I know these are just wishes but I thought the game Haegemonia had some interesting ideas. Heroes - It might be like Fleet Admirals. A random hero could ask to join for an up front payment then a steady x credits of income per second. A hero could boost a planet, capital ship, starbase or maybe any ship or fleets performance. Spy ships - These ships would go into an enemy area undetected. They could steal tech or credits. Sabotage starbases, cap

I'd buy the Ultimate Edition disc for that price on Amazon. The boxed edition is getting hard to find. The good news is then you can register the game key you get in the box with Impulse and then be able to get the digital download too!

Sounds like you made the mistakes that I did starting out. It's easy to get into colonization mode early in the game but before I know it here comes the opponent AI with a couple of caps and 20 to 25 light frigates. Starting out I like to get about 3 or 4 planets where the phase lanes form a 4 sided polygon. My early 100 fleet supply can get around and defend those. After that it's time to build up the fleet to 250 supply and create a couple of fleets. I use my fleets t
In any case of a game made for a console as well as the PC, or Heaven forbid, a game made for consoles brought to the PC, 99.9999999 percent of the time does not take into account the flexibility of the PC. They don't even try to take into account the 128 key Keyboard and mouse combo. This and/or tiny maps and options. IMO the answer to why it is loved by many is right in this thread. It's a giant universe simulator that can be tailored to how you want to play it. Play as the overload emperor or zoom in and just play as a fleet captain and follow that ship around on it's adventures in the universe you created. Distant Worlds unique features are it is real time, it's a huge galaxy, and the AI does a reasonable job running the areas you want automated.
Boy I would love to hear some examples.
Well not in the same 4x space genre, which is my favorite. (I'm looking forward to seeing how Gemini Wars turns out) War in the Pacific and Uncommon Valor. Both turn based WWII Pacific Theater games. Harpoon Ultimate Edition is an RTS based on modern sea warfare.

My take on the review is exactly what OP pointed out, you either love it or hate it. As I read the review I felt it was well reasoned and he clearly stated his expectations and why they were not met. I think many people just can't get past the 2D graphics. I don't mind them because I find the game engaging and rich. But then I play and enjoy some games that make DW look like a cutting edge graphical masterpiece. I love eye-candy just as much as anyone and would love a Masters of a Solar

How about Day Break. It's about a modern day cop that gets framed for murder. He lives the same day over and over. A bit like Ground Hogs Day. Some interesting twists are if he's injured the wounds carry over into the next reboot so he can't just jump off a building and expect to wake up again. Also if he makes a significant difference in someone's life the person kind of remembers it and changes their mind about what they do in the new reboot day. The series tied most things together so it h
So much of this game looks interesting. But i despise RTS games as they become a test of hand and eye coordination. Perhaps its time to go back to Space Empires IV and V?
Just to chime in here. Yes it's an RTS but the custom settings help you play any way you want. Advisers will keep you informed and pause the game. You can then click on the advice or event and zoom right to it. <

FWIW I had the same problem with Storm over the Pacific. Tried to download and archive on 2 different PCs and got the same error when trying to restore. The only solution was to delete the useless archive and just install the game via download.
I never get more than 6 fps!! I cannot imagine the cause for that, my machine runs fairly demanding games without a problem. It inhibits scrolling, which I have to do a lot of.
Try setting the game video setting to 16 bit colour instead of 32 bit. I've been able to get a few more FPS that way.

Be careful. Try the SEV demo first. The game does not work well on Vista or Windows 7. You will get a frame rate of about 7 to 9 frames a second. It's a well documented problem if you check around on Steam or other forums. I would buy it too if it worked better on 7. SEIV is supposed to have better AI than SEV.

The camera can be a bit annoying if you are used to games like Sins of a Solar Empire. The middle mouse button is how you focus on different ships in combat. I use pause whenever I want to stop to fix my camera or think about strategy. Do you have the complete collection or born of blood? Then start a tutorial game and watch the tutorial videos. Very helpful. The videos are on the net here. Tutorial

@ OMG_pacov I caved in and bought the Impulse MoOII. So far I have to say I like it and dang I wish I wouldn't have missed it back when it was cutting edge. I have the same disappearing install in "My Games" tab but I just made a new tab and dragged the shortcut from my programs folder into that.
