Firstly, if you had trouble with a logon I'd strongly advise NOT diving into LiteSTEP. It has the potential to REALLY create problems for the novice.
LS is a shell replacement, replacing your entire desktop of icons and start menu, etc., and requires careful 'reading' prior to its use.

Each section here has a header which links to the appropriate Proggy DL....

But the Litestep section links to litestep.com, which hasn't been active for quite some time. I don't think it's even reachable right now. Can someone change that link to point to Litestep.net, shellfront.org, blizzle or someplace more appropriate? Please?

The very latest Litestep executable is available here: http://leaf.terica.net/litestep.html

You can get a "theme" providing a particular graphical look and feature set from the Litestep section of this site.

hehe, that will get him into trouble Boreas
0.24.7 does not come with core modules any more, so he won´t have much luck with getting a theme to run.

i think the best idea is to go LiteStep.net.
and it´s really time to update the links here.

Perhaps we should add a link for Omar's installer? That's probably the best way for a newb to get started with the lowest probability of them having a "I have to reinstall windows? (NOT)" heart attack.

What sit was that 24.7 from?

LiteStep is *not* trouble - I've been using it for a couple of years now. More fun than most games, if you ask me. I betcha Jafo thinks it's OK, too.

The 0.24.7 is on Phil Stopford's (sp?) site - related to Leaf R&D. They've used LS heavily to create their customized desktop environment.

Some programs don't work without explorer.exe running in the background and crash the computer. Stick with Object Desktop. Object Bar is a good way to have alternate taskbars without screwing up any .ini files.

Uhmm, which ones would that be? I use all the MS office apps, Trillian, AIM, SmartFTP, PSP7, IDL, etc., and I can't say I've encountered anything that is unhappy about not having explorer running.

The only proggies I've found that like to hang on to Explorer's apron strings are some Games which call up Explorer-type configuration screens in-game...

I'm not knocking any of the OD stuff, BTW, as I'm an OD subscriber and use many Stardock proggies - that's why I'm here. I just like the wide-open flexibility I can get using LS. My current desktop was created using the graphics from treetog's CopperDeckII skin.

I could count all the games I've bought on the fingers of one hand, so it's not likely I've encountered those nasty little beasts. I can always use my non-LS admin account for that kind of stuff. I use it mainly to run windows update and to play with Stardock-only customizations. I always come back to LS for some reason though... must be my love of text based config files, born of long years suffering with *nix OSs.

I wish they made Stardock and litestep programs for the Mac of mine. I have litestep on this xp machine I'm fixing for a friend.

You can use Object Dock or an LS theme to make your PC look more like a Mac, but forget trying to go the other direction.

Would like to go the other direction but lets face it... my OS 10 already has enough eye candy and is way more stable than windoze but it would be nice to see litestep on a mac. BTW I have virtual PC with XP installed on my Mac so in theory I can run litestep on my Mac right?

Yep, but with OS10 do you really need or want to? Unless, of course, you are trying to disguise the fact that you have a Mac.

I don't want to disguise the fact I have a Mac. In fact I think PCs and Windoze suck. I used to have a PC but I switched due to the fact I dislike microsoft and the blue screen of death. The only reason I have XP on my Mac is so I can use some of my old games and such. I just thought that with all my stardock products I could make my XP look cool when I am not using OS 10

lol, Microsoft software on Mac hardware... what a comination... The worst of both worlds. Gimme OSX on PC hardware and I'd probably never look back.

( the preceding was a response to Kona's continuing, baseless "PCs and Windoze suck." moronathon... )

I don't appreiciate attacks on my person, however disguised, based on what type of computer I choose to use. Decides, OS X is to good to be used on a PC or used by PC people.

pfft. oddly you find yourself 'insulted' probably once a week. Everyone knows you think PCs suck, you're just baiting people when you keep saying it.

Actually, even though every knows that, I get insulted just because I use a Mac. You guys obviously think I'm below you somehow. Explain to me why that is. Just because I have no PC? I using a celeron based PC right now and it is making me mad because it is slow at 500 mhz. My apple is 2.8 ghz (dual G$'s) So why do you all pick on me? I might retaliate one of these days.

Speaking of retaliation I have another good question: Why is it you all have to screw with skinning XP anyway? Sitting around a computer all day and night, chatting and making skins tells me that those type of people don't get out much. Why even skin XP at all? that tells me you all are bored of the Microsoft look. Get something new instead like linux or OS X instead of skinning. I think making walls is different than skinng. I have Photoshop 7 thanks to a friend but I do not use it to skin. I leave XP the way it came decides adding OD and maybe liteSTEP. But since I am just begining, I do understand this stuff so instead of completely skinning XP I just leave it alone. I have better things to do with my time like make money than to dedicate myself to producing skins for free.

kona0197 : I don't see a single statement above your "PCs and Windoze suck." comment that was insulting to you. LS_Boreas was wondering wy anyone with OS10 would want to look at a windows interface.

Retaliate all you like *shiver*, but it might be nice to wait until there was something to retaliate for.

Hey bakerstreet, judgeing from those comments you made in the Iraq war thread maybe I should just ignore you. >
