Gay WHAT???

Gay WHAT???

What is wrong with this world? Am I just stupid or was the U.S. Constituition written while under the influence of a God fearing belief?

If the constition was written under those principles than why do the people who are also God fearing, have to refrain from using his holy name in public? People honestly wanted to change our 200+ year old pledge just because it includes the word God. And what's even worse is that I have to sit back and listen to people curse while using God's name. Maybe I'm just a crazy christian that is too blind to no the difference, but I don't think that's it.

I have the strangest feeling our forefathers didn't mean that you can't practice religion in the U.S. just that you can't FORCE your religion upon someone. Saying the pledge is not forcing christian ethics upon anyone, it's just asking Americans to have some respect for their country.

Gays can get married, legally, now. All I have to say about this one is, keep them out of court rooms and churches when doing this, because the church is (or at least mine is) against homosexual marriages. Then you have the court rooms which have the american flag right in your face.

If you haven't noticed yet, I'm a christian and I can't stand the fact that we are letting people like this get away with what they are doing. You don't see me going around yelling at people for not praying, so why yell at me FOR praying? I'm not even speaking for crying out loud.

Oh, and then there's schools... This sucks big one's! You don't have to pledge anymore and the principal can't ask you to take time to pray and/or meditate. I remember, in 3rd grade, we would always do morning pledge and then the moment of silence for prayer or meditation. It was harmless. If you don't want to pray, you had time to sit and think. If you wanted to pray and not feel weird you could. Suddenly, out of nowhere we weren't aloud to do those things anymore. Now, to pray you look like a freak and everyone thinks your a loser that doesn't deserve to have friends.

So, what am I? Am I an idiot for even thinking that God is good? Maybe that's why we're having so much trouble in this world now. People won't accept that God isn't a word to bind you into one religion, but a word to symbolize the greatness of our country... if you won't accept it as a holy being. Or perhaps I'm a psychotic homophobe who can't even function in the same world as a homosexual or bisexual (no real dif.).

According to standard Catholic doctrine (and most Christian ones too, I believe) you are born in a state of sin. This is why baptism is such a big deal for Catholics, if you don't get baptized you aren't cleansed of that original condition.

I am with carebear. I have never heard this one. You are born yourself and you make a choice in what direction you want to go and what path you want to follow.

Hey, I'm glad this one's calming down some, I guess that this is just a more easy going topic than my others?

Dharma~ I'm sorry to hear about your son breaking his arm. Umm... oh yeah, I'm also sorry I mistook your reply, actually I thought you were lashing out at God for allowing bad things to happen in general, and that's why I said what I did. To be honest I'm not exactly sure why he does that but you do know that somethings do just happen because they can, right? That's how I look at most bad things that happen to me.

I'm going to try and stay away from commenting on carebear's "odd" reply because, to be honest, I think I know where she was going but also have trouble putting words to it.

Well, I think we need some more "debate" on here, so can I ask another question?

In the bible it says that any man that can keep from marrying should do so, but that marriage is good. My parents had a divorce about 4, almost 5, years ago, and I was just wondering if maybe their will power had something to do with it, because divorce is frowned upon in the Baptist churches that I've been to. So, is it better to get married or stay single and just continue on with your life as you have before?

According to Dante's Inferno, Limbo is where the unbaptized but otherwise virtuous souls go.... Now admittedly Dante is not canon, but I understood that his overall beliefs were representative of the Church.

Yeah divorce is a big no no in Catholic churches. The Catholic chruch would rather you stay married unless the husband is beating the wife or the children. Or something like that. I think that God wants us to get married, but if we decide to make that decision then, he expects us to live up to it and stay married. And if you can't do something like that then he would rather you stay single. Does that make any sense?

It's ok..we all have times like that!

Yeah we do. Thanks.

Capt.: Not to get bogged down in the big religious debate, but according to Paul, it is better to remain unmarried and devote yourself to the Lord. If you have sexual desire that you cannot resist (who doesn't?) then it is better that you marry so that you can "get your freak on". 1 Corinthians 7 : 1 - 2 & 8 - 9 talk about this specifically, but the entire chapter up until verse 17 has to do with marriage.

Hope that helps at least a little bit!

I'm not sure what you mean by this.  Can you clarify it a little for me?

Yeah I'm going with what Texas Wahine is saying. It makes sense. It kinda adds to what I was trying to say. If you're going to stay single then you are supposed to devote yourself to God.

Ok, for one this is not what us Catholics believe. We do not believe that Mary was a sin free person. We believe that she was a virgin even though she had a baby. It was God's gift to her and to the world. So we're saying she had Jesus with out having sex. And Catholics don't get their babies babtized right away. That's a lie big time! I don't know where you got that from, but it's not true. I didn't get baptized until almost a year after I was born. We're not like that at all.

Actually Ashley, Catholics do believe that Mary was free from sin.

Pope John Paul II has confirmed that Mary was conceived without sin.

"Mary, "full of grace", has been recognized by the Church as "all holy and free from every stain of sin", "enriched from the first instant of her conception with the splendour of an entirely unique holiness" (Lumen gentium, n. 56)."

As for the baptism...it's not a lie--from my experience (yes, I'm Catholic too, I might actually know what I am talking about!) most Catholics have their babies baptized within the first couple of months--that is "right away" compared to some Protestant churches where you don't get baptized until you are six or seven. Instead of being so quick to call me a liar, maybe you should have asked me to clarify.

I'm honestly suprised that as practicing Catholics you wouldn't know this. You should read the catechism--the story of Adam and Eve had consequences for all of us...

Here's a slice of the catechism for you--

402 All men are implicated in Adam's sin, as St. Paul affirms: "By one man's disobedience many (that is, all men) were made sinners": "sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all men sinned."[289] The Apostle contrasts the universality of sin and death with the universality of salvation in Christ. "Then as one man's trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one man's act of righteousness leads to acquittal and life for all men."[290]

403 Following St. Paul, the Church has always taught that the overwhelming misery which oppresses men and their inclination towards evil and death cannot be understood apart from their connection with Adam's sin and the fact that he has transmitted to us a sin with which we are all born afflicted, a sin which is the "death of the soul".[291] Because of this certainty of faith, the Church baptizes for the remission of sins even tiny infants who have not committed personal sin.[292]

Oh, I have a joke kinda thing....If you're Catholic and easily offended....please do not read....

The basic belief of Catholicism is if it feels good, stop. (That's from Adam Ferrara I believe)

Sorry, but all this Catholic talk kinda made me remember it....

citahellion, Dante's view is certainly inspired by Catholicism, but it's not really representative of the Church. Due to his respect for the Ancient Masters (by which I mean Greek writers and Philosophers), he goes easy on "virtuous pagan," meaning those that died never hearing the "word of God." The reason why he created Limbo and put the ancient Greeks and Romans there was mostly because he would have felt bad condemning these Great people to eternal suffering. That's also why Virgil ended up as his guide.

His views were not really indicative of official Church dogma, however. Though I think the Comedy was earnestly his view of what the afterlife would be like.

Yes, these are all basic tenets of Catholic belief. It surprises me that Catholics here would first hear of it.

Ok, so maybe I was wrong about it. But I've never heard of that in my church. They have never taught it to us. And the babies at my church aren't baptized right away. So my bad Shades!

Ok, I don't think it's too fair to leave the baptists out the ridicule (sp?), so let's give a nice bit of Baptist insight here.

Have you ever noticed that baptists never move their hips? Ashley, Jessica, or whoever else wants to know, that might explain some of the guys at school...

Or howabout our applauds? We don't have one. You have the golf clap and then the next step in silent clapping is Baptist clapping... *silence*... that's about it for us.

Of course these aren't really jokes but this kind of thing has shown up on comedy central a time or two that I've seen.

NOW... Poetmom, I'm sorry I wasn't clear at all in what I said, but basically I was wandering if maybe, the reason why my parents got a divorce was because they didn't...umm, know how to control themselves in the first place, so they got married due to that. Then in effect to their hasty marriage they get a divorce.

Do you think that might be the gist of what went on between them?

Actually he won't. But if you've ever been over to a Baptist church you'll notice that there is absolutely no "wiggling" around from the "old people". They don't believe in it... even thought Baptists believe that oral sex isn't really sex... that's one of those times in which I leave the beliefs of my church.

Also, after someone sings or whatever, they don't clap, usually. That's because clapping means that you're congratulating the person where an "A-men" is congratulatory towards God.
