Shouldn't it have teh logo if it's using the service? Giving credit where due?
That's a good question. Maybe credit could be given in the future in the comments skinners make. The logo has never appeared in the past, for instance, and it never bothered anyone. I can say for sure that I would hate to see it on the skin, anymore than the DesktopX logo or the WC logo.
This will require all end users to have their own ID and Key. Which will be more trouble than the end user will want to do. Not to mention the fact that they will have to edit scripts. I have tested over a hundred themes, and still won't go there, lol. I think the more casual user will just avoid all DX Themes and widgets. Even after repairs are made, the damage will already be done. [/q
What did you mean? If SD Desktop - this project is dead together with Windows XP on my computer... I even can't open it on Vista. Sorry... The other weather widgets/gadgets was already updated and reuploaded.
That's great. Thanks a lot
Well, John, That depends on what the fix is. If I have to put a logo and 5 links in my work, I will update all my themes to have no weather widget. All future themes will be made without weather widgets. Then, in the future, if someone comes up with a good, free, adware free way to give the community a weather script, I will make seperate widgets to match any of my themes and upload them for those who want them. As for now, no weather. Since we don't know
Well, for me, and I assume all my users, DesktopX is about themes, not widgets. But I agree, weather will be missed. You say you can get a calendar with rainlendar, well, there are other ways to get weather too.
I mention Rainlendar because there are a lot of skins for it that are theme-consistent. I'm curious about what you are going to do with your themes. Are you thinking of redoing all of them to fix the weather proble

"It's not as daunting as it may seem, Will" I had to go into Windows sytem files once to remove the word "Professional" from two files so my Windows XP CD could be read. Microsoft had mistakenly put the word in for the non-Professional version, and I couldn't update the system files without doing it, because Windows demanded that I put the "Professional" CD in. I was lucky just to search a

"I don't think that is true, but it certainly don't help. There are still calendars, and meters, system info. lotsa other reasons to use DX besides weather." I'm pretty sure that weather widgets are the most popular by far, and now there isn't a single usable one available to us. That means that the main reason for most people to use DesktopX has disappeared. A calendar is probably next, but we can use Rainlendar, which is more versatile than most DX calendars. I

"My point was that there was only so much that Stardock could do in the best case and this isn't best case. " You at Stardock certainly have my sympathy. Buying a blanket license might be worth the expense, but it wouldn't help today's widgets, would it? They'd have to be rescripted anyway, would't they? That's why I call it a catastrophe. sViz has a great post on fixes for the brave and c

"Did I miss anything?" Fact-Every weather widget is useless now unless you can write scripts Fact-Every widget will look ugly with the logo Fact-When we bought DesktopX, there was no expectation of this, whether it's Stardock's fault or not <span style="font-size: x-smal

I guess it's time to kiss DX weather widgets goodbye. What a catastrophe. I use them all the time. I'm sure well over 99% of us aren't going to start poking around with scripts any time soon; for most of us, figuring out how to change the location is a major triumph. It would be nice if Stardock could make a deal with the provider, but the provider would have to revert to the old code that worked with the widgets, if I have that right. I doubt that

Zubaz--I sent you a PM, but I don't think it got sent. It doesn't appear in Private Messages, and apparently I don't have a clue how to operate the PM system. Would you mind letting me know if you got it or not? Thanks.

SD Desktop is the single most amazing all round skinning project I've come across. I think the artwork is great and nothing has all the tools Vad_M has created. It's a shame that Chronos may never materialize. I'll be very disappointed if it doesn't. I like the gadget idea, too. Not needing DesktopX would make them useful to a lot more people. So, Vad_M, I hope you'll soldier on anyway and complete your great ideas--maybe someday the world will catch up with

What a great article. I love DesktopX too. All my DX heroes are represented here, and one of my newest ones, sViz, as well. I'll put my money on the Black Night from Texas, Mr. Whiz, in a close race. I hope you all keep on doing what you're doing. You're all nice people, too.
