I use skins on my Windows XP system because yes I get bored with XP's default appearance, I get bored looking at the same theme every single day, and I like to make Windows look different to make using it less painful. I will be getting a copy of Mandrake Linux 9.1 soon, and I hope it will work on my computer because I am sick and tired of being stuck in a Windows world.

If your sick of windoze then forget linux... Get a Mac. thats the exact reason I switched. I would rather look at windows 95 all day then XP.
BTW good choice on the linux package you are fetting. Gates is rich enough already. Give it 4 more years or less and linus will be the mainstream OS on new computers and not windoze.

fetting = getting
linus = linux

Considering Microsoft owns 40+ percent of Apple, Gates gets richer if you buy a Mac as well.

If I could afford to get a Mac, I would. A PC was all I could afford so Linux and FreeBSD are the only UNIXes available for me to try.

Actually Bakerstreet, it's Bill Gates that owns part of Apple, not his company Microsoft. Also, Billy only makes 5 cents for every Mac sold.

Might not be 40, but I thought that was what I read. It's been thrown around here a number of times by Mac people as an argument as to why Apple will never release OSX for PC. Lemme look around.

BTW you can get OS x or Darwin for your PC. Go to apple and dl the i386 vervion then make iso disks and install it.

ZDNet says that Gates owns 9%. Several articles are saying MS dumped their Apple stock over the last 2-3 years. My apologies for passing on facts without looking them up.

Kona: it is my understanding that the desktop environment isn't included in Darwin, so no OSX interface. not much point in running it without it.

Why don't you go lookup the OS X version for PC? It takes a long time to dowload and you need a burning program like nero to make the iso installation CDs

the os x interface is there, trust me. I'm a die hard mac fan remember?

I wonder if MS has dumped their Apple stock because I remember reading somewhere recently that Apple wants to stop including Internet Explorer with Macs, and wants to produce their own alternative to Microsoft Office. Apple Works is only equivalent to Microsoft Works, so Apple does not have a professional office suite of their own yet.

Safari is Apples answer to IE.

kona: i can't find anything that says there is a desktop environment with Darwin. I see people saying they use X with it. Looking at what Darwin actually is: http://developer.apple.com/macosx/architecture/index.html I dunno how they could make the Aqua interface available with it.

Do you have a link to something that talks about the Aqua GUI coming with Darwin?

I think so. I'll have to get back to you.

I want to know why a person frequents a site devoted to the skinning customization of the Windows OS when he...

Hates Windows OS...

Thinks skinning is a waste of time...

Is convinced everyone despises him and his attitude.

Gosh, the Mac world must be an awfully depressing place to prompt your frequency here.

/me sits on hands to resist cheap shot-taking...

Jafo, he comes here because he's missing the civilisation. He's tired of being alone on his little Mac island.

Really, lets face it, Apple, PC, it's all the same thing. A screen, a keyboard, a mouse. They all crash once is a while, they all work well most of the time.
Sorry, I don't buy the Mhz envy thing. To me it's just a modern version of "My penis is bigger than yours".
