There are a number of changes in the upcoming patch that will cause some mods to load improperly, in a way that isn't immediately apparent when selecting them. The affected mods include: - UI+ - Tournament Mod - Continuous Innovation - Sandbox Mode - SimplifiedHandicaps And potentially others (anything that uses Harmony patching). Using any of those mods before they update will make the game unplayable. If any of the affected mod authors need he

For anyone interested in the single player challenges: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tKbkYY7XK13Vhv9yKddjMVmtxqOwu7hbN--BLjfrP2Y To summarize, there are five different scenarios that present you with different starting situations and restrictions. You'll be competing with others for the fastest time, with some time penalties that will b

That's just a UI error, yeah, with the results screen showing a buyout price and final stock value based on your base stock price. As you can see in your 3rd screenshot, Anastasia does have 923k in Cash+Resources and was 98% of the way to buying you, which is correct based on a 935k final buyout price.

I'm not sure how much of the tournament I'll definitely be around for, but I am interested in participating. Sign me up as a sub?

InSync does have a point that you could always just use core samples on tiles you already own or that you could claim a tile before using a core sample, then return the claim if you don't find something you like. That said, I'm not sure I see the harm in adding a very short protection of 5-10 seconds just to avoid the player having to jump through additional hoops.

I'm not Soren, obviously, but having looked at the code a while back: The offworld price for each resource has a set probability (ranging from 1/5 to 1/2) to rise by $10 at certain intervals (I believe every 15 seconds). I could probably put that information on the wiki, but I wonder how many people actually ever look at it...

I assume you missed the part of the replay where the player magically gave himself a few hundred thousand dollars and used that to win :P Not much to be done to combat cheating like that. That said, degenerate strategies that are heavily reliant on debt and early stock buys were dominant not too long ago. There were a series of AI tweaks recently that have made it much harder to be successful with that. The Sol 4 wins from today's daily are a bit more representative of the types o

I could cover from 21:00 EDT to 0:00 EDT and possibly up to 02:00 EDT. I'd be looking to do FFA if there's enough activity and probably ranked 1v1 if not (or maybe even campaign).

The videos and text will cover a lot of the same ideas, with the text just being a more concise way of conveying them. I don't presume to be an expert on the AI; these are just my thoughts based on personal experience (which is still pretty limited for campaign). Daily Challenges Video notes: first 1:15 is me talking about my general approach to dailies; 8:38 I notice there

I know custom scenarios are possible with the current XML structure, though I'm not sure if pre-founded colonies/pre-placed buildings are. Those sorts of scenarios could be an interesting way to add some more bulk to the single-player experience, but I'm not sure how much additional work they'd take to implement. Either way, I'm not sure a more involved challenge like that is really appropriate for dailies from an effort-exposure standpoint. Having a really good scenario limit

Intuitively I like Veivi's suggestion of names before masq better, but I'd be curious to see how blackmagic's suggestion works. I know I've played plenty of games with him where the 1v1 + 2 others situation developed even with masq, so that added wrinkle might help avoid that. Aside from that, I'm not sure I'd actually go for 1v1 QM as an alternative, but it's a reasonable suggestion to have that on for off-peak hours. Over the past two days, I've

So someone asked whether there was a gathering point for the community to arrange games and stuff, and I'd been thinking about how a Discord server could be useful for the community, so I went ahead and made one. What is Discord? Discord is a free voice/chat app that can either be accessed through your browser or by downloading the desktop app. Why should I join? Mostly, it's much more convenient than S

Right now, it feels like MULEs are only used out of desperation or if the prices of everything else have gotten insanely high. This is true despite a number of players expressing surprise when I mentioned that MULEs required fuel. Now, there's nothing wrong with having very niche black market items like the MULE, Network Virus, Core Sample, and Circuit Overload, but it feels like a problem that MULEs are already ignored and are actually worse than most players think. As far

On the AI : the two big differences I've noticed in the AI is in stock buying behavior and power production. One of the AI's bigger old weaknesses was its difficulty scraping enough cash together to complete buys, but with the newer buyout system, you can much more easily be pushed to the brink of being bought (harder in beta 10 than 9, but still true). With power, the AI stops spamming it on HQ1, which both causes power to spike much higher (similar to in multiplayer

A few reactions to your comments: 1) One thing that might help you is using CTRL+SHIFT+DOWN to sell all your resources and save a whole lot of clicks. Obviously it still wouldn't be as convenient as an auto-sell feature since you'd need to do it repeatedly, but it'll help if you haven't come across it yet. On a more substantive note, while it is true that you'll often want to sell resources down immediately as they come in to avoid the risk of prices dropping, ther
