Got Windows Vista? Got Object Desktop? Then animate your wallpaper

image
DeskScapes provides animated wallpaper for all users of Windows Vista.

Animated wallpaper isn't just for Windows Vista Ultimate users anymore.  With the release of beta 1 of DeskScapes 2.0 on Object Desktop, all users of Vista can use the hundreds of available .DREAM files here on WinCustomize as their animated backgrounds.

Object Desktop users also get some exclusive animated wallpaper content including four dynamic dreams (Water Dream, Earth Dream, Water Color, and Box Sample).

If you don't have Object Desktop, you can get it here.

Just uninstalled all non-standard codecs, cleaned the registry, rebooted, and installed CCCP and all dreams are running well.

Thanks Stardock!

This is brilliant and all, but I found that when I have a dream running, I can't move any of the desktop Icons. Any idas why or anyone else had this problem. I'm using Home Preium by the way.

Depending on the length of the video my CPU can be higher or lower.  The dynamic dream use almost nothing.

I just noticed that when i use my Browser that cpu stayed super high. Did not know that it was minimized, But once i Maximized my window it jumped way down. Very Cool

Very Awesome

I really like how SoundPackager moves soundpacks to the appropriate directory on execution.  I wonder if dreams will act the same way in the final release.

Since my XP computer that I loaded Vista Ultimate crashed
I been out of the " Dream Biz " , I rebuilt it but with XP
back on ..... I bought a new Vista Premium computer and have
been waiting for this program to arrive , thanks to Stardock
all is well again in Dream Land - I loaded all 29 of my previous

I can not get the dreams to work. Vista will not recognize the .dream file format and when I click on a dream file it asks what program I want to use. What am I doing wrong. I have Vista Home Edition on a Dell XPS running an Nvidia graphics card with tons of memory.

What version of DS?  What OS?  Dynamic andvideo dreams?
I am running Windows Vista Premium Home Edition. I am assuming DS is Deskscapes. I intalled it from SDC. I am at work right now so I do not know what version for sure but I think it was 1.90....something. I am running XP at work which does not help as you cannot use dreams in XP. Not sure what you mean by "Dynamic andvideo dreams?" When I run the program and browse to the dream folder nothing shows up. When I go to the dream folder by browsing in explorer I see the files but cannot get them to run when I click on them. It takes me to a dialog where it says it cannot find the program to open the file. If I point to the deskscapes application to open it nothing happens. It is almost like I am running a prior version of deskscapes where only Vista Ultimate users could apply the dream files.

I tried that but I got some kind of error that says I need admin rights to uninstall. I am pretty sure I was logged in as admin as I am the designated administrator. Anyway I will try again when I get home. Also windowblinds would not update to the new version and the update failed and I got some kind of access error. I wonder if this is the same problem. I could not uninstall it either for the same reason as above. I do not have admin rights or something to that effect.

I am the admin of my PC too, but to install I have to Run as Admin

Vista Business Users: Looks like we'll need a much better "You don't have MPEG on your machine" message than whatever it has now. .Dream files support MPEG and WMV. Windows Vista ULtimate and Home Premium support .MPEG and .WMV but Business and Enteprrise only support .WMV.

I can use all Dreams on my Vista Enterprise, both .wmv and .mpeg files. I have the K-Lite codec package installed which may help link to codec

OK, to get this clear in my head, some of you guys are saying that 1.90[b].023 is actually DeskScapes 2.0, beta 1. I suppose that my confusion is that Object Desktop is calling it DeskScapes 2.0 Beta 1 and not the other way around.

What is teh error?  Are you running Vista?  IF so, try to run as admin.

Fixed it.. don't know what was wrong. I uninstalled SDC and cleaned out my computer and reinstalled it and its working fine now.. whewwww..!!!  happy camper...

Thanks Zu. I right clicked on the SDC application and ran as admin. Did not know you could do this. Everything works great now I was even able to update windowblinds. Thanks again.

Ok, this has to be the most unstable beta SD have released (for me anyway, most others are 90%+ in stability). I'm not sure what's going on, but it locks up my Vista Enterprise constantly while running dynamic dreams (Liquid Dream in this case).

It always happens when maximising a window or coming out of a sleep situation.

I never had any such issues when I used to have Ultimate and DeskScapes 1.02 (sold the laptop that had it, now running Enterprise on a MBP).

I posted all my driver and OS specs earlier.

It's only annoying because I like the app and skins so much.

One request I would make for a subsequent version is to add the option to change the default location for Dream files. If the user directory is mapped to a network share, it wants to put everything on the network. Otherwise, great Beta 1.
