As it is in life some people just can't stand seeing fun being had by others. Has it gotten somewhat out of hand with the threads and posts, sure, anymore than some of the other rants and whinning that gets posted here, no.

I don't want to put words in peoples mouths or try to interpret what was posted here, but you could very quickly get the impression that all life, as it would be considered on the site, only centers around skinning and people who skin. Not a bad concept, although not very pratical.

Not everyone wants to or has the time, talent and drive to develope and make skins. We do however like to change how our computer screens look and use those skins that have been so nicely download in the galleries here.

Now before someone starts to interpret what I'm trying to say, let me state that without the talented skinners this sine would not be here. Having said that, just how long would the site stay up with out folks that, yes, are users of a product for what it gives them.

I don't want to be long winded on this so let me end saying that everyone who uses the Stardock software, whether a skinner or user of the skins, wants some sort of recognition when they put elements together and make what they feel is a nice, usuable desktop.

If you have checked out any of the ScreenShots you'll notice that recognition is given to the skinners whose skins are being used. That's all the Rat Pack is about, plain and simple.

Whats wrong in having fun,I see and understand what some people are thinking and why I guess it is like the old saying goes you can please some people some of the time but you can't please people all of the time

While I disagree with sectioning off groups here as this is a community of skinners and skinnies and doesn't need to be broken down into sects, I think this all looks like some good harmless fun.

It may be for everyone but it is usually skinners and the people that ' hang out ' together that post their shots there. Although the thread seems shorter and shorter than in the ' old' days.

Most ' skinners' do not want screen shots listed in their " skins " list.

Some folks upload screenshots so often it'd be hard to know if they were usable or not.  Many are too busy for me.No one suggested it go away . . just that there were many related threads sprinkled about and that consolidation (and an external site) might allow for more freedom with less disruption to others.

Screenshot have their place.  They are good marketing for the artists and Stardock (if proper credit is given).  They allow people to be a part of something.  But like anything else . . moderation is a good thing.

I pop over to the Screenshots once in a while and read the descriptions and the comments.  My wish would be for the posts to have credit to the artists given more often and to hear from the poster WHY they think this layout is worth uploading.  Something like "I chose this skin for this and that dock for that and I really liked this icon set but because I was looking for X I ended up with Y".

Thats not a bad idea at all...
But one thing i have noticed is that the members doing screen shots now are in fact listing each element and artist - something that has always bugged me to death when I see something in a SS and have no idea where to find it ( Links to each item would be even better )

I'm impatient, I do not want to wait until the SS maker comes back to answer me - I just move on to the next shot and avoid that persons next Screen Shot - although, a gentle reminder to a ' new ' Screenie maker that credits are not mandatory but is really the point of it all - works in most cases.

I'm off to make a " Garish " screen shot or Garnish or whatever - maybe next week that PigRat will be mine ( although I prefer the Tiara )

Some of you have Spoiled Cindy's Special Day !

OK here it goes....First, CONGRATS SHENAYNAY! Your award is well deserved. it is obvious to me that you have strived to create some beautiful desktops this week. Next, Limiting the number of threads regarding "Rat Packers" is fair, as to not flood the forums...And Lastly, I think what the Rat Pack does in the screenshot gallery is a wonderful thing. It gives them a chance to showoff all of the wonderful things that you can get from WC and do with a desktop, which not only encourages new members to make their desktops just as hot, and at the same time honors skinners whose work is being used! There's nothing wrong with the Rat Pack having a voice and lots of FUN!

I used to upload my desktop to the monthly thread till they added steps to do so.  Now I just put up a SS now and then and delete it within 3-5 days.  That way I don't get a skinners count for it.  Wouldn't sit right with me, but thats me.
