WC web poll...for the women

AS the line for number of females does not seem to be moving, how about all you female members post a "hello there"...perhaps we can get an actual number. Maybe tell how long you've been computing!!!

I'll start... First started learning how to use a computer 6 years ago, mostly just email, surfing the net...didn't start creating on the computer, till Feb. 2004...have enjoyed every minute of it, except when I have a puter problem ...and I have made lots of new friends !!

Hey Barb, cool new thread!

"raising hand" I'm female!
Have had a pc of one kind or another for nearly ten years, still don't really know how they work, have watched over the years an incrediable changes in personal pc's and the WWW. Can't imagine being without it!
I have learned so much, but never seems to be enough...
Digital art is new to me, but I LOVE IT!
It also seems to "level the playing field" between male and female,
on the net and in the art world!

Hey TBC,
I have a chemistry background & used computers off & on since the late 70s/ early 80s (UNIX, dos). My 1st PC... I couldn't leave it alone-- had to re-install Windows I don't know how many times as I learned by trial & error how to get rid of pre-installed junk I didn't want. I was glad to find WC because I still cause myself all manner of trouble, and there be good folk here, of many sexes and species

I can put a dress on if you like to boost the numbers...

Watch out, NT. You might get hit by a pillow.

Wow a total of 8 females!!! Just kidding, NT (thanks for the bump), Fuzzy, only if you upload a pic of you in a dress!! S.D. haven't been in a pillow fight for years, not since the kids were alot shorter than they are now!! Hankers, Cynder-Elluh, I don't know how the darn things work either, but it is really nice to be able to have a place to ask any computer question, and everyone will jump in and answer!! I could not imagine being without my puter either and the internet, even with the slow dialup!!

I don't create, but I do use just about everything out there and I'm definitely a proud female subscriber to WC! Been playing with puters since the early 80's (my first was an Apple IIc lol).

Made my first experience with computers during the good old times of MS-DOS2, 7" Floppys, absent Harddrives and Monochrome screens.

Have been lurking around here for four years, but due to my nick don't usually get recognised as a girl. I get very often called a "Dude" or "guy" until I point out that I am not.

Shy? Nah, Barb! Just pooped!

Okay, 9th female here.
I actually became involved with computers when I worked for Data General in 1974. I tested power supplies after getting certified at a technical/vocational school. The company started out making those huge mag tape computers that were used in large offices, until they grabbed onto the "mini" computer bandwagon. Some of their "new" minicomputers, like the Eclipse and the Nova were called "LCD's, which stood for Low Cost Display. I remember during an open house we held to recruit technicians, they set up their first built computer with sound. It was programmed to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star one digital note at a time. At the time it seemed quite amazing. I remember some of the techs saying that there would come a day when every home in the world would have just as many computers as they do televisions. I also remember thinking that I'd believe it when I see it!

Fast forward to the 80' and 90's when I got my first personal home computer, a Packard Bell~something or other. It had I believe 1 or 2mb of ram, 25 mgh power. No cd rom, just 3.5 and 5.25 disk drives. It was a struggle to undersstand how to "work" this thing without having it crash every other day or two. I bought two more pcs to upgrade memory and power in the late early to late 90's. I loaded everything I could into them, from recipe programs, to encyclopedias, to music programs. I also tried to get my two sons interested in them for education purposes. One son had no use for them and still doesn't, the other is a computer science major in college, and built hiss first computer at age 14. He then built my computer which is the pc desktop I still usse. I also now have a mini mac (just to get the chance to experience macs, and my Dell laptop, becausse I can't imagine even going to the bathroom without bringing this insanely piece of addicting electronic equipment with me!) I found WC a couple of years ago and joined with only the intention of downloading. But eventually, I couldn't resist giving skinning a try.

My name is Donna, I am a computer addict, and I admit it again, I sometimes take my laptop to the bathroom with me if there is an urge to sit for a while!

Count me in, I have been playing with computers since the 80's. Creating my own cards and personal things. Just started with some basic digital art and experimenting with skinning for personal use. Very addicted to WinCustomize and all the great skinners and artists here.
Hope to get better in time. I have submitted some screenshots here and some digital art at DA.
Just having fun and enjoying all the friends I have met here thru my puter.

Hey, I guess I'm the 10th female posting here? I've always messed around computers probably because we had them around the house a lot--my mom and dad both used them for work (though neither were in the computers/IT industry). My friends in middle school were mostly computer guys and a lot of my high school friends were as well. I went to a number of LAN parties before starting college, though I was only mediocre at gaming (no time for games when you're studying really hard); built my first entire computer when I was I think a frosh in high school. I'm a junior in college now (just turned 21 last month), so I don't have much to talk about as far as my career!

Interesting. One thing that seems to be common to the women here is that they have a long history in computing. But the same could probably be said for most of the guys here as well. Anyway, congrats to all the ladies who have been driving the keyboardsfor a while and may you continue to do so for many more years.

Well, that would make me the 11th of the female persuasion.
I've been using computers for years doing office type work. I've only been on-line for about 4 years....I really couldn't stand to see a computer once I'd gotten home from work! I've previously spent quite a bit of time on newsgroups, and hardly any on forums like this.
I haven't any idea how to make skins, or walls (I would really like to learn but I guess I don't have the brains as I can't seem to figure out the tutorials). I don't have any of the fancy programs, photoshop (can't afford) or anything, so that doesn't help.
I love skinning and making screenshots, and I've managed to figure that out, more or less. I'm really impressed by the people who actually make the skins, walls, etc. I like the creativity of it.
I like to put things together kind of like the Interior Designer, they don't actually make the stuff, but put it all together.
I'm pretty good at nattering on too!!!

Thought I'd throw my voice out there. Been using computers since 1982 when I was in the Air Force. Started doing computer repair in 1984. Been online since the old dial-up bulletin boards. Soooo without further ado I'll allow the next person let their voice be heard.

Oh yeah, That makes me #12.
