LOL. I continued the game until a Mega Event totally Frelled me. Just goes to show why I play on Normal level instead of Challenging or tough.

Cheer: The first time I used a Terror Star to totally decimate a planetary system with FIVE populated planets (including their home world). Oh Man that was a rush. Take THAT Iconian Refuge. Cringe: I was playing a game when suddenly a Mega Event distributed more than 30 spies into all of my worlds, totally wrecking my economy. I had not factored Spies into my strategies yet as I haven't figured a way to use them effectively. Laugh: See a
In my game, they slowly started expanding. They took over several of my planets. It takes a while (it took a while for me to get powerfull enough to kill them), but they expand.
LOL. I had something similar happen to me. Ok, it was a large universe, but the tech level was just about that. And the DLs plopped down in the system one over from my home world. Boy did I feel the pain. but what I did was kept a steady stream of junk ships in my orbits. Let the DLs pound them all they wanted while I researched like a mad little dictator. Can you say focus? it took a while but soon I was able to take out the DL ships, usually by sacrificing a fleet just to take
LOL. OMG. some people really need to get over themselves. Sorry Flux, you don't get ice-cream for dinner (again). You have been told, not until you clean your plate of the really delicious food that was prepared for you. To Frogboy and Boogiebac and all the rest, Gal Civ2 ToA is a fabulous expansion on top of an awesome game. And the effort you guys put in to make the release as bug-free as it was, not to mention the after market stuff you guys are doing, is VERY M
First of all, Creation of an Image for a box is in no way anything like creating a box. Just because one was done does not mean that the other was/should be done. Hiring a marketing single person to mock up a virtual box is an extremely small investment and maybe a couple of hours on a computer at most. Putting that box into some kind of production is a HUGE thing. It costs money. Not just the ink and the cardboard. But paying a printer to build the prototype, run it by legal department an
I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on this. Currently I am playing in a large universe. I have wittled down the competition to just three other races. All three are almost completely cowed and their tech level is such that they can't muster weapons/ships that can even scratch my own ships. I have population levels on all planets such that, given 2 turns, I can invade any of the remaining planets with at least as many troops as the planet has colonists and I have bette
Thanks Mnesthes.Just a strategy question on #1. Is it generally a good idea to put a farm on every planet of a certain size? I was putting them only on planets that had the resource bonus and whenever I was bored and didn't know what else to put on a tile.
Not sure what others say, but here is my thought. Farms are good for bringing up the number of colonists on a planet. This is a plus and a minus. On the plus side, more colonists mean more income. So defin
LOL. Glad you can laugh at your own missfortunes. Personally I only like the large and above maps. They are really the only ones that allow the full drama to play out. and I love the Mega events also. I have to admit that the Dreadlords had me cursing up a storm the first time they came to visit, I am liking the fact that this isn't chess. The best laid plans will often go awry. My current game, I am playing Thalians for the first time. I have three other Civs on the boar
Don't get me wrong, I think that the Jagged Knife is a PITB, but it is a Mega event. I don't see them any more or less of a pain than any other. And if you want to draw a parallel to another game mechanic, what about planets defecting to another civilization? That is free and potentially just as damaging. I guess I respect your not liking the event but I don't personally see it as game breaking the way you do.
You might be able to sell them in the later game, or even gift them to allies, minor races, etc. Upgrading them is also an option, though perhaps prohibitively expensive.
You can definitely destroy them for BC. This was a time consuming process until I was told that you could delete all of them at once with the delete button (in stead of disbanding, selecting, going to the management screen, selecting destroy and accepting EACH ONE). You get some credit, but not a whole
I've never seen this though. I try not to give either of my treaties away since I'm just helping out a future enemy. But I will still do it for the right price. Like a planet or 2.
Have you seriously ever negotiated for a planet? More than one? I have never successfully done this. Either I don't have enough BC or they want the world of tech just to give it too me. I usually figure that it is just as easy to take it from them. But I also want to play a trade/
1) Make class 0 planets have some use. Simple solution is just to create an outpost construction of some sort to be used on class zero's. Little population, used exclusively for construction or something along those lines. A more exotic solution would be to extend then terraforming tech branch to allow terraforming modules to be placed on ships which will convert a planets environment over time (I like this idea in that it could create a third much later game phase of "colony rushing", bu
The Torians main strength is the fact that they multiply like rabbits. They totally excel at the colony rush, but they do it at a price. The basic strategy, as near as I have been able to tell, is to lease as many colony ships as possible and to bull-rush planet seeding. They exhaust their economy doing it and don't put anything down until they recover. all the while, they breed and breed, hence the high population on the empty worlds. This strategy has strengths and weaknesses. Re
Believe me when I say, production will not be an issue as the Thalians. Nor research or moral. You get some pretty nifty super projects right at the beginning that will totally swamp other races in this regard.
So basically it is a Dreadlord ship.
Thanks everyone for the feedback. Much appreciated. I now feel fully armed to eXploit research/economic treaties with my "Allies".
...snip... -First off I really think cloaking technology is essential for the new game, even though it probably won't be out for several years and by then cloaking technology will probably be as common in america as toast and soup. I mean how cool would it be if while going into a cold war with the Iconians of more likely the Krynn, you had to develope tachyon sensors to even locate your enemy's ships; and then they go and build a better cloaking device that doesn't use tachyon radiat
Yes but why BLUE? Why do our eyes see a specific refraction of color as that particular shade? And why do we call that shade BLUE? Seriously, thanks for the definition. I kind of figured that it would be something like that. Is there any down side to picking one civilization over another? If that Civ happens to zero out their econ/research, does/could it have negative impact on mine? Does this get broken when I finally surprise attack them?
How could it fail to be. The game is awesome. Seriously, I am very pleased that the game is getting great coverage and excellent reviews. IMHO there are far to many 4X games out there worth their salt and that is disapointing for those who love the Genre. Hopefully more game developers will see this platform still has life and make more games. Of course, that isn't saying that any will beat, or come close to GalCiv2, but maybe? In the mean time, I am very happ
Please don't flame me for asking what might be an obvious and stupid question, but.... Why is the sky blue? No seriously, I see that research and trade treaties now exist. I can't seem to find anywhere that explains the benefits/problems with these. Ok, I haven't actually cracked the PDF file, but still. I have played around with them but don't actually see any benefit, except to strengthen relations. Since I usually play to dominate the lesser r
I have actually been purchasing Research buildings from other tech races.Tech trading is even more powerful in TA- every race has some weakness in its tech tree they can make up for with trading. I tend to go after AI techs that give civ-wide bonuses, and watch them stack and stack...
Me too. I always search through what is in the offering by other races and really focus on those that provide some Civ wide boosts. when you have more than one, they really add up.
LOL. Gotta say I laughed. Sorry for your miss-fortunes, but sometimes that is the way the galactic cookie crumbles. Yeah, I have had a couple of games that go that way. Go from being top dog down to just a mangie mutt. In my game, I got hit by a Galactic Recession followed by the Dreadlords coming and parking in the solar system one over from my home planet. Tech hadn't progressed to the point where I could even scratch the DL, but that had to change, and quickly. I spent about 10
Well, they do have approval buildings so the combination of powerful unique buildings & a few empty tiles to be filled with approval buildings and a political capital is quite ok.I did tend to run into financial trouble later on though once I had more of the Thalan research & production buildings (they have considerably higher maintenance costs per MP / TP than the normal factories and labs)
I have actually been purchasing Research buildings from other tech races. Absolutely play to the style that makes you happy and most comfortable. The suggestions you get here are just that, suggestions. With that having been said, i always find that it is better to have a coherent strategy to my research. I start out researching the research techs to the point just before it becomes prohibitive and then switch to something else lesser (usually econ or weapons) until my emipre is larger and the larger techs take less time. As far as upgrading, I d
