The problem with developing separate versions is that then everybody suffers, because focus and manpower would be going in two different directions. I'd rather they focus their development on the current standard, and those using the old standard can continue to use the 3.x series indefinitely. What are some of your favorite screen savers? I don't get it. Why would Deviantart have a final, but Nullsoft only has a release candidate? Even the main Winamp home page only mentions a release candiate preview. In short, I'll believe it's final when Nullsoft says it's final.

Actually, it's a release candidate, not the final version. They clearly state that there may be bugs and the version you see might differ from the final version. I agree with others that v4 would be a good time to drop 9x support. New version numbers are major upgrades anyway, and people who bought or upgraded to v3 can't reasonably feel cheated, and they could continue to use v3. I would also imagine that's far enough away that the XP userbase will grow even quite a bit more. Perhaps you could continue to fix any bugs that arise on v3 for 9x users (at least for awhile), but freeze the development aspect, and concentrate all your development e

Thanks everyone. It looks like the consensus is it's okay to just give credit, provided it's in a .suite file (which is just links to their work anyway). That makes a lot of sense, and is probably better for all concerned anyway.

keymastr - Brian just pointed out to me that you can right-click a file and tell it to download later. That will avoid that warning, though I agree that it should be smart enough to just queue something if a file is already downloading. That warning is extremely irritating. And I'm on broadband. You can disable it from msconfig or Startup Cop or any other startup utility. Then just reboot and it will be gone. To turn it back on, you can then do it from your startup utility or from the control panel mouse properties. As for system resources, I would imagine it would depend on the package you're using.
