I second that I wasn't able to get roads to build at all.

Lua is a great little language. I worked for a year on a game written mostly in Lua and grew to really love the paradigm of coding in Lua. It's Lua by the way, not LUA. I bring it up because you've spelled it that way before. Lua isn't an acronym, it means "moon" in Portuguese :)
[quote who="SquidLord" comment="74"]Perhaps some Trust Metrics can be used to implement a Karma systemThis metrics, used in Google-rank or in Advogato, try to issue exploits and attacks.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trust_metricThank you, Elnopintan, for stealing the thoughts right out of my mind! But I'll amplify a bit for the sake of the readership. As I see it, what I've been wanting in a game system is not a tool that tells me what the community thinks of someone, but what I'm
Thirded. Small issue but annoying :)
Or my personal favorite, Do you have a vivid imagination? "Oh YES I sure do!" Really? Do you write poetry? "Well no". Stories? Paint? Stained glass? Weekly Comics? Write screen plays? etc...etc.. If your answre is "No but I have really crazy dreams" then the answer is...NO you don't. Most people don't have vivid imaginations IMO
Newest ObjectBar patch off of SDC seems to have fixed the problem for me, whatever you guys did, good job The games I was talking about were full-screen, specifically WoW, Space Rangers (1 or 2), really any game I tried.
Hiya, I updated to the latest version of ObjectBar, and ever since then whenever I run any game, ObjectBar throws an unhandled exception and I get the visual studio debug option popping up. Never had this problem before the OB update. Anyone else have this problem and a solution? Thanks
I agree that the ship should not autorepair in combat, no qualms about that. I'd also support auto-repairs being much much slower in hostile territory than in friendly territory, but I'd still like them to happen there, if slowly, as I discussed in my post.
From another post: I strongly disagree with this, I think the current system is very, very good, if not amazingly realistic. If you want to justify it, say that they salvage scrap after a battle (with nanobots maybe, whatever), or have big slabs of material in storage that they then use (again, by decomposing said slabs with magical nanobots) to repair up any bigger damage. The reason why I think this repair system works well is because I think having to manually repair units is unne
So I just spent a good several hours trying out Beta 2 for the first time. I missed out on Beta 1 so I can't compare it to that, and could only go by my expectations from what I'd read about the game. That said, when I first started out and went through the tutorial I thought I'd be disappointed. The tutorials were quite well done, and the interface and graphics slick and intuitive, but the game felt shallow, kind of like someone else said, like a shallow RTS mixed with a shallow turn-b
Here is my idea for tactical combat. I'll call it GalCiv Fleet Tactics. My idea is to introduce new tactical elements, while keeping complexity for the player to a minimum and keeping GalCiv grounded as a strategy game.... I just wanted to say that RogueIdea's post was totally awesome, and I would soil myself at the oppor
I have a question about the trails that are supposed to... well... trail behind ships in the battle viewer. Ever since the game came out I've had troubles with these showing up and while it should be no big deal... it frankly drives me insane. Something about trails behind ships (homeworld-style) conveys motion so well, and just looks so... cool, that when it doesn't work it instills a great sadness into my heart. Anyway, back when GalCiv II first came out, I think there were just littl
You must be kidding me? You've already made your money off the furst sale of the product, why should Stardock make any more money off a resale? You're not going to have to provide any more support to the person who buys a second hand game other than transferring the serial which costs you nothing. Under your logic, there wouldn't be a second hand car market for instance.</
Yeah, in my game I have four of them, but I'm not complaining really, it can be nice to have a free death force show up, and I am the Universalists, hence luck. Also, I didn't have them all show up in like 10 turns, I had two show up withing about 100 turns of each other, then a long, long break, and then two more within relatively little time. At this point, rather late in the game, I have all four in a fleet (since they're so slow they'd s
Same issue, same hypothesis, though I didn't go through with the trade .
You could just set a rally point. Then they'll autolaunch and go there.
I played the beta and remember how the ship trails used to look and function, and I find that now that I'm playing the full game, the trails are completely missing, except from premade ships (Defender, Scout, etc.) On a few of mu custom ships it seemed like I could maybe make out the very tip of a trail, as though the trail were moved too far inside the hull and therefore almost completely obscured. I do not have the option disabl
The above user is correct. What you circled are stars, you have no idea how many usable planets there are around those stars, and playing on a bigger map you'd still need to explore quite a bit to find which solar systems are any good. On your sample map there are 4 stars so that in and of itself takes some surprise out of it.
Just wanted to add that even before I saw this post, I was thinking of the same thing in my game. In the one I'm currently playing, I was deathly afraid of my neightbors despite having decent units because the charts showed them with huge millitary scores. Likewise, they were haughty and dismissive of me, and a few eventually declared war on me based on these same ratings. I was able to take several on at once and wipe the floor with the, because I had
Unofficial Hotseat? Yes please. Oh gods, yes PLEASE! Please?
Yeah I noticed this back when I first got the beta, and used that logo a few times. I suppose it may be a coincidence... but personally I don't believe it
I too agree with Brad's comments. I play many games online, but certain games just don't have the appeal there, TBS games being at the front. The only form of multiplayer I do wish that Gal Civ II had is Hotseat. It's the only multiplayer I play in turn-based games (with my old buddy/current college roommate) and it can be great fun. I've played hotseat in every Civ game that's supported it, MoO2, HoMM2-4... I love this mode. But playing games like this with some random person off the internet s
You guys should actually read that Courtney Love thing someone posted. I was surprised by how articulate and interesting it is considering the source. I was never very fond of her. And for all the comments of "it's funny how so many people can rationalize theft" from the anti-downloading people, I have to say it's funny how many are willing to accept artists getting raped in favor of black-and-white morality like: Downloading songs is bad. Buying CDs is good. When the
Early on, I have a logistics of say 5. I can put a small ship (attack: 4) and a tiny ship (attack: 2) into a fleet and take out pretty much any single ship on a planet. I could see that except if you do that, neither ship can have any real life support or engines or anything can you? I didn't even bother designing any real ships
I'll add the feature request for options to customize the background. Now there's a worthy solution. Oh great... now we'll see someone with a Girls Gone Wild backdrop
