WindowBlinds 4 - Umm, where is it?

Okay, maybe everyone is tired of people asking about this, but it's been 11 days since we were told about it and still no WindowBlinds 4. I have been checking Component Manager everyday since Jan. 12th and still nothing. What's going on?

Where is WB4???

question:
has anyone got the xp shell backgrounds working? I've tried checking explorer backgrounds check boxes and the likes in the settings tab, but without success.

i can see that the beacon skin has them using skin studio, I just cant get them to display
Reply #8 Top
Yup - they work fine here for me. I just checked the box (took me a minute or two to find,) and it works with both the Blackcomb and Beacon (which I'm using now,) which came with it.

*laughs!* OH! XP shell /backgrounds/?? Oy - need to learn to read better (he says as he scrolls back up.) Ahem - I read that as shell (console,) window skinning... egads - just ignore me, I'm obviously more braindead tonight than I thought I was! O.o

I think we're both confused now! ^_^

But I was confused by your original post (read: I didn't read it closely enough and so my mind filled in the blanks on the parts of it I didn't notice!) and because of that, I confused you! YAY!

I blame this new WB alpha. ^_~

:chuckle: hehe, gotcha. So are your xp shell backgrounds working (as in my documents, my movies, control panel, etc)?

Hrm - I'm guessing you mean the little watermark like images that used to display in the bottom right of the explorer pane in the special folders?

No. I'm not. I just noticed. I /am/ getting an icon in the bottom right of the Tasks pane however ("Picture Tasks" for My Pictures, "Music Tasks" for My Music, etc.)

The skins are skinning the right side of the control panel for me - but /only/ when it's it Category View (which I never use.)

Also having serious scroll bar issues in explorer, and some graphical anomalies when resizing windows.

im having some graphical anomalies with smaller windows closing, its nothing big though. Its alpha and I expect them.

I just cant figure out why its not showing the watermark images, as you put it. I've installed it enough times, wouldve thought id be default...or maybe it is and mines just quirky

Watermarks is always what they've reminded me of - because they've always been next to invisible on my notebook. ^_^ Yeah, I wasn't expecting perfection - as you said, it's an alpha release after all. Too be honest, it's a /much/ smoother alpha than I was expecting! Many companies would call this a 'beta' so far.

I just wish they'd given us a list of known issues. ^_~

aye, id be happy to report things i notice if it helps them out, but theres no information on where/how to do that. Even the readme is dated.

Hint, hint, guys! Offer us up a list of known issues so we can know if we blunder onto anything 'new'! ^_~

:chuckle: im used to signed NDA agreements and filling bug reports for alpha beta software, with Stardock they never ask or expect a thing.

i would really like to help if any of you (stardock) are watching, just let me/us know how

Thornz - If you want to post information for Stardock I think the best place has always been the news server @ news://news.stardock.com and subscribe to the group stardock.windowblinds.development ... late

thanks. whats the difference between development and development.binaries? Do they actually use user input to help fix/correct problems? Also, as kthxbye suggested, is there a known bug list? Dont want to clutter with repeats and searching everytime can be a pain.

Issue: Shellstyles don't display, or the option to have it displayed is hard to find/enable.

Resolved issues since 3.4: Hiding keyboard shortcuts on menus finally works while windowblinds is enabled and macromedia studio mx seems to work fine, compatibility bugs have been squaaaaashed.

Pleasant suprises: Ability to display your User Icon on the Start Menu even with the welcome screen disabled, skinning the "please wait" dialog. Things generally work SUPER FAST compared to before and there's an option for adjusting fonts and taskbar sizes. Yummy

lol, my questions have been answered. Seems theyre on the ball, theres a readme on news server kthxbye

Thornz - development.binaries is for uploading screenshots and plain old development is just for the text. And yes, they do use the issues you post to help fix problems, another quality thing that Stardock does, they'll even personally respond to items you post quite frequently ... late

Heh - so I see! For some reason I never think of the newgroups (even though I'm subscribed to them all,) until somebody says "Check the newsgroups." O.o
