Wut-wut? Mapgen rebalance? Till then I really liked DT/Yerand's idea about asking for a reroll pre-found. Unfortunately, at the moment this is the only way to overcome mapgen shenanigans which are almost unbearable in FFA let alone in 1v1. As I mentioned many times before I also think our perception of scientific OP'ness is skewed by sci god spots on every map. Let's talk about it once the frequency of their appearance becomes more reasonable.

Seilore First of all thank you for creating this thread. Hopefully it will allow other struggling players to realize that this game can be extremely newbie unfriendly and that they are not alone. And while the learning curve is steep to begin with, the transition from single player to multiplayer is so much steeper. It doesn't help that default sett
Jaiwera, do I have to put irony alert in every post? :) Scavenger used to be the go to HQ type for many top players while scientific was garbage with scav god mode spots everywhere and the same strong BM. Now these spots got replaced by sci god mode spots and BM not only less effective (to say the least) vs sci but is also weak half of the time. The result - sci became the new go to HQ. Unsurprisingly. I said this is the past and will probably keep saying this in the future - it
Maybe it has something to do with every map having 'Soren' spot (adjacent iron and water) and seldom anything else, which grants Soren an auto win. Just a thought...
Haha, that is a good point. I watched a lot of videos before even deciding to buy the game (and grinded skirmishes before trying MP). Perhaps simply a disclaimer that beating the AI on Executive is a good sign you're ready for MP? Because we need warm bodies, but I have to agree that it isn't fun for anyone to stomp a new player.
It's not even a good sign you're ready for MP. It only means you have
Hm... Perhaps it has something to do with specific timestamp then. We'll have to wait for Soren and Co to get back from holidays to clarify.
When a friend asked me what it takes to start playing MP, I honestly told him to wait until he can beat the AI on Executive level 100% of the time. That's just the way the game is. Tutorials won't cut it. I am hopeful they'll get better, but they only can teach you how to use the UI and basic game mechanics. They can't teach you strategy. For strategy new players must be forced to watch at least 50hrs of Zultar's/Cubit's/Pb's/Soren's videos and have a test in t
Your graphics card is very weak and outdated. I recommend updating the driver first. If that doesn't help (which is most likely), go to Steam folder --> steamapps\common\Offworld Trading Company and try to run the game via OffworldD3D9.bat file.
I am not sure if this was necessarily due to finishing on Sol 1. Sometimes daily records just don't register. I complained about that a while ago. I don't know what's the current status of this issue. but happened to me many times in the past.
My point was that sharing power (or power + life support) is not gonna cut it. It doesn't change the fact you can take a huge amount of debt without negative consequences for your team. You will make money slowly overall, but the problem, as I see it, stands. I really dislike the 'sweatshop' concept. IMO, the team should be as strong as its weakest link. Sharing debt (and perhaps stock as well) will actually punish all teammates if some can't keep up, rather than just extend t
Maybe it's just me, maybe it's the luck of the draw or maybe the map gen has changed significantly. But it seems like adjacent iron and water are much more common now and good scav spots are pretty rare. Wasn't like this before. The main problem with scavenger (and that's how it's always been) is the lack of money early on. Both aluminum and carbon tank pretty fast. Combine that with unfavorable black market and the h
Scientific has always been fuel efficienct when played and placed properly. Even if the buildings are dispersed, you are shipping larger volumes of 2nd tier resources. instead of shipping 20 iron per shipment, you are shipping 40 steel (80 iron) per shipment. Far less fuel consumed even if shipped from a distance. Scientific shipping runs into problems on electronics/glass which utilizing shipping both directions, but that can be wor
I think production screen as addition to other graphs and charts will be pretty useful. I find mouseovers somewhat inconvenient, but that's just a matter of personal preferences. What I would like to have, though, is a shortcut to all different screens, or at least those that matter - bm, techs, resources and summary. And on a similar note, a shortcut for toggling auto selling power would be super-uber awesome! :)
I haven't played with all the new changes at all, so can't make any deep (or any period, to be honest) analysis. But in my opinion, the mechanics that encourages teaming up and doesn't allow players to defend themselves is just wrong. I feel that once again it's balanced (using the term loosely here) around the same 20 give or take experienced players and this is not a very healthy approach. It would be fair (um... almost) to say that if you got knocked out by them, you probab
I'm going to disagree that all the HQ's are balanced at the moment. Scientists have a clear advantage based on the double fuel cost change in beta 8 and 9. Why do you think that 9 times out of 10 the scientific spot is the first one founded and people take on all that debt?
Because Soren is obsessed with scientific HQ + Teleportation? :P Btw, science + teleportation has always been the thing. Now TP's ad
Another reason this favors the scientist is because they don't have to ship resources out to their claims only back to the colony and if you're planting say steel mills or glass furnaces away from you're base rather than mines you have to ship resources much less frequently and definitely spent much less fuel dollar for dollar shipping resources.
Actually, it's the opposite. Your statement is corre
Indczn posted a pretty extensive spreadsheet some time ago. http://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TTBSBI95C1vhax-jVFCCBu-kyWsnnoWqWvEGOOwvm1c/edit#gid=1677077146 I'm not sure if he keeps it up to date, but in any case it's better than nothing.
Why does everyone always look for a good science spot first though?
On top of what Cubit said, I think the adjacent iron and water areas are by far the easiest to spot visually so they draw immediate attention. Personally, I prefer expansive and scavenger over scientific or robotic, and as of now scientific is my least favorite faction. I don't think they are overpowered at all. I think a good balance has been
Well it depends a lot on the other players and how they play, along with your own strategy. If they're robotic, making fuel is kinda worthless. If they have only 1 distant building and it's for aluminium (such as if they're scientific) the difference on fuel price is not enough to change the outcome. If your ahead in upgrades then food still has the higher base price, so if you want to grab funds early it's still better. I
Everything is a bit funky with too many robots. On a map infested with robots you might as well skip water based resources at first and go with glass instead. Perhaps, my question should've been which deficit is more painful nowadays - the power or the fuel? If I take your word for debt diving becoming more frequent, I have to assume that fuel deficit is the culprit? Or is it really both? Getting geos up and running at lvl 2 is not very easy or maybe even realistic. It's not unco
Um... I haven't played a single game post patch, nor properly watched em - mostly lurking here and there while missing all the important parts. So this is more of a question than anything else. Is there any reason to build farms at lvl 2-3? Sounds like reactors will have the edge every time.
Rumors suggest the fuel costs/power consumption for robotic transport doubled. Shipping costs are one of the main contributors to debt.
What's no buyout mode mean?
You can't buy out your opponents, only their stock. Once a person doesn't own any of their own stock they are eliminated from the game and become subsidiary. I'm sure it will be further explored in tomorrow's stream. So come and check it out!
Oh yeah yeah guilt trip me into fnishing the series [e digicons]:P[/e]
Don't bother Blackmagic! You won't be thanked for that in the next thank you thread. [e digicons]:|[/e] And yeah, I absolutely second everything you said.
Am I the only one with cognitive dissonance here? Wino is only 3 games short...
