gang of hypocrites

gang of hypocrites

I submitted a wallpaper that I creted using Bryce that was rejected. And yet I see all kinds of Bryce art in the wallpaper list that aren't "astounding" or so your "guidlines" state. I'll just keep my work to myself from now on...thank you very much!

Approx 98% of submitted Bryce or Terragen makes it to the cutting room floor, and about 2% gets in.
59% of what gets in is still 'not great'...the other 50% is much in the method of MobiusCo...that is, you wouldn't even know it was via Bryce if he hadn't told you.
So, 1% of the submissions actually use the programs as a tool, not as 'the artist'.

We intend to retro-actively sift through the 2000-odd walls and make amends with regards to what has managed to be accepted in the past...to keep consistency with current 'high' standards/criteria.

It is important again to stress that the wallpapers are an 'adjunct' to the skins and not a prime focus.

When it is comparatively easy to 'create something that looks like a wall' it is clear we get inundated with their submissions.
In comparison,a LiteSTEP theme tends to be more 'complex' in creation and is more a 'niche' market so we get about one or two a week...no fear of being swamped there...

If walls were not moderated here, the popularity of the site would have led to a wall section more like 20,000 than 2,000....and the visitor/user would be pushing the proverbial uphill to find the 'good' from amongst the sea of 'bad'.

It's not 'hypocrisy' that the bar has been raised, but merely a transitional stage that makes it appear 'strange'...

I don't think it is bad. it is ALOT better than what i tried to upload which was rejected by the way. No sweat! I could have uploaded mine at DevArt but like i said before they will take anything, Then how will i know how to better myself. Thats why i love it here soo much!

We don't try to bash people here jav57, it was the way you came on the board.

I am sure with a little more work you can get in. You want to improve yourself don't you? You will feel much pride for yourself when you get aknowledged for what you have done

"It is important again to stress that the wallpapers are an 'adjunct' to the skins and not a prime focus."

Interesting that there are more than 2000 wallpapers...it looks to me like its the skins that are adjunct to the wallpapers...at least by my method of math.

In any case, don't do me any favors, I'll spare you the 'misery' of having to deal with yet another wallpaper.

I'll leave it to the general members to critique..

FWIW, ThemeXP appear to be rather casual when it comes to walls, I'm not satisfied with anything I've attempted so far but I would have to say it looks very much "anything accepted" at that site.
But .... there are many good pieces as well.
Haven't visited for some time but the number was around 4000+ walls and growing.

sry jav57 u had to learn about wincustomize this way, u should see my first 5 or so walls none of them were 3d they never got excepted even my first 3 or 3d walls never got excepted, its called progress, try artuproar then they moderate there walls a little less

jav57...were the wall section to be the primary 'focus' as I mentioned there'd be probably 20,000 now and not the 2000 that there is.

A quality skin for the likes of Windowblinds or WinAMP for example takes days or more of 'tweaking' to create, whereas it's possible to create a wall in 5 or 10 minutes.
Skinmaker proggies that are used to create WinAMP skins tend to be 'moderated' for the same reason....they are referred-to as 'photoskins', requiring little to no creativity or effort.
Perfect example is that a significant majority of WA skins at Winamp.com are simply a photo of 'some chick' applied to Skinmaker and a few clicks later, presto....'crappy skin'.

It's forever frustrating to have to explain the differentiation between a Photoskin and something like treetog's 'Universe'.....it should be self-evident...they are at opposite ends of the skinning spectrum...

Jafo. I think your wasting your breath. In one ear and out the other. You've said this about 40 times since I've been here.

A few things:
- We are a few moderators and we may not always be consistant with each other. But we try. It would be impossible for a single person to do all the wallpaper moderations by himself (do you any idea of the volume that gets submited? Think that about 1 wall every 20 makes it through and it's give you an idea).
- Sometimes we feel bad for rejecting so many walls, so we may actually let the less worse one through out of a bunch once in a while. For example, if I am moderating an ordinary wall on a day where I have a few very good wallpapers, it will probably not get in. But if I come upon the same wall after sending 15 rejection emails in a row, I might start to soften up and think "well, this one is not great, but it's actually not that bad compared to those I just rejected" and may let it in.
You see, moderating a wallpaper section in a skinning site is not an exact science. We do the best we can, and I'm sorry to say that it will have to suffice.

BTW: look up the word "hypocrite" in the dictionnary.
We are not that. We may not be perfect, we may make mistakes and we may let some walls in that should not be, once in a while. But we are not hypocrites.

ahhahaha!!!! I read the wallpaper submision as well. I think it makes it clear that it will be heavily moderated. What makes it through and is "crappy" could have possibly made it through more by luck than anything else. It is also possible that it made it because it was based on a skin or is a back drop for a skin.

BTW:

The wall looks ok. I lie the left side mostly. The rest looks like it needs more work.

Besides, moderators are human. Mistakes happen. And this is not really a wallpaper site. (as far as I know 2000 wallpaper is a small library comprared to other sites with 10,000 or more. That is normal)

generic shape, reflection, water, sky, blah, blah, blah...

It doesn't mean it is worse than the other million wallpapers i've seen like this, there's just nothing that screams 'craft'. apps don't make art, people do. If this were allowed in, people could upload several in an afternoon without breaking a sweat...

Now, if you take your paint program and draw that from scratch, now *that* would be artistry... but it probably still wouldn't get in because it would look just like a bryce landscape

That the Bryce we all have to pay.

Baker's right.
It's the whole round objects with a water/clouds background that throws it off. It's been done at least once by just about every person who has ever installed bryce on their computer.

If you take a similar object and put it in front of a background that you created yourself in something like Photoshop or psp, then tone down the blue chrome effect and connect it all to something else, it might work.

Pax: I applaud your honesty. It is difficult. Especially when you have to look at so many a day...Sometimes one may look better than all the others in a day and will look less with what you receive the next day. I can understand the dilemma's Very hard.
