Msgboard Chatroom Marathon

Honestly, I would go to IRC for this kind of stuff, but if any of you have been there recently, everyone seems to be...inactive. Sooooooooo, out of boredom, I'm turning a thread among this msgboard into a chat room, anyone care to join? =P.

It's Sunday night, and I'm bored out of my mind. There's much to do, but I'm too lazy to get around to do it. My boyfriend is busying trying to get Visual Studios to work so I can't talk to him on the phone....and we can't seem to talk over the phone anyways...it'll just be silence mostly.

New Semester started........so anyone alive out there to join Elffie in this chat marathon? =P

Let's try not to let this post hang for over 2 hours, hm? =P

Have a g'day you animals

werewolf, that is the same way i am doing this, and i dont get all the stardock stuff in there.

time to visit control pannel /me *mannic giggles*

go to control pannel
select "system"
go to the "advanced" tab
check out the "environment variables" button

on my machine there is no "path" listed in the "user variables" window.

and the basic 3 section path i have listed above is in the "system variables" option.

my first theory is that your more complex path has been set up in here.

do you need all the stardock programs in your path?

can you live without them for the duration of the experiments?

the only one i can see off hand you needing in your path is OE, and only then if you are launching it from the command prompt.

i dont have any stardock programs in my path, and they all seem to function fine

Doreen - no excuses I deal w/ international ICD-9's and I spell just as bad... hehe

/me doesnt know what international ICD-9's are
perhaps this is a good thing?

as for excuses, well, i am just the way i am. the word (i will refrane from confusing you with another spelling of it ) isnt one i have a lot of practice using

Doreen - but since you're a kat guess I should let you off the hook...

/me *PURRRR*
you can be just so kind and understanding at times

i suppose if you *must* go, but hurry back!

Feline: I have been where you have gone I have only one path statement in user variables apparently only for OE. I have 2 path statements under system variables which are system dedicated.

I can certainly live without the SD path statement and have deleted same. I then changed to liquidaqua and the quicklaunch menus are still dead.

As you suspected, OE is still launching when I dbl click a .txt file so the path statement is not needed.

I don't know if this is relevant or not, but the *first* time I click on a ql item, the cursor turns into the 'busy' cursor and disk crunching is heard as if there is something going on, but of course, nothing happens. Subsequent clicking on ql items results in nothing at all.

i am about to go home for the day, so i will be a few hours before i return.

however, in the mean time:

a) changes to the system environment paths can require a reboot to take effect

b) find the dir your quick launch dir is stored in, and see if it is still there.

*translation*
close ObjectBar
right click on the system taskbar, and go to toolbars. make sure quick launch is turned on.
resize quick launch so that you can click on a clear part.
select "open folder"
you now know which folder it is

of course if this doesnt work then we have a possible solution, along with a new problem *sigh*

is yours in the same sort of place as mine?

mine is:
C:\Documents and Settings\feline\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
Reply #2057 Top
yes that is the same path to quick launch for me and it is still there and the regular MS taskbar is showing quicklaunch and pointing to the right place. I made a quick DX quicklaunch bar and it behaves correctly.

feline-"feline runs off to get a dictionary to work out what fuzzy is on about"

If I remember correctly, Amator = lover

Interesting twist to the thread, don't you think?

I was wondering- what degrees do you guys have? I only have an associates degree (2 years), but I just enrolled in a University to complete a Bachelors degree.

Gee, when I left the party started again. I'm getting a complex. I brave this thread and again no one is here. Well Doreen if you pop in again, hi. And, Feline, well thanks for the invitation (are you deliberately tormenting me just because I wanted your nick?) Oh well, think I'll go hide in a corner somewhere until coaxed out.

Hi starone. No need to go hide in the corner, this is a nice safe place full of furry animals and other cute things. Yesterday's lunacy was just a blip

As for Doreen. She usually pops in, says something cryptic, then pops out again. Dunno when she'll next appear...

feline: feline thinks it is time to jump up and down on fuzzy until he explains what he means...

An 'amator' is one who incites sexual desire in others...I'm sure that's what you really meant and are just being coy

Full marks to KarmaGirl for getting close without using a dictionary

I'm going back for a BS in Business admin or management, not sure which (and it really doesn't matter at this time, anyway) real shock with that, eh?

Do the one which will get you the biggest salary. Well, you have to look after your own interests.

Regrettably my qualifications don't relate to either my accounting or IT professions and that is why I live on a miserable pittance

Well, I doubt that the degree will make me much more money at Stardock than I already make (I'm not making a ton, but I think that what I get paid is fair considering the "fun" factor of the job) and I have no plans of leaving Stardock (it's been my home for over 7 years...people actually make fun of me for calling their "office" their "room") so I am more or less doing it just to do it. It has always bothered me that I never finished my degree. The management degree has more project management courses in it, so I will probably do that. I have to get 12 credit hours in before I can declare a major, so I'll worry about that after a couple terms. I may be 40 before I get this degree, but I'll do it!

starone the pussy cat - Gee, when I left the party started again. I'm getting a complex. I brave this thread and again no one is here. Well Doreen if you pop in again, hi. /me thinks starone the cat needs to be coaxed a bit more

remember the object bar thread? you never seemed to feel that you were being neglected in there, and this thread is more active that that one was.

it is just that all us furry creatures work on a slightly different time system to the rest of the site. comes of all these portals we keep playing with.

you know furry creatues, insatiable curiosity

anyway, if i was trying to torment you i would do it in a nice way. i mean, just look at what happened to fuzzy logic and werewolf. however, if you are interested in seeing what being tormened feels like then i am sure we can be talked into holding you down and seeing how ticklish you are

/me wonders what the best way of working chocolate into this experiment is

JavaBrain - If I remember correctly, Amator = lover

JavaBrain - Interesting twist to the thread, don't you think?

dracoform *starts wondering at that strange glint in feline's eye's*

JavaBrain - I was wondering- what degrees do you guys have?

so, javabrain is talking about lovers and university all at once?

you know there is no need to perpetuate the myth that universities are hotbeds of raging hormones

dracoform *points out relivent memories to feline*

all right, so it isnt a myth

why do you assume that we all have degree's?
actually the more interesting question become's how come all the regulars in here do have degree's?

personally, i studied Mathematical Physics

since then i have started doing a degree (via the OU) in computers and programming. not long got my diploma in computers from them, which was nice.

javaBrain, any chance that you can make an appeal to T-Man for at least one crayon for us?

the above posting would flow a lot better if i could colour code myself more clearly you know.

Fuzzy Logic - An 'amator' is one who incites sexual desire in others...I'm sure that's what you really meant and are just being coy

/me *blushes bright red*
well, why do you think i spend so much time in here leaping all over the interesting and fun ones?

of course it is a nice and fun place, which is good.
however, i didnt want to say anything, after all, what would people think?

Fuzzy Logic - Full marks to KarmaGirl for getting close without using a dictionary

i have never encountered that word before.
perhaps i spend to much time around programmers?

dracoform *looks up from considering felines job description*

look, you know what i mean. i am hardly considered a *typical* individual at work

anyway, back to the point in hand, which is these people dont normally have a vast vocabulary, and are prone to rather symplistic descriptons of things. something to do with the mental age i suspect

Fuzzy Logic - ...mine's English Language and linguistics. Hence my flawless sentence structure but lousy spelling...

AHHA!
now i know why my spelling is so creative!
it comes from having 5 GCSE's (exams at 16 years old) in english!

Fuzzy Logic - Hi starone. No need to go hide in the corner, this is a nice safe place full of furry animals and other cute things. Yesterday's lunacy was just a blip

very true.
normally the lunacy is far more focused on chocolate, as it should be

Fuzzy Logic - As for Doreen. She usually pops in, says something cryptic, then pops out again. Dunno when she'll next appear...

probably another day or so, that is about average at the moment.

this smart button thing is getting stranger and stranger.

i dont recall it doing nothing at all before.

the only obvious reason for it doing nothing is
a) it cannot find the required dll
b) the UIS file has lost some or all of the required information to make the smart button work correctly.

back to those shortly.

werewolf - I tried to register smart.dll thinking that it had lost its way and became embarassed. I got the following:

i have no idea if my smart.dll is registered or not. is there a non destructive way to find out?

as for the actual file its self, on my home winXP machine it is:
size = 36,864
date = 12/12/2001
time = 23:33

if you go to http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/ you can download HJSplit 2.2

this is a very small util that splits and joins up files. it will also calculate the checksum of a file!

using ver 2.2 the checksum of my smart.dll is 2027464

now off to try some more experiments
