WC web poll...for the women

WC web poll...for the women

AS the line for number of females does not seem to be moving, how about all you female members post a "hello there"...perhaps we can get an actual number. Maybe tell how long you've been computing!!!

I'll start... First started learning how to use a computer 6 years ago, mostly just email, surfing the net...didn't start creating on the computer, till Feb. 2004...have enjoyed every minute of it, except when I have a puter problem ...and I have made lots of new friends !!

Hi Bill!

(completely missed this thread! doh) - thanx for mentioning me sleeping dragon! -
well, i've been messing around with computer for a bit more than 10 or more years. had one when dos was my main thing. messed around with a few games. nothing particularly intelligent nor sophisticated.
then when i was about 16-17 (currently 27) my mother's workplace had several pc, so i was used to going around each and messing around them. (discovered paint, etc. and got to see the evolution from win 3.1 to 95)... then when i turned 18 or so my mother got a new pc, and i discovered the internet. created a few sites (just because it was possible... they look pretty horrible in retrospective), and basically always learned as things showed up and depending on if my interest was sparked by things...
since all this, discovered skinning and skin-artistry ( ) through winamp. faked a skin once, but found so many better ones that i just learned to accept that as of now, i'm better off downloading and appreciating the works of others...
so my current focus is actually to make a nice site for my work and one for myself, as i'm much better at that! (perl, PHP/MySQL)
i've met countless great people here, but i must say i come in and out - and sometimes end up staying away for a while - because of connexion time/speed/costs here in madagascar.
nothing extraordinary! great to meet you all

CLWoods, Cynder, Fairyy, OzGirl, Jinn Fizz, Red Buzzard, Aimzzz, TBC, Jebro, 47 Songs, Boopish, dharmagirl, karmagirl, Madam Goodmorphing, iseekserendipity, aufisch,C*C, Keila, angelic destinee, CaroleLee, ... and I know I'm missing a bunch. There are a lot of women here.

it's funny because i knew some were/are women (like karmagirl, obviously from the name), but others i had no idea (never particularly thought of it). it's true i suppose that one would assume (unless specified otherwise) that someone is a man here because of the majority of men in tech in general. whenever i go to my computer shop/repair place, the techs there always presume i wont know my bootscreen from the actual os! they just presume i wont be able to do things myself if they describe the process, which can be quite annoying, so i get a huge kick out of showing them some great things i have (like wb, etc) that they don't even know! :hehe:

Don't forget two of the best skinners of all time - Alexandrie (Pixtudio) and StarOne
Reply #30 Top

There's often been a presumption that skinning is a 'bloke thing'....but it never was, really.

Not at all.

Whilst the more 'vocal' oft have male testosterone, the silent 'minority' have been creating some of the 'better stuff' out there, be it past masters of the craft like Johanne [Alexandrie] and Starone or more recently screenshot creative 'artists' like Fairyy.

Some of the legitimate names in 'the gentle touch' of skinning haven't even done a great deal - skin-wise....Chinacat, Doreen, and the originator of THE greatest thread of all time...Elfkura....[13000+ comments in a thread is something else].

Karmagirl has been Frogboy's right-hand-'man' at Stardock for that technical term called 'yonks', and is naturally an Admin here....Good Morphing is a 'Wizop' and the number one culprit for people's promotions/advancement here on the site.

Each and every one of this bunch, and others is worth their weight in gold.....because they provide a real balance to all the jocks out there who think they are God's gift to whatever.

I tip my hat to all of them/you, equally...

Also female.

Been using a PC and been online since 1989. Built one computer and I am the local "call for help" among my friends and business associates.

I actually spend more time fiddling with the computer than I do using it! (through numerous operating system re-installs, I learned what not to do)

Been into desktop modification since back in the DOS days. I had a DOS program that allowed you to choose from 256 colors. I adjusted the colors of my screen every workday to match the outfit I was wearing.

Maybe I should change my user ID to Miss Fairy

Bought first computer about 6 years ago. Use to wait until my boys came home from high school to turn it on for me. Crashed it twice in the first 2 years. Really had no idea what I was doing until my best friend took mercy on me and taught me everything I know now. buzzh58 walked me through reformatting and installing windowsXp ( well he bugged me until I gave in ) Have never regretted that decision or had puter crash since.
He introduced me to Windowblinds and we use to make screen shots and email them to each other. One day I decided to attempt to upload one here and..decided I kinda liked it after all.

And the " Ladies " thankyou for the nice compliment..

Well...im not exactly puter saavy but your right..its not like its the end of the world anymore. I learned that everything is " fixable" one way or the other. The first crash cost me 800 songs...and thats why puter gods invented back up disks. It was a painful first lesson. I even cried like a big sooky girl
