on the metaverse because you whip the AI so bad. But, if you get that good, you can move up to normal. LOL. <
Gerraken Thanks. This is interesting. It makes me feel like less of a dork mostly playing at a tough level (level 7). Of the 9 maso players not all are active (like Staffa) so maso players are not common. In my opinion, they deserve the metaverse point bump in 1.09.
Preferred difficulty has definitely jumped upward

Intersting...I wonder if his has anything to do with the GCCG trouble?
Theoden, I think it has partially. No one like
Thanks Brian. I am sure some of my CTD is ME that I haven't reloaded since January but it seems strange it happens with no other software than Gal Civ. Rick
Played a whole large game yesterday without a CTD. That is a record. Today had 2 CTD in a large game. This is definitely better. Rick
Theoden Congrats on the top 50. I have heard nothing about any changes that will impact scores at tough level. Ray did some recalcs showing crippling went up about 15% and maso went up a lot (who knows how much because of the 30K cap but a lot more than 15%). I asked in another thread (one started by frogboy) about any changes in challenging, tough, & painful but got no response. The impression I got from frogboy was there would be little change except on maso and to a lesser degree on
Well done Theoden. :) Rick
Solitair deserves it with winning seven or so maso games in the last week. If he keeps it up, he will climb to #2 or #3 on the big board. Congrats if you read this Solitair. I am having lots of fun trying to just change one variable each game. Lately it has been changing habitable planet quality. I used to always play abundant but am trying to gradually decrease habitable planets and every few turns enlarge the map. My machine is slower than I like between turns with big maps and lots
I can verify that the mod to turn down the drengin music (so it is the same volume as the others) works fine and has not yielded an anomalous in over 40 games. Good luck. :) Rick
On the turn you build the terror star, it has no movement or 0/1. The next turn it will have 1/1 and you can move it one. If you are right next to a colonized star belong to a race you are at war with, you should be able to move it one (on top of the star system) and totally destroy the star system, inhabitants, and ships. It works for me. Good luck. Rick
I use Ford only for things I want that are common to all my planets. You maually add the trade goods or wonders or achievements in the big builder planet(s). If you go to morale in the planets list you can see what planets need the morale boosters. Some need more but some need less so you can save money. I like using the one governor, especially on games with more planets (like Ray said), but when I tried multiple governors, it was too much hassle, IMO. Good luck. :) Rick
On another thread was discussed a bug on earlier editions of the game where one might build two trade goods or wonders if they were due to finish on the exact same turn (so it would be a "tie" between you and the computer AI for example to get galactic stock exchange so you both get it). For those of us with 1.05 or later, this does not seem to occur. In other words, it has been fixed. You can download 1.05 today and take care of this issue. Rick
Also one can open the file with Wordpad and it might look like this: Stardock SmartException Logging Information ------------------------------------------- OS Version : Windows ME Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600 Application Exception code: C0000094 INT_DIVIDE_BY_ZERO Crash Addr: 004E9433 01:000E8433 C:\GAMES\STRATEGY FIRST\GALACTIC CIVILIZATIONS\GALCIV.EXE Processor Registers (x86): EAX:00000000 EBX:83A0515C ECX:00000023 EDX:00000
I did searches on SmartException and Smart Exception and most of the posts are old. This looked like the best one telling how to use it. Anyone care to update this or post a new thread? Thanks. Rick
As per vinicible. Also in 1.05 if you destroy colonies at any time get ready for a crash to desktop (CTD). CTD may not happen all the time but colony destroying is high risk for CTD in 1.05 and may create an unstable save game file. Unfortunately, I know this from experience when I use the low PQ planets as range extenders for colonization, then destroy the colony. Often I get a CTD so I have to save the game and then get lucky. Rick [Message Edited]
Wiley Coyote If you wish you can colonize a low PQ planet to extend range. Then grab the yellows you want. Then destroy the low PQ colony immediately after it has served your needs. You may want to save the game before you destroy the colony because sometimes this causes a crash to desktop. I don't know what is best to do for you at this moment but found using the colony ship and a low pq planet last game to help me extend my range yielded 2 more yellows and 5 planets that I tr
Thanks CariElf. We just attach the SmartException file to an e-mail to you right? I did that and it didn't bounce so I hope it got to you. I have updated directX and video drivers but forgot to update any sound driver so I wil go do that. Thanks again. :D Rick
Thanks Ray. :) Rick
