Why did you have to uninstall Start8? It conflicted with the default start button operation. Once I uninstalled Start8 and rebooted, I got the default "new" Start Menu and it works OK.

Am very pleased to report that WindowBlinds works great with the Windows 10 Tech Preview. U pgraded from Win8.1, rebooted, and WindowBlinds works fine -- no problems. I did have to uninstall both Start8 and ModernMix, but I expected it would come to that (in the short run) UPDATE: Please NOTE: Windowsblinds does NOT work with the Released version of Win1
Not my experience with Win10 -- but then, I realized that Start8 and the "new" MS Start Menu might not coexist properly and uninstalled Start8. Now, the Start Menu works OK -- as does Windowblinds (will add this part to another post).
Just a heads-up that if you install the Windows 10 Tech Preview, you must uninstall ModernMix in order to get the Metro apps to work. I upgraded from Win8.1, forgot I had ModernMix installed, and was unable to open any Metro app. Once I uninstalled ModernMix and rebooted, the Metro apps work OK now.
Have you read carefully on what Neil said, you would be noticed that ShadowFx and Windowblinds has intertwined functionality.
The phrase "intertwined functionality" implies some level of integration between the two products -- and I do not see in Neils comments where he says that. He said (1) ShadowFax is not designed to work with WindowBlinds, and (2) you would have to EDIT the skin, presumably, to get it to work and even then, it might not.
I ran into the same WindowBlinds problem after the Win8.1 update -- but then, I uninstalled and reinstalled WindowBlinds 8.03 and it works OK, now.
I tried logging into WinCustomize today, to look for new Windowblinds skins, and it won't accept my login anymore. So, I clicked the reset password button, got the email, clicked it, changed my password -- and it appeared to be OK. But, when I tried to login to WinCustomize again, it still says my user name and password combination are invalid. I can login to my account, the forums, and the stardock store, but NOT to WinCustomize. So, is there some other wa
I spoke too soon about WB8 final fixing everything ... I visited a site today I hadn't visited in a long time and attempted to download something -- when I noticed that the radio buttons no longer display in the dialogue box: So, I unloaded WB and saw that they did then display: <img src="http://
Sorry to tell you this, but I'm running Win8 Pro, I tried your sequence and did not encounter any problems at all. I'm using the Alpha Nebula theme, if you're using something different, try switching themes to confirm it's not a theme problem. Also, you could temporarily unload WB to confirm it's a WB problem.
Congratulations on the Final of Windowblinds for Win8. This version has addressed ALL the issues I ran across during the betas. Good Work!
I reported a similar problem in post #225 -- and did some testing to confirm it. Confirmed it was WB: Unloaded WB, clicked the shortcuts --now open properly, as they did before installing WB Confirmed it was WB 7.95: Reinstalled WB 7.91 over 7.95, clicked the shorcuts -- now open properly, as they did before installing WB 7.95. So, if you want them working properly again, unload WB, reinstall 7.91, and they will.
new problem ... was not with 7.90 or 7.91. Have icons in the task bar for launching Windows games (FreeCell, Majong, Solitair). With previous versions, when I clicked the shortcut, the game launched in a window on the desktop. With 7.91, it still launches but in a very small window. When I click the window, it then resizes to the same default size as with previous WB versions. I unloaded WB, tried the same actions, and the games open properly as they did before
I'm running Start8 with Windowblinds 7.91 and have been running these two since they both became available -- and do not have those problems with Start8. I'm using the Sublime skin -- but have used other skins that were installed by default with Windowblinds 7.90 and didn't notice any problem with those, either. Have you tried looking at the Fonts settings in the Windowblinds theme you're using?
Exactly the same for me, three days searching what caused the crashes, today I uninstalled WB 7.9 and chrome works fine.
I've been running Chrome, first some v27 releases, and now v28.0.1500.20 Dev, both with Windowblinds 7.90 and now with Windowblinds 7.91 -- and have never had any problems with any of these combinations. So, it's not just the Chrome Browser. There must be something else involved, as well
I assume you mean the white area in my screenshot? The area inside the frames of the window?
That's right ... but ... Looking at both your screenshots, you have the Active window opacity set to 50% -- and as can be seen better from the screenshot in Reply #6, there appears to be NO transparency. None of the stuff in the window behind the Windowblinds Config window appears to be bleeding through. I even t
I suspect Nero Platinum is not a modern app. If you had to download and run an installer from a website then it is not one and just looks like one which is why ModernMix has no impact on it.
I suspect you're right in that it only "looks" like a Modern app. Is there any way to tell for sure?
Redneck Dude: I don't get those sliders or options in the theme I'm using (sublime). Instead, I only get the colors that you should below the sliders. In the Transparency Settings panel, I only get three sliders: start menu, task bar, and window borders. I see nothing that allows me to change the transparency of the window client area. UPDATE: did some more "exploring" and DID find the panel you show -- but I moved the sliders all the way to the l
I'm running Win8 Pro 32-bit and using Start8 (desktop mode) with ModernMix v1.05. In general, when I'm on the Start screen and click a tile, it opens a Windows on the Desktop containing the app (which is what I think, it is supposed to do). But in the case of Nero Platinum v12.5, when I do that, it opens a full-screen with what looks like a set of tiles. It does the same if I click the shortcut on the Desktop (opens full-screen with a set of tiles). It&
I sure hope Start8 DOES survive W8.1 -- since it offers a LOT more than just a "button".
If you mean the client area of the window, I don't think transparency affects that. I have transparency set to a little under 50% for all three settings (using the Sublime theme) and only see it in the taskbar, the start menu, and the window frame borders. Same is true of other themes I tried.
I unloaded the v7.90 version, installed the 7.91 version, rebooted -- and Windowblinds is running -- without any problems.
Actually, I'm using the Chrome browser -- and the "up to date" version (in my case) is v28.0.1500.20 Dev. And yeah, I know this is a "beta", but I've been using Chrome betas since they first started making them available and have yet to encounter any problems with any of them. A great site for keeping up with the versions is the following: Browsers Downloads - FileHippo.com
OK, did that -- and this time, it took the login and activated WB. Thanks for the rapid replies. And, BTW, WindowBlinds makes Win8 worth using -- sorry, but I just really like the look of Win7 and now I have it back!
I presume I have to disable WB first, right? Don't want the system to crash while I'm doing this and then be unable to get back into a Win8 desktop.
Got an email indicating Windowblinds 8 Beta was available, so I downloaded it and tried to install it. It opened a box asking me for my email address and password -- which I provided, but then I got an error message saying it couldn't connect to the Internet! The task bar clearly showed the icon for network connection, so I opened IE 10 -- and confirmed I could connect to this site. I was able to work around this by providing the serial number (which I got from my
