For those of you who didn't spot it, there is a new "Desktop Pet" that is available in the WinCustomize store for $9.95. It looks a lot like a Mogwai to me. In fact I'm worried about feeding it after midnight (local time). It is along the lines of the pet dogz and catz program, but it doesn't take up near the resources. It usually takes about 2% to 4% of my resources. The sounds can get to you after a while. Especially when it is playing with the

I think on some programs you can pick and choose which programs you want to minimize to the tray, and which ones you want to have a normal link on the task bar. Go to the tray, and right click on the icon and toggle the "hide when minimized" link from the drop down. I know this works on Outlook.

Okay, I've got a weird one. I've been tweaking the skin I'm working on, and something went wrong in the status bar department. In Outlook 2003 you have view status bar as a toggle option. After recovering from a crash, every time I clicked on vew status bar, it would turn the color of my status bar on the whole screen. I'm sure that it is my skin, because when I load other skins, it works just fine. I've tried recreating the graphics fro

Hi, I just bought the Apogee Icon set. I'm also a fan of IconX. The two don't want to play nicely together. IconX errors out every time. I assume this has something to do with the icons being vista compliant. Are there any plans to make IconX compatible with the Apogee Icon set or make the icon set compatible with IconX? Thanks

I started out using the exact same size as the originals, which was 24x24 pixels per icon. After trying your suggestion of importing the images, skin studio created icons that were 25 pixels high, but still 24 pixels wide. For the small version, I just put in 16 pixels for the height, and kept the same aspect ratio. The first time I went from 24 to 25 pixels high, there were no lines under the explorer set, but it came back the next time.

Well Night Train, that got me a lot closer. Now they don't have weird mask shapes around the new icons, but they have a single pixel underline. The explorer underline isn't larger as it appears in the graphic example. That was just an artifact of resizing the image to fit here. When you mouse over the buttons, there is a box border around the image in gray. This is liveable, but if anyone has an idea of what I'm doing wrong, I'd like to have the bu

I'm not a Windowblinds expert at all. This is only my second windowblind. I'm having trouble with all of the toolbars. I wanted to create my own unique set of toolbar icons. I found out by trial and error, that it is best to have both the main version and the hot version exactly the same. I'm using 32bit TGA files and the recommended default file names. I've used a black background on the TGA files as they were in the default images. As you can

I followed the same path as all of you. Uninstalled SDC, and did a clean install. It went through this time, but every time I try to install a package, I get this error message: There was an error installing SkinStudio Prefesional [Beta]. The following error occurred: Load: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\installed\sp.xml 0 (file not found) Result: Instalation failed (0) Would you like to view the installation log file?

I have automatic update notification turned on. A few minutes ago it told me there was a new version of stardock central, do you want to download? I said yes as always, and it installed. Then it told me there was a new beta version of windowblinds and skin studio. It started to download them and then crashed. Now every time I open stardock central to try to roll back, or finish the downloads it crashes. I seem to be stuck in a catch22 position.

I've been in the computer business for over 25 years, and I have enough "stupid end user" stories to fill a book, but my favorite goes back about 20 years to when we were still using 5.25 inch floppy disk. I had an older lady on the phone, who I was trying to talk through the process of copying some files to a floppy drive. I told her to take a clean floppy and insert it into the drive. She asked if I would wait a moment while she got a fl

Shadesofgrey.... I have done nothing but give blood. It is all that I can do. What have you done? I wish that I could do more, but my financial situation doesn't allow for it. I'm not asking for any sympathy. Those impacted by the storm need it far more than I. I have numerous health problems. Even though I work a full time job at a major University, and have health insurance about 45% to 50% of my net income goes to doctors and for

I want to clear up an error in my original post. I was talking about the incidents happening at the Superdome, when it was actually the convention center in New Orleans. Well, I've calmed down a bit. I'm still heart-broken over the gross failure on so many levels of the relief effort. But, we are seeing some help starting to reach the people that need it. I don't want to get into the name calling, or baiting that I see on many of the blogs

I haven't posted any political blogs to this point, even though I feel strongly about what is going on. I don't think this administration really believes in free speech. If you critisize policies, the administration, or the actions of this government, you are branded as un-american and probably end up on some government watch list. This being said, I saw something on CNN today that made me so angry I couldn't keep quiet any more. I am wat

I've been using Logon Studio since it came out, and have been developing logons here at WinCustomize for quite a while. I recently upgraded my video card to an Nvidia GeForce 5200 AGP 8X w/128 megs of RAM, as well as a new motherboard and other asundry enhancements. Since then, my logons look okay when I boot up, and when I shut down or restart. But when I try to change logon screens or when the system comes out of hibernation or the screen

The other possibility for it not showing up at all, is that Brok3nprogress.bmp doesn't use the exact same color palette as Brok3n.bmp. Load your main bootskin image and save the color palette with whatever graphic program you use. Then open the Brok3nprogress.bmp and apply that color palette to Brok3nprogress.bmp

Your progress bar width should be a multiple of 22. The Brok3nprogress.bmp should be 22x9 pixels (the same as the Windows default). If you do this, then you can use the preview function in the Bootskin program to move the progress bar to anywhere you want on the boot screen. The trick is open up your bootskin in one window, and edit the bootskin.ini file in notepad. As you change the X and Y coordinates in notepad, just remember to do a save each t

I love logon studio, and it isn't as resolution dependent as you might think. If you create your logon screens with "stretch" attribute set for all three sections, you can get a 1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x960, & 1600x1200 all in the correct aspect ratio. The 1280x1024 becomes a bit "tall".

I've been using dual monitor set-ups at home and at work for years now. The control of whether maximizing crosses both screens and so on, is in the driver software for your video card. That is a level too low for a program like desktopX to control.
