WC web poll...for the women

WC web poll...for the women

AS the line for number of females does not seem to be moving, how about all you female members post a "hello there"...perhaps we can get an actual number. Maybe tell how long you've been computing!!!

I'll start... First started learning how to use a computer 6 years ago, mostly just email, surfing the net...didn't start creating on the computer, till Feb. 2004...have enjoyed every minute of it, except when I have a puter problem ...and I have made lots of new friends !!

I just noticed this thread. Great Idea! Ive been messing around with computers since the early 80's I guess. My first experience with the internet was thru AOL dialup . I hated AOL , but I thought the WWW was facinating. SOOOOOO much to see and do. Over the years I mainly used my computers for surfing the net and , digtal picture printing and making flyers for local charity foundations. Also over the years Ive learned a tremendous amount about computers...troubleshooting. repairing etc.... Im currently using a computer that I built. (I'm pretty proud of that considering I started out not knowing a thing about computers) I got into skinning about three years ago. Skinning is a continual learning experience and I know I still have a lot to learn, but I really do enjoy it.

I even cried like a big sooky girl

You're not alone there....and I'm so relieved to know I'm not. I've been known to take my sooky pillow and uncontrollably sob into it for hours over lost data

Okay, so it wasn't that bad....but isn't it upsetting when you've lost a wall or two and can't remember the title, let alone where they came from

When I saw the title of this thread, it sorta reminded me of the ladies toilet taboo....men just don't go in there. But as you can see, temptation got the better of me. Not to go in the ladies loo but out of curiosity to see how many ladies we have here at Wincustomize. Although some nicks are a dead give away, some aren't, and I'm glad that I dropped by to discover we have quite a few more women here at Wincustomize than I first thought. It's really nice to see you all here.

BTW....I once went into the ladies loos, to do some maintenance where I worked, and was surprised by some of the poetry. It was probably the longest cistern replacement in history ....as the mens humour paled in comparison.

Another female here!

Been using computers since 1980 when all we had was DOS, 20Meg hard drives and 5 1/4" floppies.

I've gotten to the point where I can build my own system from the ground up because I did it with this new computer.

I don't skin but I do digital art.

another female to add to the list - have always had a computer in the house - even the ones w/ the huge soft-floppy built the desktop i have now - all with my money too and am quite proud of it - then built my sister's computer. recently picked up an iBook and love using mac now too love coming to WC - cant' ever leave my computer the same for more than a month. pretty much the computer "geek" in my house all problems go to me. but it's cool.

Another female....

I've been using computers since the days of DOS, no hard drive...all programs and files were stored on big floppies! I am fascinated with computers....I probably goof off on mine, more than I do the work I am supposed to do for my job (I'm a nurse who does a lot of teaching.) Anyway, I build and repair computers...built my first one in 1999. I also dabble in web design.

I have "messed" with customizing the look of my computer since the days of Windows 95...I used to make tons of themes. Then XP came along, opening up a whole lot of new possibilities. I am just now starting to get brave enough to make my own blind...have been porting a lot of VS (personal use) to get practice in how the blinds work and what needs to be done to make them look good.

Some of mine was music as well....twice I lost everything on my system, no thanks to some nasty that got in under the radar and rendered it inoperable.

One of the gems from the ladies lavatory

There's only two things wrong with men....everything they say, and everything they do.
Someone added later....and mostly everything they think.

Seems that most of us in the forums (the names I see anyway) are at least computer literate, if not savvy. I am just relieved to see that there ARREE females out there involved in this skinning business we have going on here.

And ladies, if you have music on your hard drive, put it on disc! You can put hundreds of mp3s on CD-R and you'll always have THAT back up.

gfcentral: nice car!

Female, but not of the creative-skinner type. However, I greatly appreciate all of the (gender-neutral) wonderful stuff that gets posted here!

Been using computers since... must have been 1982 or thereabouts. Lost all fear of them in 1984 when my grad advisor handed me a serial mouse board and said "Install this" and proceeded to "talk" me through it with him in his office with his feet on the desk and me in the outer room fighting with a screwdriver. Never looked back!

And I've been fiddling with desktop looks ever since I knew it could be done. But of all the things I've played with, I think WC is the best!
