Sorry, but I don't get what this rat-thing is all about except spamming the forums and comments all over (and even with giant letters and 'fancy' blinking animated gifs I thought we where finally getting over on the net). Cant' read anything here without that rat thing envolved anymore...

Sorry, but I have a different opinion. What is a 'Screenshot Artist' ? I see some people doing 6 or more screenshots of their machines in a short period and ask myself : Do they actually USE any of the setups they show ? Answer for me is often 'No', so why even do a screenie of something one isn't going to use at all ? One answer (I will of course discuss about): 'Attention'. And to promote skins or themes there are already screenshots with the skins and the features by the site and it's mods.

And WC is one of the best websites on the net already, going back to the nineties with big animated gifs and huge letter posts will not make it any better.

Also they get a download count for the SS just like skinners get.

Ok,so bear with me here I'm not much of a forum poster,and certainly no expert on graphics etc. but screenshots....aren't they just screen captures of other peoples work?Surely all they show is that the user is capable of configuring the software used to load the relevant skins and is able to arrange them on his/her desktop in an aesthetically pleasing way..
Yes I uploaded my desktop screenshot to the May comp. but only the one,as it is the one I use daily,so I'm with c242 on this.I mean,If I went to London tomorrow and took a good photograph of the Houses of Parliament or St.Pauls Cathedral does that make me partially responsible for their magnificence ?  Just my opinion.   

Essentially that's it in a nutshell.

Once upon a time, when skinning was in its infancy it was a case of the majority of skin-site forum posters were actual skinners rather than users only, so the 'screenshot' gallery was a place where WIPs were displayed...for input/critique/mouth-wetters.

These days they [screenshots] have generated a life of their own.

Some may scratch their heads and wonder why.....others just enjoy creating them.

Each to his own...

That aside it may be a good move to consolidate the Rat Packing threads a tad. They have been kinda running a bit "butt wild" I'm sure no one is opposed to anyone else having their own brand of fun as long as it isn't obtrusive to other users.

Personally I enjoy browsing their screenies and offering a cheerful and motivating word once in a while, gives me a way to escape skinning for a bit and there's nothing wrong imo with people using diff desktop configs. and posting them as a way to provide themselves enjoyment.

I think perhaps the # of threads and huge influx of flashy gifs that may be causing a little alarm within the ranks.

Moderation is nearly always a good thing.   

And is that their fault ?

I have made a point of that over and over that Screen Shots should have a ' view' button, not a download button. I delete all my screen shots because I do not want a ' fake ' download count.

Most of us do not feel we are welcome to post our screen shots on the monthly thread. It has always appeared that its for ' special' people.



AND.. it gives others ideas on how to arrange their desktops is a pleasing way. Some do not have the ability to mix and match items so they look at screen shots.
Its also a way that skinners get to see what others are using and how they are using their work. Whats the point of making anything if all you have are ratings and download counts at the end of the day ?

And dont be fooled - the ' top windowblind ' skinners never miss out viewing the screen shots to see if their blinds / skins are being used. That you can bank on.

Do I think this thread is a bit overkill? Yes. A tad...

But would you all prefer to see more serious posts that will bring on fighting and dissension ?

i enjoy saw the screenshots, there so many sweet setup made by the non-skinners and i think artists/skinners can take this in the right way: as a compliment and a we like your work keep it up/keep improve it. it's my opinion
