Good points, hadn't thought about that (lack of info submitted).

I wonder how many resubmitted scores are going to get an anomolous tag.....hmmm

Resubmitted games won't be a problem: the save game includes several files that serve no purpose but to log things that are needed to calculate the score and identify potential flaws or game editing.

Retroactive score changes would only be doable if all of that data is transmitted to the Metaverse.

Just for some historical perspective in deference to our newer members, I was on the recalc side before and my side basically lost.

The basic points of contention: Scoring standard should be set and then every game ever submitted be recalculated to that standard.

Counterpoint: The difficulty thresholds had been changed from version to version so that maso (or whatever level at the time in whatever version we are talking about) is now different. Therefore, one cannot recalc everything to one standard because the levels are no longer the same.

Rebuttal: Have the recalc script take the level differences into account by version so that each version gets redone properly.

The end result: Too much work. Old version scores will be compensated for in some other way.

Gerakken's rambling about resubmit madness: I will never do a cross-version resubmit to tweak score. That is against my principles. The worst I have ever done in that regard was finish a game started in an earlier version. There was a couple of cases in v1.03 where I could not even resume the save game because of bugs and had to wait until a later version to finish them. (The infamous political party and "homeless ship" bugs.) There has also been a couple of times where I deliberately submitted a game under an earlier version because a new version had just been released and I was not going to risk upgrading and playing under new rules mid-game. There. My cheese is on the table as well.

Good overview Gerakken. Spelled out like a true spymaster.

One further point I'd like to make on resubmiting of scores: Since each score can only be resubmitted one time, this ensures that the resubmit manouver cannot be abused. The 2 games I resubmitted cannot be further tweaked if & when the scoring scheme is adjusted again. To me this illustrates that it is not an unreasonable or unfair tactic.

Gerakken, I notice that you do not always go for the military win, you don't crank games at a beginner level... so it is clear to me that getting a high score is not your priority. I do admire your determination to play by a higher set of principles than the metaverse itself requires.

About how big will the final download be and will the servers be able to handle all the downloads? Just curious.

couslee, there is a difference between a Metaverse recalc and resubmitting games. The score you get from a game is based on the scoring formula that is coded in the game. When a recalc occurs, it is my impression that the submitted scores are adjusted by the degradation formula, etc.So these are actually two different things. By resubmitting the score, the game actually rescores your game based on the new formula supplied by the beta/Xpack.I could be totally wrong, here, but that was my impression of how things go on here

You are right. At least for the first recalc and nerf of scores. They do a time degradation everyso often as well.

I don't anticipate that a recalc would involve subjecting all old games to the new algorithm.

what i'm on about is that if ppl don't upgrade from 1.05 or any other released version when the xpack comes out ot any further updates then their scores will not be calculated at the same rate as thost running the latest release.. be it higher or lower scores.. I'm not after big scores.. just a level playing field for allIf you still can't follow what i mean i'll try to break it down more.. but i don't really want to go into giving example figures as they are really irreliventThe only way that i can see that happening is they way i suggested... where the metaverse modifies submitted scores when you submit them.. no mater what version you are running...
End of quote

I think we all understand where you are coming from, and I agree. But ours is not a perfect metaverse.
I don't know whether it's possible to modify the scores like that. I think the formula goes through at our end with the download and the version. I think they can do a fudge factor by version at their end (like they did on 1.044) But I don't know if they would do one just for certain type games (and only certain type games are different scoring on the new version)

Although I might wait untill the real version comes out non beta... Who knows. It might get even better. Then all these suckers who upgraded too quickly will be out in the cold..... I can see a game theory article coming..... Yes!!!!!!!!!

For those of us interested in the new scoring, I have reloaded all 12 of my 1.091 games under 1.092. The results are as follows:

Calkwalk 1.091/1.092 scores
15610/15360

Crippling 1.091/1.092 scores
Game 1 - 19670/22810
Game 2 - 20160/23300
Game 3 - 20390/23730
Game 4 - 20600/23730
Game 5 - 20970/24060
Game 6 - 21290/24430

Maso 1.091/1.092 scores
Game 1 - 26140/30000
Game 2 - 24690/30000
Game 3 - 25780/30000
Game 4 - 24610/30000
Game 5 - 23490/30000

Calkwalk scores seem untouched but the patch readme did say that the harder difficulties are tweaked, not the lower ones.

On average my crippling games increased in score about 15%. However, 1.092 crippling scores are still lower than the 24-25k scores that I have gotten under 1.05.

Thanks Ray the Wanderer. The crippling getting a nice boost and the maso getting a big boost makes sense. You crip/maso players deserve it. LOL

Anyone calculated the changes for the rest of the levels particularly for challenging/tough/painful? Thanks.
