I had thought that as you research tech, new core ship designs would become available to build in the ship yard. I've researched new drives, unlocked hulls, but I'm still not automatically getting new core ships. What am I missing? Am I going to have to design new ships, like transports, myself? I'm playing a sandbox game in Twilight of the Arnor. Thanks for any help. I've been getting into GCII and Elemental and am enjoying both.

I h aven't dug deeply into it yet but user control of the camera in the universe is smooth and intuitive. It runs nicely in a window. Graphics are nice so far. I'm still coming to grips with what planets are mine and how I will be able to keep track of them once I expand. 1.008 is now up on Impulse!
What we’re going to do is that for users who own the game by a certain date will get (at least) the first expansion pack for free as a token of our appreciation for hanging in there with us. As some long-time Stardock gamers can tell you, our expansion packs aren’t minor things.
I hope I'm not too late. Downloading now.
Thanks for the laugh by changing the name of this thread. I now need a new shirt and more coffee. [edit: Oops I think I mistook this for the " A quick note from Brad on Elemental " thread. Oh well it was good for my morning anyway. [e digicons][/e] ]
Thanks for sharing your find. I don't have the game but good to see a possible solution to the CTD problem.
Yep. The choke hold is tightening. I find myself buying 1/4th the gaming software I used to for the increased hassle of stupid account set ups for single player, and all the DRM ridiculousness.
God me too. I though nothing of buying 2 to 3 games a month. Now I have no idea what new hoop a publisher will want me to jump through just to play a game that I bought. It has made me very cautious and wary of buying new games. I've slowed down considerably. Hey thanks for savin
Well there's the fact that the boxed version of Steam games still make you install Steam, which totally kills my primary motivation in getting boxed copies. Up until recently, my internet was pathetically slow, so installing off a disc was always much, much, much faster than the 5+ hours it would take to download a game. Plus there's the fact that the boxes don't say they require Steam installed
I like Steam but I have to agree it doesn't make much sense to sell a box
"The global economic crisis had a pronounced impact on the videogame industry in 2009, which contracted by nearly 10% year-on-year," Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in a statement. "Ubisoft's sales were hit particularly hard, falling 18% over the full year despite a stabilization in the second half of the year, when figures came in on a par with the corresponding period of 2008-09."
Here's a hint Mr. Guillemot. The global economic crisis is not the only reason sales are
I can see every one of your points, Frogboy. My wife has a netbook for checking email and web but the damn thing does everything you mentioned. Slow to boot, force feeding updates on every app (java, adobe, windows) when all you want to do is check something quick. It's far easier and quicker to use a Blackberry, iPhone, or even an iPod touch with wireless. I just bought an iPod touch for one of my kids and that thing is SLICK! At home I'm tech support for all the PCs. If I
Current ubisoft 'unbreakable' scheme did nothing more then delay pirates for 2-5 weeks, reduces their client base and increase piriting of their titles (only option to play for people without stable connection).
Yep. This is the problem in a nutshell. I don't just ignore new Ubi PC titles, I refuse to buy for any other platform or any back catalog titles until they change their mind. No one wins. Meanwhile pirates keep pirating their games.
Probably my biggest issues right now are with the UI and fleet management; both feel a bit cumbersome and need to be streamlined and/or made more user-friendly.
Heads up! A new update for Distant Worlds is up. Lots of changes to fleet management. Here's the update post . "Among the major im
Correct me if I'm wrong but if pirates are on in a single player FFA then don't they just attack you, the player? I don't think it's even worth getting into bidding as the pirates will be coming for you anyway. It would be better to spend the money on a garrison.
Star Wars: Battlefront.
[e digicons]k3[/e] Me TOO! The original is the best. Though I would've liked to see Renegade Squadron ported from PSP to a console or PC. My daughters and I waste hours playing split screen on the PS2. We never got into BF2 like we did the first one.
Also it s good to see what a company says about their game so you can pick out the fake customer reviews that are put up by people in that company. If the review sounds alot like the press release then its probably a pr guy pretending to be a regular consumer.
Like the multiple 3 sentence reviews at Amazon.com for most EA games? Oh Noz theyz not real? [e digicons]:omg:[/e] Back to review sites. I find myself looking more and more to sites that gather up a large
I take reviews with a grain of salt. I have my own likes and dislikes. For example God of War. I am not interested in it AT ALL. But it's very popular and people seem to like it. If I were to review it my score would reflect my personal taste.
Ah, now I understand. The AI and path finding were mentioned in the links I posted as reasons saving a skirmish with AI was not implemented in SC2. I ment they were big issues for GPG to solve.
It seems you didn't even play some of these games . Warzone's path finding was horrible and Total Annihilation's path finding completely broke down the more units you had on the battle field.
The games I listed can save a skirmish with the AI in mid game. 2 of the games listed are over 10 years old and they can save. It's seems I didn't even play those games listed? How do you conclude that from what I posted? As far as Warzones path finding goes. Yeah it can be
Great! I'm glad it wasn't an April Fools joke when Battle Tactics was announced[e digicons]:D[/e]
That's actually a pretty hard question to answer. Depending on how you play these types of games doing some things may take more clicks then others. I'd say they're about the same in that respect honestly.
I think they might play similar if Sins research and economy were set to the faster setting? Does that sound right?
I honestly like the format. It's not a review. It's two regular guys talking about a game they played and showing you how it runs. Good stuff and nice job.
I am totally new to SC because I never had a PC that could run it. I bought the THQ pack on sale so got SC and FA in the bundle. I like it. That said SC2 was under my radar until then. I'm not a SC2 hater, but yeah, I can see where people would think it's a step backwards. The strategy of choice in SC2 is ACU rushes. The game maps are so small and teching up is so fast it makes this possible. Try an ACU rush in SC/FA on one of those huge maps and good luck with that. Far better to call t
That is true Mbaron. I'm sure that will get patched soon though.
Well according to GPG adding a "save in skirmish" feature is just too time consuming for them to bother with right now. But it is on a "list" of things they'd like to do someday. The "AI and pathfinding" are big issues. I wonder how Sins, Super Com/FA, Distant Worlds, Total Annihilation, Warzone 2100 were able to manage it? You mean to tell
Good initial review Martok. I also don't like the music too much, but you'll get used to it, slowly.
Really? I rather liked it. It might help to have more music and for it to me more thematic instead of random but the music is good.
