Not for your Sovereign - they can cast any spell regardless of INT. So the only negative effect is spells that use INT to calc damage.
Or calc defense, in the case of stone skin. (25% INT) Stone Skin is the only magic spell that adds to defense, and defense is the m
Reading what you've all written just made me think of something that I don't remember reading someone else mention yet.(if it has been mentioned then sorry I missed your post)... we can summon familiars and other creatures... why can we not summon a mount? More specifically... a flying mount. Hum to point this back towards this threads topic... I should be able to magically endow my Sov with wings (wether angelic,
INT is basically useless. CHA is good for a champion that'll be sitting in a city all the time, but if you want your sovereign to move about, its value drops. And you can drop it all the way down to 5 for no penalty; just a forfeiture of gain. That stuff can go into combat stats and useful traits. Also spell books. Personally, I find the Combat book to be pointless, and Enchantment to be pointless once you get a decent cashflow going (thus making
To the opening post's comment... Leg Armor is better than +1 movement for soldiers. The movement won't help in combat. If you're concerned about movement, get a champion and raise their intelligence enough so that they can cast teleport. (Or, use your sovereign.) That being said, I update my pioneers to wear traveler's boots. They cost a little more, but they get to their destinations faster.
I've used it to cut myself off from a couple AIs who were menacing me in order to have space to cast the spell of making. I've raised land to provide a pathway around a rival empire's territory to a place I wanted to found a city. I've cleared paths through mountains for caravans. They're actualy pretty useful spells for misc. work. I'm still waiting to hear what revive and desecrate do though.
See my post here...
As I mention in my sov thread, be sure to take Cowardly (spell resistance penalty) and Stupid (increased cost of learning spells). Both penalties do nothing in 1.1/1.11, and you get 13 free points. EDIT: Also, please feel free to look at my sov thread (link posted earlier) and comment on anything I've written. I wouldn't mind integrating second opinions.
The volcano spell has a 5-square range. If going to war against an AI who can cast this spell, scout your borders and wipe out any champions you see. It takes a champion with INT>36 for them to cast it (unless their Sovereign casts it).
Since you can't teleport into enemy area, and you can't terraform into enemy area how would the AI be able to get in? Can you terraform enemy territory if your at war?
You can teleport into the enemy area, but you need to use Call of the Titans. (I mention this in my Faction/Sovereign FAQ.) The AI just doesn't consider this option, either. In my opinion, this would
Intelligence for Sovereigns affects damage from Arcane Arrow (50% INT) and Spell Blast (30% INT). Stone Skin provides defense based on caster INT (25% INT). I usually load up my Sovereign on INT because I use those spells, but you don't have to do that. You only need one champion with a high INT for these spells.
I tried this strategy on 1.1d, and the AI never lowered my mountain or sent boats. In regard to alternate ways to win, I sure hope the AI doesn't try to win by questing or spellcasting. Both ways give no indication that you are about to lose.
if you research some of the adventure and domination techs, you will uncover more goodie huts. sometimes those goodie huts are the lv0 battlefields that generate the midnight stones. but yes, you can end up with no midnight stones to trade. too bad you cannot mug enemy champions and steal their stones...
We aren't proving your point in any way, since the strategy of the game can be summed up in a thread with ease. Hardly something that warrants a subforum. Edit: I'm not trying to sound obstructionist here. You seem to think that there aren't any strategy posts because there isn't a subforum. I think there isn't a subforum because there aren't many strategy posts. I would welcome a discussion if there was something that was u
I hate to say it, but you guys are proving my point. I think the game has strategy merit, but it doesn't sound like it's an interesting topic to you. Fair enough. I could spend my time bashing a game that needs bashed too, or I could leave it to my betters in the vocal minority and instead spend my time finding ways to exploit and/or win efficiently. I'm just asking for a little corner of Stardock server space to do that in. :)
I mean, yea, I could create a topics there that says, Holy cow, every AI nation has declared war on me, how do I counter...wait, they are not even sending troops...infact, 200 years(not turns) have passed and they have sent nothing more than an occasional pioneer at me. So, uh...how could I counter that? I simply don't care to fight a war, I am just sittting around building cities, not even building an army, becasue, really, why should
Why does Elemental not have a strategy forum? Many here would say, "Because it doesn't take strategy to win the game!" I ask because I've been warming to 1.1 over the past 2 weeks. I went from being on the fence, to harshly critical, to accepting and optimistic. My work on documenting faction and sovereign creation hints at that. Unfortunately, we currently don't have a forum to discuss game strategy. We only have General, and that gets
sorry for sounding ignorant... but who is trip?
The demo should give you enough of a taste to see what I'm talking about in regards to percentages.
When in doubt, try the demo... Demo Link
GalCiv 2 is a love-hate game. If you don't mind being in a universe where everything is a percentage increase, you may like GalCiv2. If you like games that unlock new features and abilities as you play (MoO, MoO 2, MoM), you will not like GalCiv2.
I've finished documenting the sovereign traits. I'm now working on the comments/ratings.
Look on the bright side... They didn't decide to hire anyone from Quicksilver.
I agree with all of this. I also hate how you can't tell if a square can be passed through. Other Civ-like 4x'ers did this right. Why can't Elemental?
I'm not a fan of this spell. The last thing I need is more monsters running around my land.
I've now started documenting the sovereign traits. I'm going through them one by one, looking at the XML files to try and figure out what they really do.
