I realize this does not answer the spirit of your question, but if you set the number of planets to aboundand and the number of habital planets to rare, you won't have that problem. The problem you will have if finding a habitable planet before the AIs get to it.
A mentioni was made of saving the political party and abilities after setting them up. How do you do that. The save button on my screen is greyed out and cannot be pressed. Every game I have to reselect everything.
I've played several games now where the highest PQ I've seen is 26 or 28. One I colonized at the start and one I flipped. The alien had hardly filled in any of the squares, so I had lots of places to build all those wonders and trade goods.
On the "Pick You Race" page, when you select Terran Alliance, in the Race Tech box, you start with Hyperdirve, Xeno Communications, and Xeno Engineering.. I have not found any problems building a Colony Ship and/or Scout from the very start. Have to wait to build Freighters until you research Trade, but can build everything else.
Posted in the wrong trhread. When examining the Stats page for Terrans, when you click on the page, all the blude lines disappear and ou are left with black background and white data, letters, etc.
When you examine the Stats for Terran and click on the Stat display, all the blue lines diasppear and your are left with a black background and data, no lines, boxes, etc.

Frozen pointer bug still here. Visable point freezes and the pointer then can move, but it is invisable. have to reboot to recover the pointer, even in windows.

Playing "Challenging" level and have reached a point that the game keep CTD with the following message from Windows XP Pro. "Instruction 0x4fe7725b referenced memory location 0x04f85010 Memory could not be written. The addresses are not the same each time, just the mesage. I tried reloading the game and doing different things so that the same activities were not being set up before the crash. Finally gave up on that game.
Just finished a Normal game (yes, I won, my first Normal win with all 9 aliens) I got a lot of warnings that if I let fleet xx (some number) continue that the Drengin would attack the Yor. Now, as much as I would have liked to see that, I send no, don't continue. Something got twisted around thinking the I, playing Terran, was eithr Yor or Drengin.
In a recent game there appeared on the build list something called "basic support" I had not seen that before so I built it. What came out was a Defender Ship, but there was no Defender in the build list.
I have also seen this problem. I had to reboot to get my mouse back.
Another feeze of the game with the Turn button depressed. Have to do a hard reboot.

After pressing the key to end the turn, the key never returns. you can move the map ony a small amount in each direction. Have to do a reload to get the game going again, but after several turns, the same problem appears again. this seems to happen midway through the game or later, but not at the beginning. This may not be the right thread for this, but whenever GC II minimizes to the toolbar and then expand it agein, it posts an error about a failed code and terminates. Must reload the game and pick up from the last autosave.

Of course, that make it even more fun, because I can tax at 100% and spend at 100% and have the best economy of all the AIs. In fact, if you don't do that it take too long to build colony ships or do the research that you can do. Soil Improvement for exmple starts out at 144 weeks to comlete. A little slow.

I have never CTDed on colonization. I have on other events, like invastion, and sometime just presing the turn button.
I have seen the same think. Sometime a planet that could be seen properly turns black. My system spec's are 3.6GHz Intel CPU, 1 GB memory, nvidea 6800 ultra with 256 MB of memory.
I don't understand what you are asking. Is there an item in a .ini file that we set to the target. My target for the .exe file is "F:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming.net\GalCiv2\GalCiv2.exe"

I remember seeing in another post that as you perform research, the technology for upgrading you factories, etc will be available and they can be upgraded.
