So - Lesson learned! Thank-you Publius of NV for your comment. It is important to read the fine print of the challenges: The Infinite Archive challenge has a sentence I did not read carefully enough: "Beware, this will give our technology to all other civilizations." I have been gaming long enough to be jaded by all the "window dressing" of the fluff put into much of the text that I never read it anymore.....lessoned learned.

I was playing a created race of my own that was tech research focused. In the later stages of the game, I was vastly outstripping all opponents in tech when suddenly every race had every tech that I had! No event, no warning, i Just went to the trading screen and every opponent had every tech that I have AND they had some techs that I hadn't researched yet. As soon as I got a new tech (next turn), I could trade that tech with the opponents, but they had all my tech (simultaneously) in one tur

I am playing the ToA campaign and when I get to the point where I am suppose to blow up the star with my "Fully operational terrorstar"; The nice game asks me "Are you sure you want to blow you and all your colonies up?" (I'm paraphrasing), to which I answer "That is the victory condition so....full steam ahead: Blow it all up.....blow it up real good!!!" (actually that is in my head...I just click on 'yes'). Then....nothing.....the terrorstar doesn't move - doesn't do anything...no

I have the most up to date drivers and a relativly new computer and I still have consistant crashes during the campaign. I have uninstalled, re-installed checked for most recent drivers, cleansed the computer of all possible interferences and I still get crashes near the end of one of the campaign module "Achilles heel". I have loaded this game on to my lap top and another computer....crash...crash...crash. It is not my computer or software. The game has a flaw (many other posts in this forum in

I'd like to add an extra note to your dilema if I may. Eventhough you have solved your problem, there is something you (and everyone) should know ;) . If You can beat the other races to excalibur technology by at least 10-15 turns then you can easily win the game. One Excalibur will take on entire fleets of avatars and rangers with little more than a dent. If you can get excalibur technology and have enough time to churn out two or three of them before anyone else gets them then you can wipe out

Thought I would revive this thread because we haven't beat it to death yet. I have tried a few games without luck now (I always used to spend the one point for +25% luck) and found that luck must have something to do with the +PQ events and definately has something to do with "fortune" ships and precursor ship finds. I think the Arceans must have a luck bonus because whenever I destroyed the Arceans early in the game the +PQ event NEVER happens but if they are alive or if I have the +25% luck th

The reason you can't get to those far away planets is because your warships have a limited range (you may notice that your scouts or freighters can reach this area). The only way to get your ships there is to build a base within striking range of the enemy. You can either use a constructor to build a starbase (no specific modules needed, just one constructor) within range or conquer a planet within range. You will need to wait a turn after you build your base before the extended range is availab

An added question/note on alignment: 70 may cause your screen to change to"good" (i.e. blue on white selection buttons) but I think you need to be REALLY good to get some of the techs associated with morality. Most notably "hypertrade", I have had an alignment of 76 and I could not get the hypertrade tech until I was much more saintly. Does anyone know what the cut off is for this and other morality dependant techs? (I don't know anything about evil techs because I never play evil). ;)

The espionage system definately needs to be revamped. You should keep the two sliders, but make one of them "internal security" and one of them "espionage". Depending on what techs you research will not only determine how good your security or espionage is but also where it is directed. For instance if you researched a new tech called "fanatacism" you would get a boost in both security and destructive espionage (suicide bombers), whereas "encryption decoding" would give you a boost only in milit

Someone out there must know exactly which calculations luck is involved in :notsure: . C'mon where are all those teenage hackers that have nothing better to do than play games and rip apart lines of code just to see how it works? :SURPRISED:

Ahhhh....I See.....so not all of those doo-dads at the bottom of the posts are window dressing :SURPRISED:. Thnx for the tip. -Fanamar kicks himself for being as stupid as an AI set on "easy"- :p

P.S. I would like to add that my least favorite post is Genita el Bohem's long self indulgent diatribe on the environment in her post entitled "Mataphysical...something something" :( (sorry don't remember exact name). Genita...You have way too much time on your hands....but then I'm just as bad for actually taking the time to dis the post....sorry for my self indulgent whining.

Okay, stupid question time. How do I mark a post as "on my watch list"? ;p Also This might be a good place to ask everyone what their favorite post is or who their favorite (GalCiv Forum) author is. My Favorite is "Useful Links" by Frogboy. Thnx dude! :HOT:

Does anyone out there play Maso level games with +25% or +50% luck bonus? Does it help on starting position or do you get better anomalies? I know I don't find Rangers or other super ships when I play Maso with +25% luck. It would be nice to know what random calculations the luck bonus is used with :d This would give me a better idea of which level of play the luck bonus is best utilised with ;)

59 Replies 8,069 Views

I think that the luck bonus really helps when you are playing some of the easier levels, but on Maso I have never seen an increase in anything due to luck. Although I have rarely played with no luck bonus (+25% luck for one point seems a good investment) So I don't really know what a Maso game would be like without +25% luck :notsure:

I don't know if this cheat already exists but I would really like to know what the AI's have there settings at and what they have built and what their bonuses are etc... ;) . If there is a "Look at the AI's screens" cheat I'd like to know it. This would help to understand how different majors play the game. Afterall, I never see a post on the strategies forum from the Arcean or the Yor :notsure:

I just finished a masochist game (medium, close, occasional) as a good race :) . I noticed that some of the techs that should be available (to any alignment) are missing. Specifically Hyper trade and some other higher up techs. I started out as neutral of course and got the "good" status about half way through. I understand that some techs aren't available to me depending on what my alignment is but where did hypertrade go? I could view the thread on the pop up right to most of these missing tec

A better idea might be super-duper sling shots :SURPRISED: ! If you could build a starbase in your home sector that will throw ships up to 5-10 parsecs away (in a controlled manner) so that your ship would end up where you wanted it. This could lead to super-duper sling shot interdictors so that you could build a starbase that would stop invasion fleets from dropping in on your home planet sectors >:( . Just a thought.

So there I was doing pretty well with a large universe, good alignment, occasional planets, loose clusters. It was mid game I just got dreadnaught tech. and was somewhat ahead of the other majors (still a close race though). When I get this event...."evil forces are gathering on your planet gladstone..." Then a few turns later - Bam - The Draginol (some evil race that is extremly advanced) take over my planet and have a few overlords and about 150,000 cash on hand. Hmmm this could be a problem

Another game crash I found: Maso, Tiny, occasional, only a couple of years into game (just got battleship tech.). I invaded the last YOR planet and thus destroyed their civilization :sniff!: After the "The Yor have finally succumbed to the relentless....blah blah blah" screen, The planet screen for the newly aquired planet comes up and I hit the "Details" button...poof the game closes down back to windows. I had saved the game just before the invasion so I tried it again...poof - game crash. If

I have a question (or four)..... Is There any way to become "more good" without planet events? Does starting wars or eliminating a race make you "more evil"? Can you trade "good" & "evil" techs to those not of the appropriate alignment? and where can you find what your alignment is? :notsure:

I am playing a maso game, medium size, tight clusters. I have not been below 10,000 credits or 100% productivity for a long time. I started with +50% diplo and traded the alexians for the translators. The Alexians have been very generous to me and usually trade about 300 or more for 20 turns in exchange for a handfull of techs :CONGRAT: . The other minor races won't give me squat (so I waited until they were well developed and killed them). I am using 1.05. Is this different in 1.09?
