So basically something on par with a java chat client got overloaded.. hmm... I have a hosted site if they want to borrow my 1mb of bandwidth lol.
Well Stardock says theres 100k+ warez copies of the game hammering their server, so if the warez copy got somehow tampered with to affect their systems in a way it shouldnt have then that may atleast partially explain the problem. Bandwidth isnt an issue, hardware resources is and they sa
Hero balance needs attention as there are noticeable balance issues between the various demigods I dont get that...
Well when a General can kick an Assassins butt without even relying on their army of units for assistance there are definately balance issues. Why play an inferior hero?
I am not exactly a computer whiz but how is there server overload with a P2P game? Doesn't it rely entirely on user's computers to host the game? If they are lagging when just trying to connect players together and not process the game engine, that isn't a good sign.
Well its not entirely P2P as the backend servers handle the matchmaking for the online tournaments. These are hosted by Stardock and seemingly are overloaded
Well its not entirely a game design problem as it is a back end overload problem. Certainly the game should have been better designed to prevent back end stress and it is obvious Stardock was unprepared for the mass reception as the CEO has clearly said so. So just like an MMORPG having its servers get overloaded and crash the similarities are certainly there.
My review of Demigod is now available at GameSNAFU, enjoy. http://www.gamesnafu.com/readarticle.php?ArticleID=283 Those with short attention spans or desire for instant perfection are likely to disagree with my assesment, but anyone whos played an MMORPG at launch will understand why I see Demigod as a diamond in the rough that with some more debugging and patching will be a truly remarkable product. Reminds me of the first week of World of Warcrafts launch :)
Yes please (on the manual thing). Need.
Formatted yet again, this time I installed my old XP Pro. Installed graphics drivers, sound drivers, latest directx, activated the game and ran it. Lo and behold the game runs. However all the menu items are blank and it asks for a Loka-ID when im exiting. So it runs under XP in a glitched state, and doesnt work at all under Vista. Am I missing something here?
Actually, on the clean install of windows, the error message is different, says Sacred 2 - GameServer has stopped responding. If I use the -noconnect option, I get a black screen with the sacred logo in the middle and a bunch of green text on the bottom left. When it gets to connecting to local server, the green text flickers up and down indefinately. However all that is without the game being activated. Once I activate the game, even using -noconnect does nothing.
I cannot get this game to run. It activated just fine, but afterwards it crashes on running every time. First, specs: Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.3Ghz 3GB DDR2-800 GeForce 8800 GTS 640mb Audigy 2 Vista 32-bit SP1 Next, here is what happens: when I double click on the icon, after a few seconds I get a window saying Sacred 2 has stopped responding with some text/code/numbers below. The details say: Problem Event name: APPCRASH Applic
wouldn't it just make sense to move in LRM frigates to hit them from a distance?
Yep. But that still leaves a lot of frontline ships that cant move nor shoot, disabled by a single enemy cruiser. Either way I consider the issue closed as its being addressed in 1.1
Wow, your graphics and effect changes are incredible. Make combat vastly more interesting to watch and enjoy. Well done!
Question about this mod: it extracts two GameInfo folders, a regular binary one and a TXT_GameInfo one. Is the TXT one even used? Any changes I make there dont seem to reflect. Is the binary one even necessary? Just curious how this works.
No, it comes down to you instisting that one useful unit which you find hard to beat makes the entire game unbalanced. The ship is getting mildly nerfed, the fundamental ability of it remains, and it will still require the same tactics to beat. And it's very easy to assume you're being stubborn and not listening when you barely respond to people's advice, and when you do, you insist that nothing will work and the unit can't be beaten. I don't even know why I'm bothering to argue tbh, I thin
Jesus H. Christ, how did you get that many ships and that many resources???O____oWas that a 5-hour game or something?
If it only ended at 5 hours it would have been a quick game. 110 planet map, max sides/races. And that screenshot is early on in the war.
He deserves every put down he gets. If he had the humility and honesty to turn around and say 'you know what guys, you were right, I need to adapt my ONE TACTIC', then people wouldn't be so hard on h
also try to keep in mind that the lore of this particular game basically says that the Vasari are wayyyyy more powerful than TEC or Advent, and the TEC are the least advanced.Im pretty sure the game was designed to be unfair towards TEC, this promotes good tactics.
Ok, assuming thats true, whats the benefit of playing TEC then?
Annekynn, I agree with you that the devs aught to spend more time actually playing the game. All devs aught to. Every time they tweak something, it should be another days worth of test playing ! That said, you appear to be missing something. When in battle, I use the Empire tree a great deal. If one type of ship is giving you trouble, then you look for its symbol in the tree list for that system, and you get everything to fire on that. And you keep clicking the symbol until they are all d
The ship is only doing what it was designed to do: Make your life difficult.
Well yes it does that quite well. It forces me at the outset of every engagement to pause the battle and pick out all those ships amongst their ranks as primary targets otherwise im screwed. Do you think the enemy has to do the same when fighting against TEC? What TEC ship is a MUST kill at the outset of every battle because it will make or break the fight? There is none. Furthermor
I think the point a lot of folks are trying to tell you here is that YOU need to re-think the tactic you used. I don't want to go in and quote every proverb stating such lol, but I hope you catch my drift. Also you shouldn't complain about one type of ship when its doing what is was built to do: Make your life difficult. If you win, you win. Congrats, you did something right. But if you lose, deal with it. Learn from your lose and try something new.The smallest of mistakes; a missed det
Annekynn, it's very obvious the problem isn't with the game, but with you. No one else seems to be having this issue. If it was a game breaking balance issue, then more people would complain. However, they aren't. The problem lies within your "tactical" short comings. Once you understand this, you'll be able to get over it.
Well thats great and wonderful. If everyone thinks 1 ship should be able to disable a whole fleet then by all means, I am wrong and your
Who only brings one type of unit to a battle? Gets good advice from experienced players. Blows it all off.
That was me fighting against fleets that had a dozen Iconus Guardians amongst their ranks. This basically made their fleet invincible until players told me which ship was doing that, afterwards I would always target the Iconus Guardians first and everything was fine. Unlike the Subverters, the Iconus Guardians atleast allow me to shoot them.
Six
Wow, you spamtarded one unit and then got owned? Oh noez!!lawl
You fail at reading comprehension. This isnt Barrens chat.
Yes, you need to micro against subverters. Oh noes. You've obviously never played starcraft if you think this level of micro is a problem =p. And yes, it does cause losses even when you adopt countermeasures...Thats why subverters are a great unit...But then again, Vasari receive the short end of the stick in so many ways, they deserve a great support cruiser IMO... I do agree they needed a nerf, and they have received one in the beta (although its too big a nerf, IMO)...As people above d
NM, figured it out :)
Actually nm, just found the Reference Data TXT files.
