Is there any source that can provide stats on usage of >60Hz monitors/GSync/Adaptive Sync? I know they're still very uncommon, but they make a big difference and they're being pushed by a lot of monitor makers. It's a pity that the Steam, Unity, and now GalCiv III hardware surveys don't have any information on it.
Good question. I have one, so... that's 1 person... <

Honestly, loot systems are hard, look at Diablo 3, it's in a pretty damn fun place now but it took them an expansion and many, many patches to get to that place. Personally, I think "legendary" power level items are most interesting when they incentivize completely changing the way you play. For example: "I got the Sword of Minion Sacrifice and now I can sacrifice units in battle to deal massive damage to enemies, my strategy is no longer 'send out my
But AFTER that one I have two questions I’d like to get your views on: 1. How OFTEN do you want to see new DLC? (Monthly, Quarterly, Every couple months, etc.) 2. What would you like to see our NEXT DLC be? a. Stamps pack (for more random map generation interest) b. More tactical battles maps c. More magical spells d. New factions e. More loot f. More quests g. Something else (if it involves writing c++ code,

Building up my heroes and armies and finding items to synergize with them in cool ways (for instance one of the ridiculous legendary shields for a tank character). Tactical battle in general, and various approaches of raw strength vs. swarming enemies vs. magical solutions. Improving my empire such that it supports my heroes and units (with better magic items, spells, etc.). In general I find the military side of the game a lot more compelling than I do most 4x-type
I am skeptical on whether 4X MP can be fun outside of very small galaxies. But the alpha will have multiplayer in it (it's not going to be a feature that comes late, it's already in now in our builds). I do think that 2 vs. AI might be fun. It'll be interesting to see how this works out.
Just wanted to chime in and say that I've played hundreds of hours of Civ V and Civ IV and most of those were coop with my girlfriend or a friend in tea

Any ETA on when we get to try it out? :) I remember playing the GalCiv 2 alpha/beta when you first released it and it was waaaaaaaaay more rough than that GC3 screenshot (the ships had no textures, for one), so I hope you'll let us in soon!

As for cloud integration for the Music app, there is a music matching/cloud locker service for any music you buy from the store (it gets stored in the "cloud locker" and you can stream it any time without downloading it, it gets a little icon like ((O)) next to it I think) and I think there's supposed to be some way to match music you already own to do that too without re-buying it but I honestly have no idea if that's possible yet and if so then how you do it. Other than that, you can

For SkyDrive integration, doesn't SkyDrive just provide a file picker contract as long as you have the SkyDrive app installed? So in the music app for instance, if you bring up the app bar and click Open File, then in the top right change the Files dropdown to SkyDrive and you can open a file in your SkyDrive that way? Or am I misunderstanding what you are trying to do? I expect I am but I'm afraid I don't quite understand then.

Anyone else have green or bluish outlines around the pages on iPad 3? For some reason both the PDFs listed in the link have thick green (and in the case of the slim, turquoise) outlines around every page, whether I view it in the browser, iBooks, or Dropbox. Oddly enough the (outdated) version you can download from the Steam store does not have this issue, and looks beautiful. The PDF version of the Hiergamenon in the OP also looks great for me. Is it just me with this issue?

So I did a bit more tweaks last night, turns out I hadn't actually been disabling Pedestrians (disabled it at one point but forgot to restart the game). If I turn Pedestrians and Outlines off I actually get acceptable framerate most places (it dips down to 29 or so if I have a couple cities in view, but I can deal with that). Still a lot worse than at the start of the game though. Pedestrians makes by far the biggest difference on my machine (which has a pretty weak CPU, for some

Chiming in with my experience: Like some others, the game starts out buttery smooth at 60FPS and then drops to 20 or less as the game goes on (especially when I have more than one city in view, but even when I have nothing but scenery in view it still tends to hover around 30). I have tried out the unofficial Turtle build and saw no real difference in performance, unfortunately. Compared the same save file between official build and this one, and my city-full area hovers aroun

Just want to chime in and say I'm having the same problem. Game starts out buttery smooth at 60FPS and then drops to 20 or less as the game goes on (especially when I have more than one city in view, but even when I have nothing but scenery in view it still tends to hover around 30). I tried out the unofficial build and it might have a helped slightly but not much, so I'm going back to the official for now since the unofficial also seems to break a few random things (l

I broad terms, I agree with you. The first couple games have kept my interest, and I feel like there is enough good writing there to keep it from becoming stale right away, but I really do feel that there is not enough variety for it to not become stale quickly. I too miss the sort of intense variety that FFH2 had. Compared to all the different factions in that game, which not only had completely different playstyles and tech trees, but also very different aesthetics, I feel l

Happened again, same situation, after choosing a tech. Hopefully three dumps of the same problem on three different occasions will help you track this down, it makes the game very hard to play on my computer right now since I am guaranteed a crash every couple of research breakthroughs. Third Dump

I hit the crash again! I had loaded the same game as before (from an earlier manual save, the autosaves both froze the game if I tried them), kept playing past where it crashed before and I was able to research another 6-7 techs before having the game once again CTD when clicking Continue after choosing a specific tech during a breakthrough. Agree with the OP's points, all the ones related to cities in particular have been bothering me since Beta 1. Especially compared to something like Civ 4 where they made it so easy to change what a city is building, I find that it takes way too many clicks to build or train anything, and too many clicks (that is, more than zero) to see what a city is currently building and how long it will take. It also bothers me how when you select a city, it locks your camera to it in a lim

The global resource pool is what he is talking about. It's not "annoying" it is an abstraction borne of the fact that it used to be the way you describe but people didn't like it, and more importantly, it didn't work for what the game is supposed to be, and that is ultimately not an intricate simulation of production chains (like the Settlers or Anno series). That kind of thing just adds too much micromanagement that gets in the way of what the game is really

My first crash so far, I had just finished researching the 3rd or 4th level of Civilization and after choosing a specific tech (Civics?) the game crashed to desktop. While playing the new Beta 1Z last night, I took some notes about strange or counterintuitive UI decisions that I think should be considered: The faction customize screen gives you a list of different bonuses you can assign, with each entry having a check-box on the left and cost on the right. For some reason, this screen confused me when I first saw it, and I had to look at it several times to figure out which check-box belonged with which option. I would suggest abandoning th
Ironically, even with this whole explanation, a much more simple short reply would have been enough. His own word basically say that any tax imposed on the business would be put in the price of the item being sold so the buyer basically ends up paying for it. Now, his point is to tax more to help the poor but it's the poor that buy these products that the businesses hide the tax in. Basically, he's admitting that he is OK with taxing the poor and middle class

When activating the autoexplore function, it seems like the unit will continue to autoexplore until you once again click on the autoexplore button in its actions tab (and there's nothing in the button state or the tooltip to indicate this). Even giving new commands to the unit while it is running autoexplore, causes it to fulfil the command you give it and immediately start to autoexplore again, meaning that if you tell it to move into a square, and it still has movement left, it will im

Perhaps this is by design, but I would expect the autoexplore option to send the units onto the various goody huts (treasure, bones, etc.) on the map, like it does in Civ 4 and GalCiv 2. From my tinkering last night, it seemed like the autoexplore explicitly avoided entering these squares, and instead focused only on uncovering the map. I had only tried it with the Sovereign however.

I want to second this, as I was going to make a thread on it myself (beaten!). For usability, I would suggest that these scrolling choice boxes need to at least have drop-downs when there are more than 2-3 choices in the list. While this kind of scrolling solution makes a lot of sense on consoles, I think drop-down menus are more helpful when you have access to a mouse since: A. Having a drop down clearly shows you all the choices that are available, letting you make
