BTW - it's not that "they picked the most complex way to do it", if by "they" you mean Stardock, as a lot of the restrictions/complications are caused by Microsoft's routines which WB relies on in places. Other are caused by compromises needed for performance and reliability/compatability. Only a few are "fixable", and often They get sorted quickly once pointed out to the developers Besides - if

AssassN - seems you've hit one of the areas where TGAs can't be used for transparency. I've found that in the logout/logoff dialogues you have to stick to BMPs and use magic pink if necessary for simple on/off transparency. Another bit with the same restriction is the window frames....there are probably others, but I can't think of them for now.

Styl skinner - I don't doubt that you could register the domain name (assuming it's available - I've not checked) - but, if the previous use were demonstrated and the prior users decided to argue about it then you could be accused of "cyber-squatting", which I think tends to mean the domain is awarded to those who can demonstrate the prior call on it - at least by most registration organisations these days. ...so you could get started as a business and then find yourself "evicted" from

...is it just me or does "skyndicate" tend to read like "sky-n-dicate" on a quick glance? I know skindicate sounds good, but I don't think skyndicate is worth pursuing IMHO... maybe skyn-dicate? Nah... Anyhow, if it came to a TM, then a "sound-a-like" is just as much a problem as an identical spelling as "Mike Roe Soft" found out recently...

...I've thought about trying to render such "phishing" tactics less usefull by having automated 'junk' information flood such attempts to harvest info to try and protect innocents who might put in their valid data....It's not my job, and is in a grey area legaly so I've not done anything about it, but it would be good if someone would. Black hats will continue to abuse the systems as long as there is easy profit in it - to stop them, it has to be made more difficult to get useful info f

I don't know if you're connected with them, but it seems the name "Skindicate" has been used before - as a google search shows: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=skindicate Dating back to 2000 by the looks of things. IMHO The name seems a good one if you can use it, but the slogan seems a little cliche...I'm sure I've heard it before somewhere and I would be more likely to groan hearing it than be impressed.

Update: definately related to the "do nothing" button under the close/max/min buttons as when I hide that one, the window behaves correctly....how irritating!

Just for anyone's info who might be using this tip - I've just found that the offset needed to line things up, and even the size of the graphic needed depends on the font size used. This is fine as long as the end user sticks with what the skinner worked with, but if they use the "scale all fonts by x%" option in WB control then it really messes things up. I suspect a simmilar thing would happen if the user changes the DPI setting in display settings as that has an effect on fonts too.

I would expect the recipt sending to be computerised, but it's quite possible the payment authorisation requires human confirmation before the order is authorised....or, it could be that if it is automated that the payment authorisation service they use, or for your card in particular, is unavailable.

I'm working on a skin where I'm trying to have window buttons outside of the main window frame. I realised recently that to do this, the title bar graphic has to include enough magic pink to "host" my buttons...so great, I now have them where I want - BUT..... When I switch focus from a window, it remains in the "active" state unless I then roll over one of the buttons in the title bar of the now inactive window. Why? *sob* Anyone else had this symptom before? I had

yep, what Koasati said....I gave the wrong impression when I said "making your own skin" as you can turn any skin into "your own" by editing it yourself, as long as it's for your own use and you don't then try and pass it off as all your own work of course

Hippy - I've seen that...which is fine, but it would help if it could have some more info on it as putting a machine in/out of a domain isn't available to most home users to check they've set it correctly, so I wouldn't expect most people to know if they've got it right.

DesignCaddy - but of course, norton will only protect you from things it knows about (OK, and some it doesn't), and since a lot of virus/worms spread to millions of people in a matter of hours now, this is not adequate protection on it's own if people don't take sensible precautions - often refered to as practicing safe hex...

CerebroJD - you could change skins in 5-10 seconds?? It usually takes about 20-30 to finish applying on this poor steam driven machine...When I tried the build with the accelerated changes, it failed to apply the new skin properly at all with lots of graphics being left blank or solid black...I'm leaving it a few versions before tryign again, though some of the things in the latest Skin Studio need the latest WB build and they look so useful that I can't wait to get it working <img src="http://

Personally I'm hoping to contribute at least one more WB skin which will have more appeal than my current entry...but I'm also surprised at how few people are seeming to be involved. I've been most surprised to see new WB skins appearing here at WC at this time from different authors rather than them giving it a go in the Olympics. Is it the pre-moderation that's putting people off, or is it that some of the first submissions so early looked so slick and polished that it's put people of

I can vouch for google bar too, though it was never 100% effective for me. Besides, I've switched to using the google desktop bar instead now as it has some nice features and avoids having a pluging for IE loaded. I've also used Proxomitron http://www.proxomitron.info/ with good results to kill popups...it's also an extremly powerful tool for controlling all sorts of things in your browsing experience if you wish to...it's not the easiest thing to use and can confuse if you don't under

Hang on...the flat landers would see it as a line from one side, but if they looked around it (or had "stereo scopic vision", they'd see it as rounded. Just as we see a sphere as a "sphere" even though when projected into 2d from one point of view it would appear as a flat circle. So, if we look as a sphere with just one eye and from one point in space then it looks like a circle, but we see it from 2 points at the same time with paralax, and can move to look around it too, so we perceive it a

Well, OK...not exactly explicitly against the rules, but it's in the same line as uploading a wallpaper in the screenshots section etc...the best thread on the issue would be this one: https://www.wincustomize.com/msgboard.asp?id=253773&BID=WC&page=1#264689 [Message Edited]

I suspect the large icons are in the quick launch tool bar and that it has been set to show large icons. To only show the icons ont he right, you have to set up the skin to have a small right panel graphic, so if you're making your own skin I suggest you open a skin you like the look of and see what image sizes etc it uses. If you're simply using skins, then you have to pick one that supports "compact" start menus where the skinner has done the work for you. <img src="http://images.sta

If it's mydoom then chances are that anyone who got it sent from you wouldn't see you as the sender, so your advice wouldn't have helped...nice to try though. /me offers advice to everyone: never open attachements of any type from anyone unless you have a very good reason to expect it and the e-mail is very clearly from the right person and relates to the attachement. Even then, open it carefully - giving a good virus scanner a chance to look at it, and NEVER open anything which can e
