The real question is... what does he use it for? He must have an interesting ship design.
His ship must resemble something from an MMORPG, because the only people who own those are into online gaming. Plus, you'd get serious geek cred for sewing it to your uniform.
^ Oh I'm fine with that. That was actually pretty fun to discover the first time. Also, timed events like this on the planets would be cool too.
Agreed. If the event happens repeatedly, I'm okay with it. That's not really a timed quest but a window of opportunity.
Our primary focus with the Space Combat is to keep it fun and arcade feeling. One of the first concessions is that realistic scale has to go. We wanted the planet sizes and scale to be fun gameplay map terrain and feel like they can be used tactically.
Will any of the ships have ways of capitalizing on the terrain? Maybe have a ship ability that alters the pull of gravity on enemy ships (thus making them crash into planet
We are going to have a game clock going that events in the world take place around. However we are taking great care to make sure that it won't interfere with the completionist desire. [e digicons]:)[/e]
How do you plan on doing that? Wouldn't exploring eat into that clock? I would hate to miss out on contacting a race that's about to be annihilated just because I decided to explore nearby star systems.

How do people feel about timed quests? I personally hate timed quests in games that have an open world to explore. The two items conflict with each other. "Explore the galaxy... but be home by 9 or there's going to be hell to pay!" They bug me because I'm a completionist and a gatherer. I don't like having a time limit placed on my fun.
Hmm...not sure I like the idea of no wrap-around and it being just an out-of-bounds area, but then again, I haven't played it. Is there a possibility of a ship being "cornered" in the out of bounds area? If so, will that affect game play negatively? Just food for thought (from someone who hasn't seen anything yet!)
It might... Consider how screen warping was used as an exploit to foil
Combat as it is being developed right now is being done as both 2D and 3D iso. What I mean by this is you have some camera control at your disposal. You can pivot the camera into a complete top down view if you so desire, or you can play it from any angle from the 90 degree top down to an isometric view that you are able to rotate around as well. This is something I felt the player base was going to be very divided on which is best and since w

My #1 question is how faithful will Stardock be regarding how combat will function. Star Control had a very unique combat style not found in any other game. It was the reason I kept installing UQM over and over (once I lost my original SC and SC2 media). What is Stardock's initial take on how combat will operate? Will it be 2D (or 3D iso with a single plane)? Will we rotate our ships with A/D and fly forward with W? Will it feel like the originals with extra bells and whistles?</p
I'd like combat ships to have main and alternate weapons. The one I'd really wanna see is a long charge long range laser that if hits - one shot kills any other ship.
Alternate weapons are okay as long as the game can be balanced around them. You essentially are adding an additional balance point.
Watch for my posting that we have sent them. I assure you I will post that we have sent the first set of invites out when we actually send them.
Haha, Ok. (And I will post my tears of regret if I'm not selected.) Do you guys have an ETA of when they'll go out? Or rather, should we expect them sometime after Thanksgiving?

Hey SD. Following up my original comment... What's the state of local multi-player Super Melee? As I've said in other posts, most of my fondest memories of the game came from battling friends and family in SC1/2 melee. We'd crowd around the keyboard and play. Even to this day, I still convince people to play with me. I sincerely hope that local multi-player will be a guaranteed feature of Stardock's iteration. 6-way 3v3 SuperMelee will be fun, but I would enjoy

Stardock's Founder's program invitational email is registered as spam by gmail for some reason.
When I read the other post about it being spam, I panicked and freaked out! Thanks for the reassurance.
sure! If you're talking about the long-game and using multiple ships to take down just one... But there's almost a 0% chance that a shofixti could take down a Chmmr by itself....I'd like to see Star Control get the balance of something like Street Fighter, where each character alone was a viable option. You don't need to use a team of Ryu and Dhalsim and Chun-Li to take down one Zangief just cuz he's bigger. But don'
It's funny how everyone always waxes poetic about the ships being so balanced, and I even tend to be nostalgic about the incredible balanced combat system... but when I think about it... REALLY think about it... there were clearly some ships that destroyed and others that were pretty much useless in the heat of battle. I mean... a Supox or a Shofixti or a Zoq Fot would never be able to take down an Urquan Dreadnaught or the CHMMR Avatar
I can't wait to get it started because we really want to start talking to you guys about some of the decision directions and get early feedback without it being "public". It's almost as if you wanted to discuss the state of SuperMelee or general ship combat... Hmm... <span style="f
